Botanical Sexism Cultivates Home-Grown Allergies

Arborists often claim that all-male plants are “litter-free” because they shed no messy seeds, fruits or pods. In the 1949 USDA Yearbook of Agriculture, which focused on trees and forests, this advice was given to readers: “When used for street plantings, only male trees should be selected, to avoid the nuisance from the seed.”  In the years following, the USDA produced and released into the market almost 100 new red maple and hybrid-maple-named clones (cultivars), and every single one of them was male.

It took a number of years for these new trees to mature enough to start to bloom, but eventually they did and with them came more city pollen and the “epidemic of allergy and asthma.” Many of these same trees are still alive and well and getting even larger, and the bigger they get, the more pollen they shed.

Allergies are rarely triggered by small amounts of an allergen; they are initiated by an overdose. Small amounts of pollen exposure are actually good for us, but if we have highly allergenic trees or shrubs in our own yards or lining our streets, we will soon enough be over-exposed. In order to put the brakes on America’s allergy epidemic, we need to reverse the trend toward male-dominated landscapes and stop selling and planting any more of the most allergenic trees, shrubs and grasses in our cities.

and the kicker:

Female trees produce no pollen, but they trap and remove large amounts of pollen from the air, and turn it into seed. Female trees (and female shrubs also) are not just passive, but are active allergy-fighting trees. The more female plants in a landscape, the less pollen there will be in the air in the immediate vicinity. By relying less on males and paying more attention to the allergy-potential of all the plants in our urban landscape, all of us may one day breathe easier.

So I want to talk about this! Two things, I am not afraid to ask about making adjustments for my Gluten Allergy so story time! I have a local diner that my dad loves, I'm like meh because It's near impossible for me to get any meal I enjoy Gluten Free, but they start making Gluten Free pancakes. I was all over that but the first thing I asked was whats in your gluten free baking mix and this lady brings me the thrice damned bag to go over it! Like Idk why but i really appreciated it.

Second Story Time! My mom has a serious allergy to a spice found in most bar-b-que, cajun dishes, and curry. So she avoids that type of food like the plague, but heres the thing she has had so many people give her her food with it because people don't believe her. She's started telling them "If this has [Redacted] I am going to pull my pants down and make YOU administer my epi-pen." She has to. Airplane attendants and waiters, she says if you're going to poison me you have to deal with the consequences.

DO NOT DO THIS.

DO NOT DO THIS.

This makes me so angry.

If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.

My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.

When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.

If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.

Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.

Please signal boost this so people know.

Hey guys, welcome back for the second time! Yesterday I found out that I’m allergic to penicillin, which also happened to be in the antibiotics I was taking.

I was taking the antibiotics for a tooth infection and it worked. But the thing is that it lowers your immune system. When I was almost done the bottle, I started getting hives.

So my mom started to make me take Benadryl. It is helping, but she chose the ones that make you drowsy and tired. So I have my immune system lowered, hives (that are going away), and I’m constantly tired.

Welp that’s all I have to report, see ya!

Hey, welcome back guys.

This morning I had rashes on my ears and muscles were starting to ache. My hives have still not gone away. My Mom decided to take me into the clinic. I have Serum disease/sickness. My body has now started to attack my muscles.

So, my muscles hurt, I’m tired and I’m itchy.

This is all I have to report for today. See ya!

(Real pen the last picture)

It is important for EVERYONE to know how to help ANYONE. Not everyone can give them selves their medicine under every circumstance. Be educated, help out.

In the last year, i have gotten about five new violent allergies from foods i used to be able to eat. Next time i eat a fruit, my throat could close. I may not be able to inject myself. My boyfriend and i played with my trainer pen for like 30 minutes. He knows how to inject it. I know how. This is important.

My Little Bro Has A Weird Conditions Every Time He Feels Freighting Or Anxious His Body Automatically

My little bro has a weird conditions every time he feels freighting or anxious his body automatically grows in size think of it as a defense mechanism like when your body gets fill of testosterone and you get  bit stronger but this goes to override and transform him from a regulae skinny kid to a massive beast of pure musce. Usually is not s big deal but there.aresome situations that can get a bit annoying for example last week i was planning to go to the cinema to see a horror film i was waiting for moths however that same.nigth our babysitter cancel.on us and our mom made me take my little bro with me.

In the movie after the first jump scare happen my brother scream and after that i could hear his clothes start to stretch  i feel my whole body start to get pushed to the side as his body grew and occupy more space  his small arms became massive biceps his chest  grew huge and got cover in a thick layer of hair. so i ended up there squished between my seat and my brother growing muscle , every time he got scare i would get squeezed even more by his massive arms as it continue to grow to the rest of the movie. At the end of the movie he was still sacred visible shaking his 300 lbs of beef in fear “ That was a very scary movie right bro” said my hulking beast of a little brother , “sure it was”i said as we make our way home i just hope  he shrinks back by the time we return i dont want ti have to share my him with massive muscle beast  because he is too scared to sleep alone

I always love seeing him in our garden surrounded by flowers. Him picking some and smelling it deep and sneezing loudly multiple times from allergies.

Why do this? 1) He has a rare condition where he grows along with his allergic. reaction and 2) He always does this when he has something in mind. (How long will depend how naught he'll be)

Even when his allergies will be controlled by medicine afterwards. His size will stay for some time. The longest timed was two days but during that time he was really massive. Maybe we can do that again but somewhere remote and try something further with his condition.

As far as I know, I'm not allergic to wasps or bees though I am panic-attack-inducingly afraid of them

But I know that THE DAY I'm no longer afraid to be near them, a wasp is going to be a jackass (as they are) and is going to sting me and that will be the day we find out I'm allergic

allergic reaction prompts

1. “Does this have (allergy) in it? I’m super allergic to (allergy.)”

2. “It’s getting hard to breathe.”

3. “What do you mean you don’t have an epi-pen on you?!”

4. Is it better to sit down or lie down?”

5. “Okay, just try to breathe, the ambulance is on its way.”

6. “Don’t just stand there, call 9-1-1 you idiot!”

7. “Are you sure there’s (allergy) in this? I feel fine...”

8. “Did he just pass out?! Is he breathing!?”

9. “He’s gonna be pissed when he wakes up in the hospital.”

10. “I have an epi-pen in here somewhere, I know I brought it...”

11. “Take off your shirt, I need to see if there are hives on your back and chest.”

12. “Is that a rash? What did you eat?”

13. “My mouth feels kinda weird. Like, furry. And my tongue is too big.”

14. “Oh god, I think i’m gonna throw up—“

15. “Have you ever been stung by a bee before?”

16. “Is anyone else really really itchy all of a sudden?”

17. “You have to lay down, it’ll help you breathe better.”

18. “Woah, the hives are all over your back now.”

19. “I barely know him. How was I supposed to know he was allergic to Penicillin.”

20. “I’ve never had (allergy) before. Honestly it might be my new favorite thing.”
