alright so I just finished all six books in the school for good and evil and my brain in buzzing with au's already. like I kind of wish that Morgan le Fay was in there. like it would be hilarious that the sister to the great king Arthur with how he is portrayed in the book has a this crazy prankster of a sister just running around and causing chaos. I know a lot of people see her as a evil sorceress but I like her as a loony tunes like villein or a trickster. witch makes her off screen redemption arc extremally funny. like in the original(not sge) green knight story the entire purpose that he is there is because Morgan thought if the green night got his head cut off Guinevere would see it and just die. like that is so stupid, but I love it!

Wait are they not starting on the choosing day? It seems like everyone is going about their normal lives which is the exact opposite of what happens when the choice night happens. Idk what the proper term is for the kidnapping

Side note I wonder if Sophie is ever gonna read the story book she does in the beginning with the witch who had a bracelet of bones so that the connection between Ansdil and the witch is present (or was it Hester? Sure wasn't Dot)

I love that their first shot together is them separated by a road being jeered at four being weird. I hope it's echoed later in the movie it'd be such a good recurring theme of separation between good and evil and then they kiss and go home to connect them (at least in the book they kiss)

As much as I love it I do miss the idea of Sophie having to drag Agatha out of the house and having the small interaction with Radley that shows she isn't as good as she makes herself out to be

Wait Sophie ignored her mothers grave (book) and now she's reading at it (movie)? Why not just have a funeral scene instead? Though she is a (adorable) child in this scene so maybe it's different now that's she's grown? Or maybe they just nixed that detail?

Also Sophie made friends with Aggie as a good deed now its a genuine friendship? Or was 5-7 year old Sophie already plotting ahead?

I was so excited to see the Schoolmaster chase scene where Agatha jumps through fire to save Sophie but I don't that will happen

And the terrible home life justifies Sophie wanting to leave. Originally it was cause she thought she was better than everyone else but now it's cause she has a bad life. They haven't built up her "good but actually not a good" side at all.

I was so excited but everything's changed and not in a good way. Fucking Wishing Tree. They just did it cause it's easy not cause it's accurate.

I hope the rest of the movie is less... disappointing. It had so much potential just to slap me in the face with its utter ignorance of Canon.

♡♡♡♡♡♡/5 went through some tough spots and I miss the little details but love some of the new additions and overall the movie was amazing surpassed my expectations

A reimagining of how they could have done the Gavaldon scene in the movie

The scene starts with the two girls at the lake. Sophie is packing cucumbers and Agatha is flicking matches into the lake. The sun is setting behind them.

We had the Storian narrating in the beginning and we keep that, "In the village of Gavaldon two girls sat at a lake. One was good and one was evil." But we don't cut to close ups of the girls. Instead we get closer to the back of their heads and at "good" Agatha turns her head to say something we can't hear. Sophie turns and replies at "bad". The camera stills "The Schoolmasters perfect pair" and then we cut to in front of them and key into their conversation.

"Agatha you have to stop worrying."

"How can I when your still obsessed with that silly story about the School for Good and Evil?"

"It's not silly Aggie! Tonight we'll both go to our new schools. I'll meet my prince and you'll..."

"Be a witch." Agatha says spitefully aggressively tossing a match into the lake.

"Make new friends?" Sophie says haltingly.

"This is nonsense. Just don't do anything stupid."

"I won't."

"Promise?" There is a close up on Agatha's pinky. We cut to Sophie's face before back to Agatha' hand.

"Promise." They seal the pinky promise.

We then cut to Sophie going home, her father is already home, nailing something down. "Father must you ruin my window?"

Then they give a bit of exposition about the kidnapping and they talk about Belle (that girl from the beginning of the book who brings her dad lunch and cut her hair off) and the scene ends with Sophie sitting on her bed holding a fairytale frowning as her father nails her door shut, locking her in and hopefully the Schoolmaster out.

We cut to Agatha and her mother with a similar shot of Agatha frowning on her bed holding reaper but the repetitive noise that we hear isn't a hammer it's Callis dancing as she packs singing the SGE song she sang in the book. Agatha insults her, calls it hogwash. Calls admonishes her and then starts wondering about ingredients. Agatha sets Reaper off her lap and pulls her pillow over her head.

Camera moves downward into the darkness of underneath the bed and we see some books under Agathas bed to allude to the fact she reads the stories too. Maybe some more exposition about the bookshop and the connection between the books and the kids but this time narrated by the storian.

Then the camera pans up again and it's night Agatha is tossing and turning in her sleep before she jolts awake. She throws on her coat and the shot changes to her marching towards Sophie's house. Because I mentioned Sophie being shut in, only her window will be open, cause that's the only things she would be able to pull off since the door is boarded from the outside.

Instead of just standing outside the window for a bit the Schoolmaster will be immediately present, zooming past Agatha into Sophie's room and pulling Sophie out the window.

Then we have the chase scene through Gavaldon and Agatha latches onto Sophie's feet, claws her way up Sophie and starts trying to wail on the Schoolmaster to get him to let go. She stops when they lift off the ground so high that as Sophie's father tries to grab her out of the sky he can barely jump high enough to tap the edge of Agatha/Sophie's shoe (whichever is closer to the ground.

Instead of them bouncing up a tree Schoolmaster just drops them in the nest.

End of Gavaldon scene

Edit 1: Added-Maybe some more exposition about the bookshop and the connection between the books and the kids but this time narrated by the storian

THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL IS GREAT BUT SOME CHANGES…. are questionable

The Film is good but there are few major things changed that were kinda challenging:

(🚨SPOILERS🚨 for the Books and Movie)

1. The Rats. WHERE ARE ANADIL’S RATS🐀. The RaTs were her whole spiel, her TALENT, they match her whole aesthetic. They were in the trailer so I was so excited for giant rats to charge through causing chaos in the movie but instead…. Electrokinesis and telekinesis…..they made her into a psychic with electric powers… just WHY, and Electric blue is not EVEN HER FINGERGLOW COLOR, ITS GREEN. Why I will never understand.

2. Why did they cut The Beast scene, The part in the book where Sophie was sent to the Doom Room was because of her own mistake, SHE CAUSED A RIOT. The part where the Beast chopped off her hair and her retaliating by savagely drowning him in cold blood and afterward throwing him into the moat was actually the moment where Sophie has done something truly evil and shows that she truly deserves the title of True Evil. Because Evil Never forgives, only Good. But instead, in the movie Lesso just dragged Sophie off to be punished,……for talking to a boy….

Then the part where she cut her hair off so that she would “know her priorities”, afterwards leaving her only to be surprised when Sophie begins willingly going against her. LIKE THIS TAKES AWAYS SO MUCH FROM THE SCENE. In the Movie, Sophie is presented a unfortunate victim that was being manipulated, rejected and abused by Authority figures in the schools so we actually cheer for her when she takes back her power and thrives, when we supposed to be upset that she is actually Evil. The whole point of The Beast being the one killed was to show in a room with Sophie and a monster, Sophie is the most dangerous with the added angst in that, the creatures such as the fairies,wish fish ,manwolves,stymphs, including the Beast were actually former students that failed and The Beast was a former Ever student that failed to be Good and so was forced to slave for the School for Evil for eternity Also, Lesso punishing Sophie because she got Rafal’s attention instead of her just comes across as petty and spiteful instead of actually evil I’m sorry 😂

Changes I actually like in the movie:

1.) Gregor. Just sweet silly Gregor who just wants to run a grocery store. HE DESERVES BETTER. But honestly, changing the Gargoyle to Gregor was actually a good decision, because it shows and we see Agatha’s connection and empathy to him all the more real and understandable thus making his unjustified punishment and death all the more personal, showing how shallow the the school has truly become in judging someone to be “Good”. Also, this actually gives a good reason to punch Tedros in the face(Goodness knows that Agatha deserves to do that after everything).

2.) The Wish fish scene was changed a bit and some develovement was taken away but I still LOVED it because it had Heart. It still showed Agatha’s indecisiveness but still showed Agatha’s empathy .

3.) Rafal actually manipulating the fairytales by having Good be rewarded for doing Evil deeds, is just so in character, so sinister and just make everything so much sense from the books and the original source fairytales. It’s just immaculately Evil and I love it✨💖

4.) The actors and visuals. It’s stunning and the actors did great performances. The script though just ok

Petty things that made me upset:

The lack of food. There was so many mouthwatering foods with detailed delicious descriptions in the books, so I hoped there was good foods, but sadly 😔😞

Honestly reading the books before the movie is a curse sometimes.
