Yashahime: Princess Half Demon - Tumblr Posts

She’s so cute.
High quality picture on my ko-fi shop (commissions are open)
I FEEL THE SAME.
We better get a proper full family hug in the next episode of season!
But at least jaken interpreted sesshomaru’s feelings for everyone and said that this was the happiest he has seen sesshomaru (it wouldn’t have hurt him to actually make a small smile, though I’m overall happy about the whole situation, it was sweet and heartwarming)!
They promised to hug as a family, and you're telling me this show couldn't show Sesshomaru joining in on the hug?
Not gonna lie, i wish Rin’s reunion with the twins was made a bit more emotional with more build up 🥺 i wanted all the feels 😔

That makes some sense; I had the same question.
And why did his daughters’ hearts need to be saved? Was the whole thing a set up? What does any of it even mean?
Noooooooooo now that he confessed his loved her
Riku died
I'm sad 😭😭😭
They must make another season and bring him back so he and Towa can be together

I only recently got into the show and I haven’t watched all of it consistently besides for the most part of season 2 and someone on YouTube who reviews the episodes. Right now I really like the show and I am hoping for a 3rd season.
I mostly agree with you, but one of the points I don’t feel as strongly about as you do is the last sentence. I felt the show would have been so much better if it wasn’t rushed, because as good as I feel it is now, if it wasn’t as rushed as it felt it was and if some concepts had been better thought out/executed, it would have been more well done.
Yashahime isn’t as bad as I believe you may feel about it, or as some other people feel. In fact in my opinion it’s one of the better shows out there.
You can see how with what they put into the show that they have everything the need to better execute a really good show. Great characters, their dynamics and relationships with others, an interesting premise and story, etc.
But yes like I said I do agree with you on the majority of questions you have.
I know there is one more episode, so maybe all will be explained in 20-23 minutes, but we still have to make time for Moe and Mei to be adorable and for Takechiyo and Shippo to have some wacky hijinks...so you know, my hopes are not high...
BUT...
What in actual hell is the grim comet? An egg for a space butterfly...that has a library inside?
Why did Osamu Kirin go all Eyes of TJ Eckleburg at the end? Were the glasses magic? Did the butterfly give him magic glasses? Did the magic glasses make him evil? If Towa had just gone into the locker room after classes, gone into his locker and smashed his glasses Beastie Boys style, would this have all been avoided?
Why did Kirinmaru and Rion make a sword when they died? Why did that sword have a Star Trek transporter that brings people back to life? Tenseiga ain't so special now, I guess?
Speaking of which, Setsuna's special power isn't so special if everyone can do it, I guess?
What connection does Treekyo have with the butterfly? Were Setsuna and Rin somehow under the butterfly's control? Does that mean anything?
Is a butterfly ever a proper villain (the answer is no...no need to wait for the final episode for that).
I had a thought when I still had hope that this mess might have had an actual logical plot that maybe the reason Rin could not touch her daughters is that there was a kind of spell...the mother's touch would dispel the illusion which was put in place to train the girls...or something. But no, it was just because there was a big bad butterfly and Rin (impulsive, loving Rin) just did not touch her daughters...because...
I wasn't expecting much, but this turned out so much worse than I could have imagined.
Agreed
I just watched episode 48 and it's made me rethink some of my criticism of the show. I still would have liked to see Rin and Sesshomaru's love story. But I at least got to see some meaningful interactions between Rin and her daughters. And I love the fact that she made the kimono's herself.
Plus wasn’t sesshomaru also preoccupied with making sure their mother doesn’t die?
antis: sesshomaru is a deadbeat father, he abandoned his children, sunrise made him a very bad father, any father out there wouldn't do--
few words from our lovely baby girl:

Agreed
Now I’ll admit I’m biased bc I’ve been writing and RPing Towa Higurashi for well over a year now and that’s just how I interpreted her feelings but
I’m really glad that while Yashahime makes it clear that despite the fact he’s emotionally constipated and extremely stoic and doesn't’ really make facial expressions beyond amused or annoyed that he does genuinely love his daughters and wife to death, but also that Towa has well deserved resentment for how he went about things.
I get why he did the things he did. I know he gets a lot of flak for it but I get it from a fictional character perspective, and how different he is from both Inuyasha and Souta in personality. But just because he felt he acted in Towa’s and Setsuna’s best interest does not necessarily mean that was the right way to do things- and I am not here to debate if it was “right” or “wrong,” but the fact is Towa and Setsuna went through a lot without their father being there.
I’m not here to start debating if he was right or wrong even though I have my own personal feelings- but even the great Lord Sesshomaru is not infallible, and while I wish they had talked about this a bit more throughout the show, even though both Towa and Setsuna seem to love and care for their father now at the end of everything that doesn’t change they have a right to question how their father went about things and whether or not it was for the better or not. One of the wishes I would have for any kind of continuation would be to address this even more, I would genuinely love it if Towa and Setsuna could have a sincere talk with their father about what they felt were misgivings in how he went about their upbringing.
I love the man but- they’re teenage girls who went through so much shit with really very few allies beyond their cousin who could consistently help them. They have a right to be bitter about it! Just because they love their father doesn’t mean they have to believe h did everything right, and in turn Sesshomaru isn’t off the hook inherently just because he goes about things a specific way to ensure they’d be strong and independent. I would not be surprised if Toga and Inukimi raised him that way, but that doesn’t mean that is what was right for his own kids.
It was just a really interesting thing I didn’t expect to get brought up in the finale! It made me as a Towa writer really happy. I really hope if there’s a continuation in any capacity they can finally fucking talk about these things. Towa and Setsuna deserve to be able to speak to their father about their frustrations with him, and as their father who loves them he should listen to those frustrations and address them.
For the most part I agree but I feel this is the beginning of something new where al, the characters can learn something and improve on the kind of person they were, my thoughts pretty much summed up in this post.
Not Gonna Lie, even though the conflict resolution wasn't my favorite, this episode was really sweet. I just loved how they went about things.
I know some people have been disappointed in how Towa and Setsuna question Sesshoumaru's intentions, but to me it was perfect. They SHOULD question him! Its their right, heck its literally their birthright to know! It would have been strange if they just accepted everything. We the audience know Sesshoumaru had his hands tied and was working for Kirinmaru and Zero while trying to keep his family alive, but the girls don't really get it. And that's fine. As long as they're together now, they can begin to work on that relationship.
And honestly, like a lot of people have said, Sesshoumaru is Sesshoumaru. He isn't human, he doesn't feel or care the way a lot of demons do. He really does live on another plane of existence, and its only been extremely recently that he's become more emotional and has bonded with people. Rin is literally the first person he really gave a shit about, and now its his daughters. Like, it makes sense to me. Even though I complained that they should have shown him hugging his family -- I get it. Sesshoumaru gets a huge has prize for putting up with ridiculous odds for the past 14 years, but now, he has to start doing Normal Dad Stuff, and its going to be tough. At the end of the day though, its all going to be Daijoubu.
I loved the twins conversation with Rin. It was so pure and adorable. I loved how Rin made the decision to give them the kimonos and you could hear the excitment in her voice that she couldn't wait to see them wear it! I like that the twins knew immediately that it was expensive. Also, I love how Rin told them she experienced death. In a way, Tenseiga helped form this family, since they all share a bond with it.
Re: shipping and stuff: I really like Riku and Towa's reunion! I do think I would have preferred if he stayed dead, I feel like it would have been more realistic, but I enjoyed how Towa scared Riku shitless. LOL.
With Hisui and Setsuna, I could take it or leave it, but I appreciate the open endedness of it. I'm glad in general they didn't try to shove in the romance and let Yashahime be more about family and sisterhood. Also I enjoy men being the ones fawning over their love interests!!
Overall, a very cute and adorable finale. I'm gonna miss this show!!
*Sesshomaru and Setsuna genuinely love the new baby with all their hearts like for the rest of the kids in the Sessrin family but they are too stoic to fully express the extent of their emotions, sesshomaru much more than setsuna*
*setsuna is much more expressive with her happiness than sesshomaru is*
*everyone can tell how happy everyone sesshomaru and everyone else is now that there is a new baby in the family and no immediate threat at his life*
Consider:
-Sesshomaru and Setsuna are waging a war for Rin’s attention/affection
-Rin has another baby
-Baby starts occupying all of Rin’s attention
-Sesshomaru and Setsuna call a temporary truce because the baby is now their mutual enemy
The first of many sad ramblings about Yashahime...
Lets call this post: They Did Rin Real Dirty...
In the original, Rin never had much screen/page time, but when she appeared, she made a big impression -- she was brave, polite, loyal, funny, sassy, fearless when it came to defending those she loved. Jinenji compared her to Kagome, feeling that she had the same kind of loving and bright soul. She also had a lot of trauma which was acknowledged and shown to still trouble her, though she tried to overcome it by talking and focusing on bright, silly chatter. She also sang to comfort herself when she was away from Sesshomaru and Jaken. Her fear over losing Sesshomaru and Jaken was an important part of her personality, and though it was not said explicitly, living with Kaede was an important step for her to cope with her trauma over losing people she loved. Small though her role may be, she was a big personality, and she was of the utmost importance to Sesshomaru's character arc.
I was not at all surprised that Rin was the mother of Sesshomaru's children. I don't think you were ever supposed to think of Rin and Sesshomaru as "romantic" in the original, but you could not deny that they had a very deep platonic love for each other. At the end, when Rin is left behind in the village to grow up, it seemed a pretty clear signal that the option for them to get together later was on the table. Separating them allowed her to grow up, sort out her trauma, and have a real choice when it came to following him again (in whatever form that might take). There was also the Assate CD, which call it non-canon, satire, or whatever, it showed us fairly explicitly the romantic possibility between the two.
I'm not going to defend the morality of Rin as Sesshomaru's wife. Other people have done it better. I had no problem whatsoever with Rin as his wife, but the way Sunrise portrayed their relationship gave a lot of ammunition to people who did not want to see Rin as the mother of the twins.
First of all, from the very beginning, the powers that be chose to play coy with who the mother was. Anyone who had seen the original and understood that Kagura, being dead and a demon, was not able to give birth to hanyou for the sequel could figure out there were not a lot of options for the mom. It was not hard to figure out, but they made the audience wait until January 2021, almost a year past the first announcement, before they confirmed. They hinted -- Narita and Noto hosting the event revealing the girls design, Rin in the tree, some subtle hints with the twins characters, but over all, they left everyone hanging, and the resolution wasn't worth it. Those of us who knew were just tired by that point. Those who did not want to believe Rin was the mother were disappointed.
I don't blame the people who wanted to see Kagura return for being disappointed. For all that I was convinced that it was Rin, I saw where the Kagura fans were having their chains yanked. For example, why give Towa red/pink eyes when Rumiko had designed her to have gold? Towa's ponytail when she was a little girl looked exactly like Kagura's ponytail. In the first episode, Towa was wearing a robe with the same motif as the infant's clothing. Interesting choice by the animators! Finally, Towa's romance with Riku, an incarnation of Kirinmaru, certainly has something of the same flavor of Kagura and Sesshomaru's relationship. Like father, like daughter?
In addition, like many of the Kagura fans, I was fairly convinced that what we were seeing on screen was some kind of illusion, that at some point, the girls were going to wake up and find out they were in some kind of elaborate training sequence. There were so many odd discrepancies, so many quite frankly cruel choices made for the characters and the narrative, I, like many others thought there must be some kind of reset in the works. Surely, they would not leave our beloved characters in such a narrative mess?
But they did, and I think Rin suffered probably worst of all. Rin had the potential to be fleshed out beautifully. Her backstory, her travels with Sesshomaru, the bond they already shared...there was so much that they could build on to show us what kind of woman she became, worthy to be the wife of the greatest of all yokai.
Instead, they locked Rin silent and weeping in a tree for 3/4 of the entire series. We never saw her truly shine except for a few, very few seconds where she stood up to Zero and Kirinmaru. She barely spoke except to call out names: Sesshomaru-sama! Jaken-sama. Towa! Setsuna. Moe got more dialogue with the girls than Rin did (more on that later).
Also, this may not be a popular opinion, but they did her SO dirty with her character design. It's not about her being short...though she is REALLY short. It's the fact that except in a few scenes, she is made to look like a child. I don't think she's a child. I don't think Sesshomaru groomed anyone. However, I do think that Rin's character design is at best, unfortunate. At worst, it's deliberately malicious to spur controversy. Given that we know the animators CAN draw her beautifully, why show her on the official pages looking like that? Why did all the marketing show her as a child? Why did they keep her in the purple robe she wore as a young girl when we were SHOWN that she was given new ones? We know they were paying attention to the fans, in part because of that ridiculously weird non-sequitur Jaken dropped about "Rin being about 18-years-old at that time..." Get out of here with that. They knew what they were doing. They were stirring the pot to get a reaction rather than, you know, just telling a good story.
Also, they took away everything about Rin that made her so wonderful. Rin was one of the liveliest, chattiest characters when on screen, but they put her in a coma for almost the entire series.
Rin wore beautiful kimonos, gifts from her lord and her eventual husband. He showed his love and affection, honoring her with rich and beautiful clothing. They showed her in her underwear for the entire series, and when she finally got dressed, it was in the old kimono she wore when she was a kid.
Rin loved to sing. Music was her thing, at least in the anime and in the funny extras that were recorded to go along with the movies. Her song for Sesshomaru was sweet and wistful. She sang funny songs with Jaken. There is even a little subplot in one of the extras (yes, I know, not canon), where she says she wants to sing for Sesshomaru because she finally has her voice back because of him. Setsuna's lullaby is supposedly from Rin. Setsuna remembers it from the womb (how fucking stupid was that...you could not have let Rin actually sing to her babies...I'm so bitter). We get mere seconds of Rin going "da-da-da" to the melody. RIN! The SINGER. Does not even get to sing to her babies the lullaby she created. Towa gets to talk about how Moe comforted her with music after she fought, and Setsuna learns music from Moe, Towa's adoptive mother. Setsuna plays the lullaby with Moe, and yes, she plays it FOR Rin, how much more moving with it have been to have Rin sing to her or with her? Instead, we get Setsuna watching 'Moe-Sensei" with stars in her eyes thinking how amazing she is. And at the very end of the series, MOE plays RIN's lullaby while thinking of the girls. Rin NEVER has a moment with both girls and the lullaby. That's just cruel, and I swear to God, it seems like it's mean on purpose.
Speaking of being mean, the worst of all is that the writers chose to take Rin, a character who watched her entire family get murdered, who died twice, who had to restart her life with Kaede, a girl who had been rendered mute by trauma, and give her even more hell.
They took away Rin's voice. Again. They took away her family, her children. Again. They gave both Rin's music and her children to Moe, a new character that I cannot imagine anyone cares about. It wasn't an illusion. Time was not turned back. They took everything from Rin again, and then showed that she is happy and smiling, trotting off after her lord while the children she birthed but will never raise go flying off in the sky on their stolen -- ahem, "borrowed-- ride. The original honored Rin's tragedy, showing her pain and methods of coping. Yashahime added to the pain and dared to show her unaffected by it.
I hated what they did to Rin. While I love the idea that Sesshomaru and Rin married and had children. I cannot get over what they did to Rin's character and story.

I missed drawing Sesshomaru.
Are you kidding me?? Yall taking it this far!
Just disgusting.
TW: RAPE, SUICIDE, VIOLENCE MENTION
I've honestly fucking had enough. I'm going to tag this with sessrin because I need all y'all to see this. This is the shit you stand for, yes?

@pinkweirdsunsets has done nothing to deserve this disgusting hate. All they've done is point out the inherit creepiness/problematic features of the sessrin ship.
I've fucking had enough of people calling this is a ship war.
There is no ship war.
I've fucking had enough of sesskagu shippers being called the ones that threaten and attack and harass. We are not attacking anybody. We stay in our tag and discuss there and in private. Have any of y'all ever once taken a look at the disgusting shit certain sessrin shippers spew on Twitter? @madamephantom can tell you a great story about that. Have you ever scrolled through the inuyasha tag and noticed that the hateful anons people are getting are exclusively coming from people who ship sessrin? Have you seen a sesskagu hate anon that is anywhere near as hateful and violent as the one above?
And I'm not only directing this at the sessrin shippers, but all the "neutrals" as well. You can call yourself that if you like, I don't mind that. Yet I'm almost 100% sure that some of you neutrals are sessrin shippers that are afraid to say it because you know the negative connotations that come with the term. Now I'm asking you, where the hell do you think those negative connotations come from, huh?? Shit like that screenshot above, maybe?! And if you're one of the "just let them ship what they want, don't attack them for a ship" people, then I want you to think real hard about who it is you're defending.
I've fucking had enough of sesskagu shippers being called the ones that start shit. It is not fucking us.
The saddest thing of all is that you're all adults. You're embarrassing yourselves with the way you act. Get a fucking grip.
My asks are gonna be off. If you wanna come in here to defend yourselves then do it with your names out there instead of hiding behind hate anons, you fucking cowards.
About the Mash-Up frame...
I wanted to share with y’all something interesting I had observed–beware, I say observation, a lot. I do not know if anyone else had noticed this in that short clip the screenshots below were taken from, but I found something interesting.
Sorry again for making another long post, but I hope y’all find it interesting.
To begin, I’m an art major, a painter, and I am currently earning my BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts). It is a requirement for art majors to use symbolism in our artworks, critique, and observe and discuss what exactly the work of art is conveying in peer works and in art history. I am going to use my skills to help explain why exactly these images are not worth panicking over.
Nothing of what I say is correct or incorrect. This is subjective observation provided with personal experience and basic knowledge of some programs.
Of course, since this is a subjective observation, I will be seeing it from a biased lense sense I’m an anti, after all. Agree or disagree, this is my observation and please do respect that.
The purpose of this post is to explain, as an artist/critic that is observing another’s work, why I believe this is a baited clip.
Notice how Sesshomaru and Rin are not equal in the frame.

Then compare it to how InuYasha and Kagome are equal in their frame.

Then the next frame shows Moroha, their daughter.

Quick note, notice how Moroha is shown to look aggressive. Which, we do know her youkai aggression is inherited from her father. Also, noticed that same odd editing that’s done over her face, it is similar to the first frame. The blurriness tells me that we could possibly find out a mystery that involves her, or the clip is that pixelated…However, the latter does not look to be that way in other parts of her frame, and in her parents frame.
Sesshomaru is super imposed to show us he is “looking down” at his daughters, Rin, and the twins. This shot does not scream Rin is mother to me due to how she is so little compared to Sesshomaru. This does not translates to equal dynamic.
Comparing it to the other two screenshots, we see Kagome and InuYasha existing equally in a frame. This symbolizes their equal dynamic. We do know they are parents, and parents are equals to one another. Additionally, they’re facing one another. Even if they’re not looking at one another, they are still facing each other. If y’all were an artist, and want to create an illustration of parents (headcanon, your parents, canon relationships, etc.) you’d have them facing one another.
In printmaking, if you have two different prints but on the same substrate (paper), for example), then you’d have the subject matter facing one another. This works in other forms of art. Asymmetry implies the break in the balance.
This is where the frame with Sesshomaru and the girls contradict that balance. Rin is not sharing equal amount of space within the frame with Sesshomaru. She is instead looking at the twins, though her frame is obviously bigger than the babies, but her size is smaller than Sesshomaru’s. I also believe she is being compared to the babies to also imply she is in a fragile state. What happened? That’s a mystery until episode 15 (if it explains anything).
Also, please take notice the frame with Sesshomaru, Rin, and the babies look blurry compared to the two other screenshots. Do not know if it is the quality of the video, but that’s odd to me. I’ll explain why later.
So to step back from Kagome, InuYasha, I will be explaining why Rin is not the mother.
Okay. Say it again for the ones not getting it!
For shippers who say that sessrin is historically accurate so it's fine:
A. Inuyasha and hny have never pretended to be historically accurate. Let's just put that out in the air.
B. It's not historically accurate. In the feudal era, child marriages were generally politically motivated arrangements between powerful families. The problem with comparing this to sessrin is that Rin doesn't have a family. They're long dead. Sesshoumaru doesn't need an arranged marriage besides the fact, because there's no powerful family he needs to ally with, and he probably wouldn't be interested in that regardless.
Call the ship what it is, stop making excuses.

An idea of a re-imagined Yashahime: Instead of being daughters of Sesshomaru, Towa and Setsuna are daughters of a female demon who had a history with the tree of ages which was an important element in Inuyasha, and as they venture to learn their origins together with the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the legend behind the tree of ages is revealed. The mother of the twins was a good-hearted demon who fought Kirinmaru who had a vile ambition and defeated him although he swore to return in 500 years. She met a human male and while she was pregnant which left her a bit weakened, Zero took the chance to attempt killing her by first killing her husband to render her so angry that she doesn't think carefully and mortally wounds her although she managed to drive Zero away. She was ready to die and join her lover but eventually struggled to stay alive at least until her daughters were born, and she died after giving birth to them. Someone placed her daughters in the tree of ages where they slept and didn't age only to reemerge around 500 years later to defeat Kirinmaru again (they however were released 15 years earlier so they'd be old enough to accomplish their duty). Either the origin of the tree of ages is revealed while their mother was alive, or the way the twins were placed in the tree explains its abilities (Inuyasha having not aged while being sealed, and the bone-eater well made from wood of the tree connecting to 500 years later). As for Inuyasha and Kagome's absence and their daughter Moroha being alone, Inuyasha’s gang, as well as Sesshomaru and Koga could have been away due to a situation elsewhere, and Inuyasha and Kagome return at the end.
Boring and bad. Probably some of the worst things a supposed piece of entertainment can be.
Kicking off Yashahime dis-appreciation day with ANOTHER bad review from an anime critic about this dumpster of a sequel:

For anyone following the Yashahime tag today, @chaos-in-the-making has been harassing, and posting unwanted pornographic material to other user’s posts with stolen, uncredited artwork. And promises to continue to do so to anyone who doesn’t post only positive things in the tag.
So imma fuck shit up today. If you don’t like negative takes about Yashahime, don’t be like @Chaos-in-the-making and instead curate your own experience by blocking me please and thank you.
