I don't get why everyone is pissed at a certain translator right now just for being vague about the definition of a word (maybe she just didn't want to get squashed by hardcore fans?). I feel like people are so entitled nowadays. This person is translating this stuff for FREE in her spare time. Does anyone still remember how hard it was to find translations of magazines or articles 20 years ago? And now people are hating on someone who's helping the fandom out by supplying them with new content.

When she took up this mantle of being a translator, she in that moment took it upon herself to be someone unbiased and someone who would be honest and keep her translations honest, to the point, and without any bias/lies from anything.

She disregarded that integrity, the trust some people had in her, and disrespected the language, the people of that language, and the people who follow her.

Hogosha has always meant legal guardian. Everyone, every single person that has looked it up and every single Japanese individual in this fandom has said the same thing time and time again. And then she chooses to shit on that by trying to be like “well, but actually…”

No. No, you don’t get to do that. Not only for the fact that she’s going back on her word of what she said in the past. She’s going back on that very language just because she wants to act like it’s some type of grey area when it’s literally as black and white a word as they come.

Honestly it’s a “good” thing that hogosha holds true EVEN for Yashahime “canon”. Pedomaru was Rin’s hogosha and he STILL groomed and used her. - I have never said all translators from Spain were bad. I said Spain was responsible for some of the bad translators.

- I have never insulted Ayuuria. I said her translations were usually fine.

- I said hogosha means parent because that's what Japanese dictionaries say and that's how it is used in schools and in daily life. Hogosha is used in place of mother or father because not all children are cared for by their biological parents. In the words of my coworker, "the reason we use hogosha is to respect students who don't have parents."

- I have never tried to argue that the word hogosha makes SessRin any less canon in Yashahime. Takahashi and Narita were giving their opinions of how they viewed the characters' relationship, but neither is a writer on Yashahime. I am not trying to deny Yashahime canon.

I don't know why this is all going on when I pretty much stick to my own little corner of the fandom and don't go out of my way to start fights with people, but oh well. As always, I just want people to argue with the most accurate information.
