Imagine Regulus was diagnosed as a kid with autism and he understands neurodivergency very well. Imagine James trying to figure out what is wrong with him for years. And imagine Regulus helping him realise he has ADHD and get diagnosis and ADHD pills after they get together. Now James is not only happy because he is in love but also because he doesn't feel broken anymore.
I see so much autistic Regulus in ffs but it's always used as a quirky character trait and never really as a disorder with actual consequences. Yes to stimming, but also yes to meltdowns. Yes to apathy, but also yes to sensory hypersensitivity. Yes to special interests, but also yes to crying at every single inconvenience. Yes to rambling, but also yes to processing issues. Yes to difficult communication, but also yes to constant and uninterrupted speaking to himself when he's alone. Yes to saying he's autistic, but also yes to showing it.

Sorry this took me so long to answer I was right in the middle of finals.
Here it is:
Special interests in astrology (obviously) and magical creatures (in a muggle au I think he'd love animals too).
Usually very quiet and doesn't talk much but when someone brings up his special interests he can talk for hours (and James finds it adorable).
Really hates physical touch until he meets James and then he becomes very clingy with him. Only exception is Sirius who always hugged him tight when he got overwhelmed as a kid. (Also tight pressure > light touch) (also weighted blankets >>>)
I think he'd be embarrassed and overly conscious of 'big' stims in public so he'd do more 'socially-acceptable' stims. James has a very playful personality and with him Reg starts to unmask more bc he doesn't feel judged. (I think he'd love spinning around as a stim, and James and him would do it together bc it helps James' adhd too)
Always does a little hop on the spot when he gets really excited (james adores it obviously).
Constant rbf because he forgets to make facial expressions and he's always confused when people find him scary cause he's not trying to look intimidating.
Very blunt and terrible liar (except when it comes to big lies).
Often forgets to eat and drink because he misses hunger and thirst cues so James gives him little reminders throughout the day.
Very oblivious to people flirting with him, except with James. He knew straight away (James wasn't subtle) but pretended not to, to make him work harder.
He's a tight clothes under baggy clothes autistic.
Constantly wearing nc headphones or earplugs both to avoid talking to people and to avoid overstimulation.

We don’t talk enough about autistic Regulus and his social anxiety, his hatred of change, his tendency to be always very methodical and tidy while avoiding attentions and blending in with the room; Sirius has always been his focal point, the only one who could calm him down after a meltdown, until James came.
Lovely James, with adhd and an attention span almost non existent, and yet who can only focus on Regulus when he is in the room, making him feel seen and heard in such a sweet and gentle way that Regulus could do nothing but making him the second sun of his own personal solar system.
