they’re all too young for this business, they know it, the world knows it. but they don’t acknowledge it, nobody ever fucking acknowledges it, because they’re savng the world, they seem fine, it doesn’t matter that they’re teenagers, that they should be learning and growing instead of fighting and killing.

(nobody knows how damaged they are, the little ways they’ve all slowly cracked and then shattered, how little hope they have for the future-not even their boss, the man who decided to recruit some kids for an eternal war, because they’re strong enough, right?)

once, a senator speaks out about it, uses natasha as an example, talks about how she’s fifteen and a killing machine who can take down governments. it’s a good point, and, god, the kids wished people had listened, but it does nothing.

(clint doesn’t talk about how he heard natasha crying later that night. it’s a pact they’ve all made, it seems. ‘i won’t make you talk about it if you won’t make me talk about it.’ it’s not safe, but it’s how they function.)

bruce loses control one day in the middle of a meeting, tears through half the pentagon and disappears for a week. the news doesn’t cover it, not in depth. can’t let people think their heroes are dangerous to them, or dangerous to themselves, after all.

(tony and thor are the ones who find him, collapsed behind a gas station, shaking and heaving with sobs and sickness, too young and too hurt and too scared.)

a few small countries in the un try to pass an accord saying children working as superheroes shouldn’t be allowed, that it’s immoral and completely unsafe. it fails.

(steve won’t admit it, but he lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding when they get the news that the accord was rejected. he knows it should have been passed, but he doesn’t know what he would have done if it had. he doesn’t know how to live without fighting like this. none of them do.)

Bruce Week Day 4-Child/Injury

Whoops didn’t realize there were themes for these days. I always thought it was cool that the Hulk comics always depicted Brian Banner as a monster in Bruce’s imagination. That being said, it was always sorta a lizard demon thing so I tried to make it more of a Silent Hill styled “meant to represent this and that” sort of thing instead. If I had more time I would’ve tried to make something more thought-through.

What follows is my ramblings about how I designed them (I’m up to chapter 28 for context of how much info I have at this stage):

So these two presented such a fun and interesting design challenge. Given Effie was born in 1893 and they sound 30s-ish (give or take a few years) I decided to use 1920-30 time period to ground their attire. I consider them to be a bit more rural than straight up city folk and their clothes reflect that. Effie and Zebulon are what I would call progressive for their time so when they’re kicking it at home I imagine Effie wears Zebs shirt and belt to keep her clothes out of her way while fiddling with radio equipment and to attach her exterior pockets and nicknacks to. I also went back and forth on Effie’s hair forever. Technically hairstyles of time are very much big and up or tight and back/ styled to look short but it was just very very hard for me to see Effie in that restricted way. She’s such an interesting mix of practical and progressive that i gave myself yet a free pass and say around home she could do a half up half down. Zebulon on the other hand is much closer to the regular though attractive fashion of the time.

Can’t wait to do the radio version of these two now ✨

A/N: found this little piece i wrote ages ago about carver and my grey warden oc august’s first meeting. entirely without context for the reader, rip, but mayhaps i will write more about them to make that context!!!

He says his name is Auguste.

Carver hates the e at the end. It’s too orlesian and feels funny in his mouth.

“So August,” he says with a frown.

The other man frowns right back. “No, it’s–”

“August,” he insists, and August crosses his arms against his chest, glaring up at him with something hot in his gaze.

He’s a little over head shorter than Carver, skin pearl white and body clearly malnourished under his armor. He looks like he’s barely able to stand without assistance, to be honest. The tips of his ears are faintly sharp, but otherwise he looks entirely human. Mixed heritage, then, Carver guesses.

His round eyes are a little bloodshot but still clearly storm grey and unflinching as they stare straight into Carver’s own. His mousy brown, still blood caked hair is a mess.

He can’t be any older than Carver himself.

August doesn’t say anything in a while, just looks at Carver in a way that makes him feel flushed with annoyance. Or something.

“Carver Hawke,” August says slowly. He didn’t have that thick of an orlesian accent two minutes ago, when they were introduced. “A very Fereldan name.”
