What Is Speculative Zoology?

what is speculative zoology?

speculative zoology is a broad subject that can mean anything from alien life to alternate/future evolution but lots of other things, in my case its alien life but i have dabbled into future evolution for my own enjoyment, but in the case of this blog its alien life, the only one in this blog right now, dumuno, is super earthlike biology wise, however that is for less scientific reasons since the universe the planets are in has a story to it id hope to tell the world one day, and not getting to far into it dumuno is supposed to be deceptively earth like, im sorry if this wasnt helpful, i do this as a hobby and im not that good at it but its fun for me, theres a subreddit called r/speculativeevolution which could explain it better than me, i hope this helped!

whats an oviparent and graiparent???????

i probably should explain this

the organisms on ngiu◗ and most organisms on dumuno are hermaphroditic, but they have evolved so that only one of the two organisms mating has to lay an egg, this has divided them into two choices when they mate, oviparent, the one who lay the eggs, or graiparent, the one who fertilizes the eggs, not laying the eggs but still passing on your genes is an ideal option for most organisms so on ngiu◗ if they want to mate the ideal choice would be graiparent, so when mating they will use more peaceful display options like the feather ears, or more violent options like the moss dragons, oviparents usually have their title until their offspring are ready to be off on their own while graiparents are only discussed about in the act of mating and if theyre in one of the few species that has monogamy, other than that they mate and they leave

i hope this helps you understand! if youre still confused then keep asking!! if you ask about specific things i could give more specific answers and all

oooo :000 tell us more ab archeina

archeina are the filaments which cover almost every ostomesa, i described them as fur but itd be more accurate to describe them like protofeathers, since they are very diverse between ostomesa, with some having branches in their archeina to absorb sound, others having them as quills similar to telluric porcupines, and so on, unlike fur, pycnofibers, and feathers on earth, the archeina were evolved when every ostomesa was fully aquatic and dependant on the ammonia oceans to survive, and can be found in almost every ostomesa, and the scales on more streamlined aquatic ostomesa are actually similar to the scutes of telluric birds, being supressed archeina, however some oceanic ostomesa [and one fresh ammonia] completely lack archeina being covered in the thick leathery skin all ostomesa have, these ostomesa are very few and far between, being only 3 genera of a very genera rich planet, i hope this helped!!

whats up with the 3 slits and feathers on these things, also whats that opening thing you talked about?

the 3 slits are the way the ostomesa respire, i call them pleural lungs they are a form of lungs that the terrestrial ostomesa derived from aquatic ostomesa gills, they inhale hydrogen and exhale diborane

the feather things are their kalriech, which are how they smell and hear, they smell with small olfactory nerve that extends to the end of every thin filament, the structure as a whole is used to hear, with the filaments being hypersensitive, klariech is closer to the fleshy extensions of telluric frog fish than the fur like filaments that cover the rest of their body called archeina

and the glosspharyncal opening is the closable end of their tongue like proboscis

Gloskavo, More Commonly Called A Horned Vampire, Is A Type Of Seelenlos Called A Synchonakros, The Two

gloskavo, more commonly called a horned vampire, is a type of seelenlos called a synchonakros, the two bones in their middle pair of limbs are fused together, this makes all of their limbs have an equal amount of bones for locomotion which allows them to be faster and take up more medium sized niches, which on the fungal steppe means rather small but bigger than ostoexoapo and nihlimus which are extremely tiny, gloskavo have an odd niche which involves tackling other seelenlos and piercing their skin and then suck out as much blood with their tongue as they can before their prey knocks them off, when this happens they will run off the fungal plate they are on and then use their frontmost limbs to tear off a part of the moss sheet and continue running till they reach another fungal plate, where they will then tear open parts of the moss sheet in search of ostoexoapo and nihlimus, using parts of the blood their body naturally "candies" and drips down their tongue to lure them out, after this happens they will then eat whatever comes out and then whats left of the candied blood and carry on with their day, when they look for a mate they will tear up the ground at the sight of another gloskavo and then screech, this is a signal to the other gloskavo that they wish to mate, they will then circle around each other and whichever one has smaller horns will back down and become the oviparent, though if they are equal or close to equal they will fight, similar to how telluric pecora fight, by attacking with their horns, when one backs down they will become the oviparent and then reproduce, gloskavo eggs are some of the largest on the fungal steppe this also means that they take a long time to hatch, this means that gloskavo cant lay them all at in a day and will dig a hole in the centre of a fungal plate and lay each one every 2-3 days and they will defend their eggs with their life even going so far as to starve themself if there arent any ostoexoapo or nihlimus near the hole, once the gloskavo hatch they will instinctually know how to survive however and be almost entirely mature, if you have any questions regarding these organisms please dont be afraid to ask i am more than willing to answer
