Prompts - I didn’t see Doctor Who on your who you write for but I thought I’d ask if you could do one where the Doctor sees reader in different places/times and confronts her and it leads to them travelling together. Hinted romance if you could. No problem if you won’t write for DW, thanks!
“Right then,” The Doctor exclaimed aloud to himself as he made his way back to the TARDIS, “Where to next?” He slowed his pace as he passed a library, seeing a familiar figure huddled over a book and laptop through the window.
You. It was always you. No matter where he went, whether it was 1775 or 200129, you were always there. You were always confused, always had that same crease between the eyebrows and same head tilt as you stared at him like he was mad.
“Who are you?” He whispered to himself as he made his way towards you. A reading from the screw driver showed you were just plain human. There was nothing special about you, no time jumping device that he could see either. You were a mystery and oh how The Doctor loved a mystery.
“Hello there.” The Doctor smiled as he sat himself down in the seat across from you. You looked up at him in confusion, there was that head tilt and eyebrow crease he knew so well.
“Hi?” You greeted, though it came out like a question as you looked up from your book.
“Do you recognise me?” The Doctor asked as he suddenly sat up straight and leaned his body across the table so he was staring into your eyes. You looked around before settling your gaze back on him.
“I’m sorry, should I?” You shot back, confused and slightly annoyed with the man who had interrupted your studying.
“Perhaps you should. Who sent you, huh?” Your eyes were wide as he pulled out a device and zapped it in your face.
“What the- my teacher sent me so I could finish my assignment. What is that?” You gasped, knocking the screwdriver away.
“Nothing, always the same. You’re just a bloody human.” He murmured to himself.
“Of course, I’m human!” You exclaimed as quietly as you could, still aware of the fact you were in the library.
“You can’t be! I saw you in France 1629, then again in Monmouth 1778, then again on an entirely different planet fifteen light years away from this time!” He ranted, slumping back in his chair once more with a defeated look, looking like a child who was close to throwing a tantrum. “You shouldn’t be possible.”
“1629, 1778, another planet? Those are things that shouldn’t be possible.” You told him, causing his head to snap up and a grin to form on his face.
This hadn’t happened before, you always just dismissed him, never picked up on the fact that he claimed to have visited those places at those times. Interesting.
“Oh, it’s plenty possible.” He told you, “But don’t you think I’m mad for trying to claim not only you were there but me too?”
“Oh, I think you’re absolutely bonkers. There’s no way you’re telling the truth.” You claimed, arching an eyebrow at him.
“But I am. I’m The Doctor.” He introduced himself and you felt your head explode with the information, flashes of different men, tall, short, old, young, all with questionable fashion. You gripped your head as The Doctor reached across to you.
“Are you alright?” He asked warily once you’d recovered.
“I-I I do-don’t,” You stuttered before taking a shaky breath, “I don’t know what just happened.” You confessed.
“What did you see?” He asked, more of a demand.
You quickly explained to him what you had saw and watched as his eyes widened. He thought over every possibility but none were right, none explained who you were or how you knew of his other lives. He wanted nothing more than to get you into the TARDIS to see if she could figure out something.
“Listen, I’m a time traveller from Gallifrey, an old and long-gone planet. I have two hearts and I swear on both of them you’ll be ok but you need to come with me because something isn’t right and we need to figure it out.” He told you, barely pausing for breath.
It took quite a bit of convincing for you to follow The Doctor. The two of you walked side by side down brightly lit roads. The air was cool which you appreciated as you’d been stuck in the library for hours desperately trying to finish your paper. A part of you was questioning every decision you had ever made, you knew going off with strangers, especially without telling anybody beforehand, was dangerous but a bigger part of you felt safe, like you knew this man and he would protect you.
It wasn’t long before The Doctor, who called themselves that anyway, was leading you down an alleyway and stopped in front of a blue police box that had you raising an eyebrow.
“You led me all this way for a box?” You asked.
“Trust me.” He grinned at knocked on it causing the door to swing open and a stream of light to flow out.
You looked at him warily but he just tilted his head, gesturing for you to enter.
“Oh my god.” You whispered as you spun around in a circle.
“Go on, say it, I love it when they say it.” The Doctor beamed.
“It’s, It’s bigger on the inside.” You and The Doctor said at the same time causing you to laugh slightly manically. He stepped out of your way as you exited the box only to circle it and re-enter.
“That- this is not possible.” You told him as you ran your fingers along the console causing him to step forward and flick switches you had pressed.
“Everything’s possible.” He told you with a grin. “Now, this is the TARDIS and she’s mine, technically I’m borrowing her but semantics.” He shrugged before continuing, “Now, she can do a scan, completely non-invasive, and we can figure out just what you are.” He told you as he started pressing buttons and pulling levers.
“I thought I was just plain human.” You asked with a hint of amusement.
“Ah, well, perhaps you are but there could be something more to you and I just can’t help myself. I love a mystery.”
You and The Doctor spoke for hours as the TARDIS scanned you and then took a long time to give an alert. The two of you were sat next to each other as The Doctor told you of his adventures.
“So, you can travel anywhere in time and space, right?” You asked.
“Right.”
“So, why not stop the bad stuff from happening, like wars and stuff, surely you can just fly your box there and make everything better.”
“Well, it doesn’t actually work like that. Time and space, somethings are so fixed that no matter what you do they have to happen. Sometimes you know something is going to happen and you try to fix it but your actions are what causes something. Trust me, it’s a blessing and a curse to be able to travel like this.” He explained, suddenly looking like he had the weight of several planets on his shoulders.
“I’d love to travel. There’s so many incredible things that are just out there waiting to be explored.” You told him with a faraway look that caused him to smile softly at you.
“Why not do it then? Go exploring?” He asked, eyes wide as he did.
“That’s not the way things are,” you began with a heavy sigh, “Here you’re expected to finish up your education, start working a 9-5 job that makes you miserable and squeeze out some kids with your partner who you hate.”
“You could always run away with me. You know, one of the best things about having a time machine is I can take you anywhere you want, anytime you want, and have you home five minutes later.” The Doctor told you causing you to look at him in excitement.
“Really!?” You exclaimed, “but you just met me. Why would you want me to travel with you?” You asked him.
“There’s something about you, Y/N. I like you.”

You laughed as The Doctor grabbed your hand and pulled you along with him, the two of you running as fast as you could. You’d begged The Doctor to bring you to see Shakespeare and whilst it was beautiful, though the smell was something that could be better, it had ended with The Doctor narrowly escaping getting punched in the face and the two of you fleeing to the TARDIS, panting as you leaned against the doors.
“That was close.” He laughed as he watched you giggle through deep breaths.
Neither of you had found out why The Doctor had seen you several times. A scan from the TARDIS all those months ago showed that you were in fact just a regular human but The Doctor chose to focus on you, here and now, not on whatever happened. Without it he never would have gone up to you in the library that day, he would have been left alone despite Amy’s wishes.
You truly were a blessing to him.
“Where to next, Y/N?” He asked causing you to grin at him.
“Surprise me.” You told him with a soft smile.
You were a mystery to him in more ways than one.

Prompt - "You need to leave."
Requested - anon

The Doctor never said more about his past than he had to. Most of the people who travelled with him never asked too many questions, too caught up in the life that came with knowing the Doctor to ask about who he really was. When they did ask he gave them just enough to stop asking.
He didn’t know what was different about you. When you asked he found he didn’t mind sharing a part of himself with you, a part of himself that nobody else knew. He couldn’t say for sure why because it ached his hearts terribly to talk about a life long gone but it was a little bit easier with you at his side.
You were a curious thing too, he’d lost count of how many times he’d lost you, you wandering off, too distracted by something or other and ready with a million and one questions by the time the Doctor finally did find you.
He knew sooner or later you’d be curious about him too, once you found out he had two hearts that had taken up about a week’s worth of conversation, you asking questions about Time Lords and what else was different about them, not knowing that there were no more Time Lords out there and missing the sad look that the Doctor forced off his face.
He had taken you to a planet he had found many, many years ago, one that made his chest feel warm and a smile pull on his face as you repeated the name after him, the word Zirafell sounding as beautiful as the planet itself coming from your lips. He had never shown it to anyone before but there was something so extraordinarily different about you that he wanted to share all his hiding spots and secrets with you.
The two of you were sitting in the field, the TARDIS parked not too far away. The grass was littered with little pink and blue flowers and a lilac lake glistened under the two suns in front of you.
“Where are you from anyway?” You asked softly, breaking the peaceful silence that had settled between you causing the Doctor to look at you in surprise but you kept your gaze on the lake.
“Me? Oh nowhere really.” The Doctor answered after a few beats of silence, watching as a frown pulled at your face.
“Everyone’s from somewhere.” You told him, finally turning to face him and seeing the discomfort on his face. You wondered whether to push it but before you could decide the Doctor spoke again.
“Not me. Not anymore.” The Doctor sighed and you stayed silent for a moment, just looking at him.
His gaze was on something just passed your shoulder, refusing to look at you as his mind played memories from long before you could even imagine. You wanted to know what he was thinking about though, wanted to know what put that sort of look on a person's face.
“You could always go back home.” You told him, keeping your voice soft.
The Doctor looked back at you, a sad smile spreading across his face. You hadn’t seen that smile in a while, of course you’d seen it plenty when you’d first met him. A sad man sitting alone looking like his whole world had fallen apart around him and there was nothing he could do about it.
It took some time but eventually he told you about the people he’d lost and how travelling with him was dangerous. He had told you he’d take you home, that he’d understand if you wanted to leave but you just wrapped your arms around him, pulling him in for a hug, smiling into his chest when he gripped you tight.
“Not even I can do that.” The Doctor laughed softly, no amusement in it as he turned to look out at the lake. He never wanted to talk about it, about all that pain and suffering, about what he had done and yet sat here with you, he wanted you to know that sad, angry, lonely part of him.
“My home’s long gone, Y/N.” The Doctor said after a long silence where you had figured he wasn’t going to share anything with you. “It was a beautiful place, you’d have loved it. I’d love to have shown you. The Time Lords, my people, the universe was so much brighter with them in it. People would cheer when they saw one and now, now they’re gone, my planet’s gone.”
“What happened to it?” You asked, voice barely above a whisper as you looked at him, his eyes glazed over.
“There was a war.” He told you, swallowing around a lump in his throat. “It doesn’t matter, but nobody won that day. Nobody ever really wins I suppose. Everyone died. Everyone but me.”
When you first saw the Doctor, before you knew who he was, you just referred to him as the sad man. Watching him now you couldn’t think of a better way to describe him, the sad man, the sad man who was all alone in the universe, the sad man who had lived through the destruction of his whole planet, his whole race.
The sad man with a magical box who spent his life bringing hope everywhere he went.
“The last of the Time Lords.” You murmured, remembering what a woman from several months back had hissed to him, at the time the Doctor brushed it off when you asked questions, now you knew why.
“The last of the Time Lords.” The Doctor agreed just as quietly and neither of you said anything else, there was nothing left to say so you rested your head on his shoulder, his coming to rest on top of yours as the two of you stared ahead at the lilac water.
From that day onwards you and the Doctor were closer than ever, he shared more of his life with you and you found yourself falling a little bit more for the man as each day passed. It was a dangerous thing to do, falling in love with the Doctor and yet you let yourself fall, not bothering to question if he would catch you but enjoying the fall while it lasted.
You felt closer with the Doctor than you had with anyone you had known back home, not a single day went by where you regretted leaving, regretted choosing the Doctor over your old life. You knew you’d make the same choice over and over again. You could never give the Doctor up.
Months passed since that day, months where you and the Doctor would spend your nights floating through the galaxy, legs hanging over the TARDIS door as the Doctor told you about the different stars and planets that surrounded you with such fondness, months were he took your hand in yours and you couldn’t help but smile, savouring the feeling of his thumb running softly across the back of your hand as he pulled you along, tugging you back to him when you went to wander off. Months were you and the Doctor traded secrets in the quiet of the night, things that you’d never have dreamed of sharing with anyone else and yet knowing the whispered words were safe with each other.
“You’ll love this one, Y/N/N!” The Doctor told you with an excited grin on his face, hurrying you to put your coat on causing you to laugh before he finally grabbed your hand and pulled you out of the TARDIS, pausing long enough to lock the box before the two of you were off.
“Welcome to Thucruiruta.” The Doctor beamed at you and you couldn’t help the gasp that escaped you as you finally looked around.
The planet was beautiful, the sky was golden and all sorts of creatures were moving around you, so many things demanded your attention and the thing that won it was the Doctor squeezing your hand.
“It’s beautiful, Doctor.” You breathed out, watching as the Doctor’s grin softened and you didn’t even try and stop yourself from smiling back, leaning into him before letting him lead the way.
The Doctor was eager to show you everything, used to your curiosity and the hundreds of questions you came up with, more than happy to show off and answer them, making his way through the stands and insisting you try all the different foods on display.
It was hard to imagine such a perfect day taking a turn but you had also gotten used to trouble following the Doctor by now, so when an explosion sounded not too far in the distance you immediately turned to the Doctor, waiting for him to do something.
It didn’t take him more than a second to grab your hand, pulling you into the heart of the danger and you went along with him willingly. You knew you always would, you never gave it a second thought, you knew that you would always follow the Doctor no matter where he went.
You gasped as you took in the scene, people were scattered all over the floor, some crying out and others not moving at all. You gripped the Doctor’s hand in yours and he squeezed back before moving further into the chaos, looking around for some clue as to what had happened.
There was a child on the floor, a deep cut in their green skin as blue blood poured from it. You pulled your hand from the Doctor’s and made your way to the child’s side as the Doctor pulled the sonic screwdriver out to try and find what had caused the explosion.
“You alright?” You asked softly, pulling your jacket off and using a sharp bit of rubble to rip the end of your shirt in lieu of a bandage.
“Hurts.” The kid whimpered and you gave her an encouraging smile, warning her it might sting as you tied the torn material around her arm as tightly as you could.
“Good job, that’ll be good until we can get you to your family.” You told her standing up and holding a hand out for her, pulling her up by her uninjured arm and looking around. “Where was your family?”
You watched as she pointed the way you had come from, away from where the explosion was and you glanced over your shoulder to see the Doctor glaring down at the sonic, a furious expression you couldn’t ever remember seeing on his face that sent a shiver down your spine.
“Come on then, let’s see if we can find them.” You said, pulling your gaze from the Doctor and forcing the uneasy feeling you suddenly felt in the pit of your stomach away, leading the young girl away from the scene.
Even in the sea of screams and shouts for friends and family you managed to find the young girl's family quite easily, her mum falling to her knees and wrapping her arms around her daughter, mindful of her arm after she winced.
You stayed long enough for the family to thank you tearfully and the girl to hug you before you pushed your way through the crowd and looked around for the Doctor, frowning when you couldn’t see him.
You made your way further into where the explosion had gone off, gasping when something sharp dug into your arm, looking to your left to see a tall figure beside you, sharp teeth visible as the thing grinned down at you and pushed you forward, dragging you alongside it and not even pausing as you fought back against it.
There was a slimy sort of wet texture to the creature and you couldn’t stop yourself from wincing as it’s nails drew blood from you, the thing snarling the whole time until it pushed you onto the floor and you were staring at sharper nails and blue feet, looking up to see more than a dozen of the things standing together.
“Let her go.” The Doctor’s voice sent a wave of relief through you and your head snapped around to look at him. “Now.”
The Doctor’s voice was cold, so devoid of any emotion that it scared you. The creatures, however, didn’t seem at all phased by him and instead laughed at the Doctor.
“The Doctor always was too fond of the humans.” One of the creatures laughed, sending a wave of spit flying from his mouth. “Too bad he can never save his precious little pets.”
That seemed to hit a nerve with the Doctor and you had heard the stories of his past companions, of how much danger they had been put in simply by being with him. You knew it was scarred on his two hearts, every loss, every defeat, every life lost, every life he blamed himself for.
“The Doctor’s not good at saving anybody.” Another one called, amusement clear in its voice, “Poor little Doctor, all alone, no Time Lords around anymore.”
The creatures all laughed together and you winced as you watched fury take over the Doctor. It seemed these creatures had history with the Doctor, at the very least they knew exactly what buttons to press to tear him apart.
The Doctor looked different, he didn’t look like the Doctor you had seen every day, he looked like a whole different person. Cold fury in his eyes, mouth set in a thin line and his knuckles bone white from the grip he had on the sonic.
“You will let her go and you will leave this planet.” The Doctor told them, voice low and commanding the attention of everyone.
You could only stare at him, fear in your eyes, not sure who you were more afraid of in that moment. Usually you could read the Doctor easily, always seeming to know what his next step was but right then, in that moment you didn’t know what he was going to do.
“Or what, Doctor?” One of them spat but you didn’t bother looking behind at them, keeping your gaze on the Doctor. “The last time we met you were a coward, what’s changed?”
“What’s changed?” He shot back, taking a step forward and you felt your breath catch in your throat at his tone. “What’s changed? The last time I showed you mercy. That was a mistake. I won’t make the same one twice. Now leave.”
“Or what?” It asked again, tone hard as the creatures refused to move.
“Or I’ll burn this entire planet with you on it.” The Doctor said without hesitation and your eyes widened, staring at him in shock.
“You wouldn’t, the Doctor wouldn’t harm innocents, not in the name of revenge.” One of them laughed but it sounded nervous, like it didn’t believe its own words and looking at the fury on the Doctor’s face you had to agree with it.
“Do you really want to test that theory?” The Doctor asked, the silence stretching as the creatures all looked at each other. “All I have to do is press this button and you’ll be dead before you realise it.”
The Doctor held the sonic up and you shook your head, not that he was looking at you but you couldn’t believe him. He wasn’t bluffing, he wasn’t improvising whilst he came up with a plan to deal with this without harming anybody. He was being deadly serious.
You were terrified of the man before you. He wasn’t the Doctor, not the Doctor you knew anyway.
“Liar!” A creature yelled and the Doctor gave it an unimpressed look before going to press the button but you stood up before he could.
“Don’t!” You shouted, reaching a hand out like one would around a scared animal, locking eyes with the Doctor for the first time since you’d been pushed onto the floor. “Don’t.”
“Y/N, you don’t know what these are.” The Doctor told you, his thumb hovering dangerously close to the button on the sonic.
“I don’t care. This isn’t you, you’re the Doctor! People look to you for hope, you’re not a murderer, don’t do this! Don’t become them.” You pleaded with him but his face was still set with cold fury and you feared there was no changing his mind.
“Get to the TARDIS and don’t look back.” He instructed and you immediately shook your head.
“No.” You told him. “No, I’m not letting you do this. There are millions of innocent people on this planet and you will not destroy them for whatever grudge you’re holding.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about, you need to leave. Now get on the TARDIS, Y/N!” The Doctor snapped and you felt tears sting your eyes but held your ground.
“No. If you’re going to burn this planet you’ll do it with me on it.” You said, voice shaking as tears made their way over your eyes, hating that you didn’t know what the Doctor was going to do.
“Get on the TARDIS.” The Doctor commanded through gritted teeth but you shook your head again.
“I already told you I’m not leaving.” You told him, blinking away the tears as they carried on running down your face.
The Doctor held your gaze, the small part of him that wasn’t consumed with anger and hatred felt guilt and hurt as you looked at him like you were terrified, like he was the monster instead of the creatures behind you.
“Leave.” He spat out, not taking his gaze of you as he addressed the creatures. “Get off this planet and if I ever see you again I won’t show a shred of mercy.”
The creatures wasted no time scurrying away, hurrying over to their ships and taking off just as quickly, leaving you and the Doctor staring at each other. Just as the Doctor opened his mouth, you cut him off.
“Take me home.” You told him, suddenly feeling drained.
“Y/N,” he sighed but you just shook your head at him, moving past him and making your way back towards where the TARDIS was parked, using your key to unlock the box and letting yourself in.
The Doctor sighed to himself, rubbing a hand across his face before pocketing the sonic and following after you, desperately trying to think how he could salvage this. He hadn’t wanted to let himself fall for you but over the year and the months you’d spent at each other’s side he couldn’t help it.
Now he was losing you because he had held onto a grudge from so many years back.
The anger had taken over him to the point he couldn’t control himself but you could, you stopped him even when he didn’t think he could be stopped.
When he walked into the TARDIS you were sitting in one of the chairs, looking away from him as he quietly worked on setting a course for Earth, hoping you would change your mind before you got there.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, watching you closely. He could tell you were listening but you didn’t say anything.
“Those creatures, Y/N…” He trailed off and you finally looked over at him, seeing him take a deep breath before he spoke again. “Those creatures are called Eelvo’s. I met them a long time ago, long before I had this face. I lost somebody because of them and I let them go.”
“You don’t kill people.” You told him, your voice quiet but firm and the Doctor sighed as he came and sat next to you.
“I have bad days, Y/N. Days where I am not a good man.” The Doctor told you, ashamed of himself, ashamed that you had seen him like that. He had never wanted that.
“Doctor, today I was more scared of you than any of those other things.” You said softly, glancing at the Doctor as he shut his eyes and swallowed thickly around a lump in his throat, fighting back tears.
The last thing he had ever wanted was for you to be scared of him.
“I’m sorry, Y/N, I’m so, so sorry. I don’t know what happened, seeing them again after so long, seeing the destruction they were still causing, the pain and lives they were still taking…” The Doctor trailed off, a single tear making its way down his cheek.
You sighed softly, reaching over to take his hand in yours and giving it a gentle, reassuring squeeze. You were still unsure, still hadn’t liked seeing the Doctor so furious but he was still the Doctor, he was your Doctor again and seeing him in pain was the last thing you wanted.
“I’m sorry, Y/N/N, I never wanted you to hate me.” He whispered, his voice breaking around the words and you felt your heart break with them.
“I don’t hate you, Doctor.” You told him honestly, “I’ve never seen you like that and I didn’t like it but I don’t hate you. I’m not sure I could ever hate you.”
The Doctor smiled over at you sadly and you returned it, squeezing his hand again.
“I’ll take you home.” He whispered and you frowned, you had asked him to take you home but the thought of actually leaving the Doctor behind sent an ache through you.
“How about Zirafell instead?” You asked him, a small smile pulling at your lips as he looked over at you in surprise.
“You sure?” He asked, a hopeful note in his voice and you nodded, watching as his shoulders lost the tension in them and he let out a small breath, nodding himself before standing up and moving around the console to change the course, hoping that the two of you would be alright.

Prompt - Y/N, the Princess of Vathea, has spent her whole life wishing on the stars, waiting for a life of adventure and excitement. The stars answer in the form of the Doctor.
Inspired by - this post by @cxnnorussy

Zaliri was a beautiful planet full of the brightest greenery and beautiful sparkling stretches of water. For most children growing up on such a planet was exciting, there was never a dull moment, so many secret spots just waiting to be discovered, mountains to climb, hills to roll down, lakes to swim in and beaches to explore. There was always something happening, the many towns were always full of life, whether it be from stalls filled with beautiful things or the nicest of foods, celebrations thrown or fun days hosted.
Most people couldn’t complain much about life on Zaliri, it was a good life.
For you however it was anything but. For you as Princess of Vathea, the Kingdom that your father ruled, filled by many towns spreading all the way to the eastern border where the Kingdom of Thavis started, life wasn’t as good.
You hadn’t always lived a life so sheltered, one where instead of joining the festivities in the closest town, you had to watch from the windows of your bedroom, envying how the children danced and ran around together, hating how people hugged and laughed, sharing stories and food without a second thought.
It was all you wanted, to live a life away from the castle, one where you could laugh freely and explore the lands.
But that wasn’t the life you led. Instead you were confined to the castle and its grounds, hardly allowed to leave and on the rare occasion you were granted permission to venture beyond the castle walls you were surrounded by guards and never allowed to stray from them.
It hadn’t always been this way, you couldn’t remember much of your life before your mother died but you could remember her taking you outside, the Queen joining her people as they celebrated, you and the other children playing together as if you were no different from them.
It was only after her death that your father had sheltered you away, ignoring your cries and pleas to go back to the village. Your father was a fair ruler, the people liked him well enough though they had loved their Queen. It didn’t matter that the King didn’t come down to the villages and give his time to the people as his wife had once done, he kept them safe and they were happy.
You had grown used to your life, you might not have liked it, feeling as though you were wasting it, but you had accepted this was how things were. It wouldn’t matter for much longer anyway, soon a time would come when your father would let you go.
The day after your next birthday you were to be married and you would leave Vathea behind to live in whatever Kingdom your future husband would come into power of. You weren’t all too thrilled to be married to a complete stranger, you hadn’t liked it from the moment you’d found out your marriage would be decided for you but the thought of leaving the castle was enough to keep you from protesting too much.
Silently you mourned though, mourned a life that could have been, one of adventure and excitement, one of travelling to far off places and never having to be trapped again, being able to go wherever you wanted and fall in love with somebody who you truly wanted to marry.
You knew it was an impossible dream, even more ridiculous than the fairy tales you had read as a child and yet you still found yourself wishing and pleading to the stars that shone high above the castle, begging for them to save you, to show you the life you wanted.
Your wish was never answered though. Instead you watched from your window as carriage after carriage pulled up within days of each other, Princes and Kings coming to convince your father they were the best suited to create an alliance with, each leaving with dejected looks on their faces.
You couldn’t say you were too disappointed but as your birthday grew closer and closer you couldn’t help but worry your father would decline every suitor that pleaded their case.
“I have met with Zaliri’s best and finest and I have yet to decide who you will marry.” Your father started that evening, his eyes narrowing as you slumped in your seat. “That is why a ball will be thrown, there you will meet the men I have picked out and you can choose whom you marry.”
You weren’t sure how to feel, of course the thought of marrying anybody you didn’t know was a wretched one but you feared that this was your one chance at freedom. Your father wasn’t concerned by your silence, focusing on his own meal and missing the way you pushed at your food with your fork, an action that if he had noticed would have had him lecturing you on the proper manners expected of a Princess and future bride.
The rest of the meal passed in silence, your thoughts on the upcoming ball with a feeling of dread.
“The ball will be hosted the day of your birthday and the wedding will be planned for the day after.” Your father told you before leaving the room and you sighed, heading up to your own bedroom to stare up at the stars, wishing for a miracle.
The castle was filled with life over the next few days, the workers were busy with the impromptu ball and as the day drew nearer royals from all over the planet starting arriving at your castle.
You did your best to avoid the men but unfortunately they were on a mission to win you over, finding you all over the castle no matter where you ran off to. It was exhausting and you found yourself debating whether a life with one of these dull men was worth it.
Each one you encountered was more boring than the last, all of them were prim and proper, fussing over every little detail and seemed only capable of talking about themselves and their Kingdoms. You weren’t quite sure a single one of them had enquired about you yet, if they did ask questions they were about your father.
You sighed as you ducked out of the castle and out onto the grounds. There was plenty of room, though it didn’t feel that way when you were confined to them, but right now you were grateful for the chance to escape the madness inside, taking a breath of fresh air as you tried to avoid anyone else.
You had been walking for some time, lost in your own thoughts, before you were startled out of them by a body colliding with yours. You let out a yelp, waiting to feel the cold, hard ground, frowning when you felt a pair of arms around you instead, helping you back upright.
“Sorry about that!” The man before you said, a grin on his face as his arms fell back to his side. “You alright?”
Your eyes widened at the man, something about him was…odd. Different in a way you couldn’t quite put your finger on. He was so different to the other men in the castle, his brown coat that seemed so very unlike anything from Vathea, the way he smiled at you and addressed you so informally.
“Miss?” The man prompted and you shook your head, unable to stop yourself from smiling back at him.
“My apologies, I’m quite ok, thank you.” You answered and watched as his smile widened even more, his eyes seeming to light up but you couldn’t say for sure why they would.
“Well I’ll let you carry on with your walk then, my lady.” He grinned, stepping out of your way and holding a hand out for you to walk past him.
You hesitated for a moment, every other suitor had taken up as much of your time as they could before you could politely slip away and this one was leaving you be, not even introducing himself or telling you how well off and important his Kingdom was.
“Thank you, kind sir.” You laughed softly, stepping past the man, pausing to look back at him and shaking your head fondly as he waved at you.
You decided you quite liked the man.
That night the evening meal was a dreadfully boring affair, you had contemplated if you would be able to sneak out when your suitors continued to go on and on about why you should pick them. You looked around the long table, wondering where the man from the gardens had gotten off to, sighing as you realised you had never gotten his name to ask about him.
Hours passed before you were finally able to leave, forcing smiles and laughs as you excused yourself, nodding as you backed away from two men who refused to take a hint before simply turning and walking away from them.
On the way up to your room you suddenly stopped, the hallway was freezing and the lights were dimmed. A shiver went up your spine as you took a step back, unable to explain what it was exactly that had you so unsettled. You couldn’t get to your room any other way and contemplated taking one of the many guest rooms as you took another step back.
When your back collided with something hard you let out a small shout and turned around quickly, turning to see the man from earlier with his hands raised.
“It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s just me.” The man said softly, your chest raising and falling quickly as you struggled to catch your breath. “That’s it, you’re alright.”
“My apologies, I didn’t mean to-”
“No need for apologies, my lady.” The man said, smiling at you, even as his eyes shifted around the hallway, looking past you at something.
When you went to turn around he caught your hand in his, pulling a gasp from you as you turned your gaze back to him but he was still looking over your shoulder. It was only when you cleared your throat did his eyes meet yours and you watched as they widened, your hand falling from his.
“Sorry about that. Won’t you let me walk you to your room?” He asked and any other time you would have declined but something about the hallway scared you so you nodded, watching as the man lifted his arm for you to take.
You couldn’t help but smile as you wrapped your arm in his and let him lead the way down the hall, your gaze darting around the room like you were waiting for something to pop out but you made it through without anything happening and breathed a sigh of relief when you came to a stop at your door.
“There we are now,” The man grinned, “safe and sound.”
You couldn’t help but frown slightly as you looked back towards the direction you had come from, a feeling of dread still weighing on you.
“Did something feel…wrong to you?” You couldn’t help but ask, dragging your gaze back to him just in time to see his eyebrows knit together.
“Wrong?” He prodded and you shook your head, unable to put it into words. “Trust me, nothing’s going to harm you.”
Your frown deepened at that and you looked towards the man, curious about his words, curious about who he was and where he had come from but the man just smiled and took his arm from yours.
“I’ll let you get some sleep, Princess, busy days ahead and all.” He dismissed himself, turning back towards the hallway and leaving you staring at his back.
How improper. One never turned away from a Princess, especially not a suitor who was trying to win her favour and yet this man was so peculiar. You sighed softly and entered your room, shoulders losing some of their tension at the warmth.
It took a while for you to change from your dress and into your sleepwear, turning the main light off and leaving only the soft orange glow of the lamp to light the room, as well as the moonlight that shone through the window.
You walked past your bed and sat on the seat that rested against the window, looking out at the lit up gardens before your gaze lifted towards the stars. You thought back on the strange man, his words, a promise that nothing was going to harm you.
What had he meant? It was a strange thing to say to somebody but mixed with the uneasy feeling you had it made you suspect he knew something you didn’t. He seemed so unlike anybody here and yet you found yourself doing as he requested.
You found yourself trusting him.
So far he had been different but charming and he had been pleasant towards you, something you couldn’t say for anybody else. As much as you hated that your only options were marriage or confinement, you couldn’t help but think you wouldn’t have minded much marrying that man. He seemed anything but dull, he seemed like he was ready for something exciting and you wanted to join him.
The next two days passed without much happening, you didn’t feel that horrible, cold unease you had felt days before and almost wished for it when compared to how bored you were listening to the men drone on and on.
By the time Sunday came, the day before the ball and two days before the wedding, you were just about ready to damn it all and run far, far away. You had noticed your strange man had been absent from all meals and you hadn’t bumped into him again, only catching passing glances at him, unable to stop the smile that pulled at your lips as he grinned and waved at you before running off to do whatever it was he did.
That night you couldn’t find sleep, instead you spent hours staring out of the window from your place in your bed. There was a feeling in the pit of your stomach, not unlike the one you had felt the other day in the hallway. You felt on edge, every little creak making you jump until you sighed and sat up, hesitating before climbing out of your bed and shrugging a coat on.
You slipped your feet into a pair of shoes and opened your door, holding your breath as you waited for something that never came. When you stepped out you couldn’t help but shiver, hesitating for a moment as you debated whether you should just go back to your room.
You shook your head and practically ran through the hallway, making your way out of the castle and avoiding the guards as you snuck outside. You let your feet lead the way, not paying too much attention to where you were going, not until you came upon a tree that towered over you. The tree was always in shades of reds and oranges, never green like every other trees, no matter the season it never lost its leaves or colour.
Underneath it was a gravestone, one that you hadn’t visited for a long time, one that hurt every time you so much as thought of it. Still you let yourself fall to your knees, brushing your fingers along the stone.
You didn’t say anything, what was there that could be said? Everything that would happen from tomorrow was as set in stone as your mother’s name was on the stone before you. Nothing could change it, no amount of wishes to the stars could change what your life was going to be like.
You couldn’t say for sure how long you sat there but a sudden cold breeze had you shivering, the air had been still and warm not a second earlier and you lifted your head to see a mist that had come from nowhere.
You felt your breathing start to quicken as you stood up, looking around the gardens and feeling cold to your bones. A noise form above had your head snapping up and your eyes widened at the figure that watched you.
It was hard to make out exactly what it was, the sky dark behind it but you could see the wings, black and red giant things that flapped ominously as the thing stared at you with cold, unblinking eyes.
Your heart raced, beating so loud you were afraid it would beat right out of your chest. You couldn’t move either, frozen as still as a statute, only able to stare at the beast in the sky. You gasped when a phantom pressure tightened around your neck and you felt yourself struggling to breath, pained gasps escaping you.
You closed your eyes, unable to fight back and knowing you were going to die. That was until a warm hand took yours, seeming to break whatever had been holding you in place and when your eyes snapped open you turned to see your mystery man.
“Run.” He commanded and pulled you along after him.
You wasted no time and followed after him, letting him drag you all the way back to the castle and only stopped when the two of you arrived at your doors.
“Come on now,” He said, opening your door and gesturing for you to step inside. “In you go, that’s it.”
You entered your room and he followed in after you, an act that if it had been any other suitor and any other time would have had you calling the guards but right now he was where you wanted him to be.
You couldn’t explain it but you felt the safest place for you right now was wherever this man was.
“What was that thing?” You asked, hurrying over to your window and staring out at the night sky, not seeing anything there but the moon and stars.
“A creature I haven’t seen for a very long time.” The man said and you turned to look at him with wide eyes.
“You know of such beasts?” You exclaimed, moving over to the man. “Just who are you? You’re unlike any man I’ve ever met before.”
“Thank you.” He grinned before seeming to remember the beast and sighed. “Right now I’m the man who’s going to come up with a plan to save your life.”
“Save my life? What in the stars are you talking about?” You asked, feeling more confused and frightened than you had ever felt in your life.
“That creature out there, it’s a Lonix. It’s a very old and very dangerous creature and for some reason it’s locked onto you.” He said causing you to frown, the man might as well have been speaking another language for how much of it you understood.
“You’re mad.” You told him, watching as his face softened and he smiled sadly at you. “Completely and utterly mad, talking such nonsense.”
“I wish it was nonsense, Princess, believe me I do but right now you’re in a lot of danger and I don’t know how to stop it.” He told you, his words so brutally honest that you couldn’t even try and deny them any longer.
“Who are you?” You finally asked, eyes filling with tears that you struggled to keep at bay.
“I’m the Doctor and I’m going to help you.” He promised and you let out a sob, the Doctor pulling you into his arms and you let yourself cry into his chest.
“You said you don’t know how to stop it.” You finally managed to say, the words barely a whisper but you were close enough to the Doctor that he heard the words just fine.
“I don’t.” He told you, his voice matching yours. “But I’m going to stop it, that much I can promise you.”
You nodded into his chest before pulling away, rubbing at your eyes with the sleeve of your coat, taking a seat on the bed and looking towards the Doctor.
“You said it,” you said, shaking your head in disbelief before trying again. “You said this thing, this Lonix had locked onto me. What does that mean?”
“The Lonix is a creature that keeps itself alive by feeding off others but it can only do that by making deals.” The Doctor started, coming to take a seat next to you on the end of the bed as he continued. “It promises something and takes a life, then it comes back years later and takes another life.”
“I have never made such a deal.” You told him, looking at him and hoping he knew you were being honest.
The Doctor easily saw how scared you were and he took your hand in his, stroking the back of your hand with his thumb softly.
“I believe you but somebody did make a deal. What about your mum and dad? The deal could be years old, it could have been for anything.” The Doctor asked and you glanced away from him only for your head to snap up, wide eyes looking at him.
“You said the creature takes one life and then another years later.” You said, watching as the Doctor nodded. “My mother died when I was five years old. My father, he, he never told me how she died, only that she had passed in her sleep.”
“If they made a deal then the Lonix should be after your father, not you.” The Doctor murmured, more to himself than to you.
“Is it going to kill me too?” You asked once the silence became too much and the Doctor focused back on you again.
“No, listen to me, I am not going to let it get you, do you understand me? You’re going to be just fine.” He promised and you took a shaky breath before nodding, forcing yourself to believe his words because what other choice did you have. “I’m going to fix this, I promise.”
The Doctor left that night despite your protests and somehow you managed to get some sleep, though your dreams were filled with monstrous beings and the Doctor not being quick enough.
It was strange waking up the next morning, knowing danger was close by and yet having to go about your morning as if nothing had changed. You spent most of the day preparing for the ball later that evening, no chance to see the Doctor as you were pulled this way and that, into one gown and then another.
You wanted to see him though. He was the only suitor that you wanted to see, you hoped he was able to figure out how to deal with this Lonix, hoped that afterwards it could be him you married.
Your thoughts stayed on the Doctor all day. Such a peculiar man, you were still not certain which Kingdom he came from and what a strange name, the Doctor, he had offered no more, nothing other than the Doctor.
Last night had changed something in you, not just seeing that terrifying beast but the way the Doctor held you in his arms, the way he held your hand and promised you everything would be ok. Marrying the Doctor didn’t seem like such a chore the way it did when you thought about marrying any of the other men who thought they had a chance. Marrying the Doctor seemed like a lifetime of excitement and you had a feeling he wouldn’t keep you locked away from it but instead he’d introduce you to a world you could only dream of.
It seemed as though the stars, after all those years of wishing on them, had finally heard you and decided to answer your pleas in the form of the Doctor.
You walked into the ballroom after all the guests had arrived, standing at the top of the stairs and immediately scanned the busy room for the Doctor. Every other time you had tried to find him he had seemed to disappear but tonight he was here, gone was his brown coat and bizarre shoes and in their place was a black suit, a white shirt and black tie along with a shiny pair of black shoes.
Your eyes stayed locked to his, a smile spreading across your face as he grinned at you, standing off to the side as you walked down the stairs.
Immediately you were surrounded by suitors but you only had one person in mind. You pushed your way through the crowd, ignoring the shocked and offended gasps, coming to stand before the Doctor who’s smile softened as he looked at you.
“You look beautiful, Princess.” He murmured and you laughed softly, a blush coming to your cheeks.
“Thank you. You look rather handsome yourself, Doctor.” The Doctor opened his mouth to say something but the sound of music coming from the band interrupted him, the men around you talking over themselves as they tried to be the first to dance with you.
“May I?” The Doctor asked and you grinned at him, slipping your hand into his, the two of you laughing as the others complained amongst themselves.
You and the Doctor joined the dance floor, his hand going to your waist and yours resting on his shoulder as your other hands entwined with each other and the Doctor took the lead.
“Doctor, I hate to ruin such a moment but I must know-” You began but the Doctor cut you off.
“The Lonix. There’s a way to stop it.” The Doctor told you, still moving the two of you to the beat of the music, dancing together like you’d been doing it your whole lives. “The only way to stop it is to trap it. If it doesn’t kill you by the time the day ends then it dies.”
“How do we trap it?” You asked, staring at the Doctor with a mix of hope and fear in your eyes and the Doctor squeezed your hand softly.
“It’ll be easier if you’re with me. It’s you it wants, it’s you it’ll follow.” The Doctor told you and you took a deep shuddering breath. “You can stay here though, if you’d like, I can find another way to trap it. This thing is pure evil, feeding off people’s weakest moments and destroying them, I’d understand if you didn’t come.”
“I’m helping you.” You told him, trying to be firm even as your voice shook. “This creature, this monster killed my mother and it wants to kill me. No other family will suffer because of it.”
“I like you, Princess.” The Doctor murmured, a smile pulling at his lips and you chuckled softly.
“I like you too, Doctor. I can honestly say you’re the most exciting thing in my life.” You said and watched as he looked at you in disbelief.
“Come on now, you’re a Princess on a planet that’s full of exciting things.” You couldn’t help but laugh at his words, watching as his eyebrows knitted together.
“For most that’s true, for me though my father never lets me leave the castle. I haven’t left the castle grounds more than a handful of times since my mother died.” You told him softly, unsure why you trusted him to tell him things you’d never told anybody. “I wished for so long for something to change, for a life of adventure and excitement, one where I could explore and never be stuck in one place ever again. I’m just not sure the universe wants me to have that sort of life.”
“Oh I don’t believe that.” The Doctor grinned. “I think we were meant to find each other, Princess.”
You blushed at his words, looking towards where your hands were still tangled together before forcing your gaze back to him.
“I think I’d rather like that.” You murmured, both you and the Doctor pressing closer to each other, your eyes shifting from his down to his lips.
Before either of you could move there was a loud screeching sound and the whole castle seemed to shake. People around you started to scream, all looking around as they tried to figure out what was happening but your gaze stayed locked on the Doctor’s.
“Allons-y.” He grinned at you and before you had time to question the strange word he was pulling you along with him, his hand still tangled with yours.
He led you out into the grounds and didn’t stop running until the creature was in view. There was a determined look on his face as he suddenly stopped, the creature roaring and flying down towards you.
“Doctor.” You called, voice shaking as you gripped his hand tightly in yours. “Doctor, what are you doing?”
He turned to face you, pulling your gaze away from the Lonix as he cupped your cheeks in his hands, forcing you to look at him.
“Do you trust me?” He asked seriously and you didn’t even hesitate, it should have been a silly question, you’d only known the man for a few days and yet they had been the most memorable days of your whole life.
“Yes.” You answered honestly, without the slightest bit of doubt and the Doctor smiled at you.
“Good. Now remember what I said, I’m not going to let anything happen to you.” The Doctor promised and you nodded, putting your life in his hands.
Your breath caught in your throat as the creature flew towards you, your hand still holding the Doctor’s like it was your lifeline. The creature roared as it started its descent towards you and you held your breath, eyes scrunching shut as you waited for something to happen.
When nothing did happen you opened them and gasped at the creature in front of you, it was even bigger from up close. The Lonix thrashed against an invisible barrier, trying to break free but it was no use.
“Told you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.” The Doctor said, drawing your attention back to him and you turned towards him with a deep breath.
“That’s it? It can’t hurt me?” You asked, wincing as it shrieked in its cage.
“Nope, it can’t hurt anyone ever again.” The Doctor told you and you couldn’t stop yourself from throwing your arms around him, pulling him into a hug and letting a few tears of relief slid down your face.
“Thank you, Doctor.” You whispered into his chest as his arms came around you, holding you close to him and resting his head on top of yours.
“You’re most welcome, Princess.” The Doctor held you until you pulled away, his hands coming up to cup your cheeks again, wiping the few tears that had fallen. “You should probably get back to your party, wouldn’t want anybody to come looking and find this.”
“That would be difficult to explain.” You laughed softly. “Won’t you join me?”
The Doctor hesitated, looking over his shoulder before turning back to you.
“Of course, Princess.” The Doctor agreed softly, taking your hand back in his and leading you back to the ball which seemed to have continued, forgetting all about the events from before.
The Doctor let you pull him back out onto the dance floor, the two of you talking softly over the music, blocking out all the other suitors who desperately tried to pull you away from the Doctor but most had realised it was no use.
The night went on, you and the Doctor alternating between dancing and sitting alone at a table with drinks in your hand, the alcohol slowly working and making you feel tipsy and you let yourself lean into the Doctor, the Doctor not complaining in the slightest as he pulled you closer.
It wasn’t until a member of the staff finally broke through your bubble that you realised it wasn’t just you and the Doctor in the room. The woman nervously interrupted the two of you and told you your father wanted to see you.
You excused yourself from the Doctor, letting the woman lead you to where your father stood frowning at you.
“Is everything ok, father?” You asked and watched him shake his head.
“Who is that man you’ve spent the entire evening with?” He demanded to know and this time it was your turn to frown. “He is no King or Prince!”
“What are you talking-” You began to say, looking over your shoulder to see the Doctor was nowhere to be seen. “Excuse me, father.”
You ignore his protests, walking away from him and leaving the ballroom, making your way out of the castle, hoping the Doctor was just going to check on the creature considering it was past midnight.
You saw him off in the distance, the creature nowhere to be seen and the Doctor looking as if he were leaving. That wouldn’t do at all, you had chosen him, he was the one you wanted. At first it had been a marriage of convenience but now you were glad of it.
You liked the Doctor, you felt like you could spend forever with him.
You followed him down, frowning as you tried to figure out where he was going when you watched him unlock a small blue box before he pushed the door open and went inside. You ran down the hill to catch up with him, most confused about what he was doing.
When you finally got to the box your frown deepened, what in the stars was he doing in there?
“Doctor?” You called, waiting a moment before touching the box, just as you did the door opened and you took a step back as the Doctor stepped out. “What are you doing?”
“Oh well, um, I just had things to check on.” The Doctor stammered and you looked at him as though he had grown another head.
“In a box?” You laughed in disbelief and the Doctor looked between you and the box. “The box doesn’t matter. Doctor, I just spoke with my father and he says he doesn’t know you, that you’re not one of my suitors? How can that be? You were invited here were you not? None of those other Kings or Princes stood a chance once I met you, it’s your bride I wish to be, not theirs.”
“Oh Princess.” The Doctor sighed, looking at you with warmth in his eyes. “I’m not a King, I’m not a Prince.”
“Then who are you? Why are you here if not for me?” You questioned, confused and a little bit devastated that it wasn’t him you could choose.
“Believe me, the only reason I’m here is for you. I’m sorry, I didn’t, I was more focused on the Lonix than those men in there.” The Doctor told you sadly.
“Who are you, Doctor?” You asked because you had always known he was different but you couldn’t begin to know how.
“I’m a Time Lord. This box is the TARDIS, it travels anywhere in time and space.” The Doctor told you, watching as your eyes widened and you shook your head in disbelief. “It’s true, look.”
The Doctor clicked his fingers and the door to the TARDIS flew open, your eyes followed the moment before looking back to the Doctor who gestured for you to enter. You hesitated before doing as he instructed, gasping as you walked in.
“It’s bigger on the inside!” You laughed, walking up to the console and running your fingers along it. “Doctor, it’s amazing!”
“I can take you somewhere, if you’d like.” The Doctor offered and you froze, staring at him with some much hope that it made him smile. “Anywhere you like, any time you like.”
“You mean it?” You whispered, taking a step towards him and the Doctor nodded, taking your hand in his as he spoke.
“I can show you the life you wished for, I can show you the stars you wished on.” He promised and how could you possibly say no to that.
You didn’t hesitate to agree, unable to stop yourself from hugging him again, blinking away the tears in your eyes as you realised you were finally leaving the castle grounds and you didn’t have to marry a man you didn’t love to explore the universe.
“One trip to the stars, Princess.” The Doctor grinned and you couldn’t help but laugh as he moved around the console, flicking switches and pulling leavers as he went.
The stars were beautiful, you happily listened to the Doctor tell you all about them, getting lost in both the stars and the Time Lord for hours. The one promised trip turned into two, the Doctor insisting you had to see the festival of lights on Luiria which really were the most beautiful sight, the Doctor would have agreed but he’d spent more time watching you than the lights and that was a far better sight. After that he couldn’t let you leave until you’d visited Oaphus and then of course there was Vaetis.
“Hey Doctor?” You said to him one night as the two of you wandered the streets of Noavis after watching a play, the Doctor’s hand in yours, his thumb brushing softly against the back of your hand every once in a while.
“Yeah?” He answered, tilting his head to look at you with a smile, you’d never been able to stop yourself smiling back at the man.
“How long can I stay with you?” You asked him, watching his smile widen as he pulled his hand from yours to drape his arm over your shoulders to pull you closer.
“For as long as you want.” He murmured and you lifted your head to look up at him.
“Forever?” You asked and the Doctor laughed, a laugh full of happiness as his eyes crinkled with how wide he smiled at you.
“Forever sounds perfect, Princess.” He told you, pressing a kiss to your hair and you couldn’t help but agree.
Forever did sound perfect.

23 - “It’s my job to keep you safe, yes, but you could work with me a little to make it easier.”

25 - ‘I am usually an optimist but I have never hoped for a sad ending like I do for you and her.’
26 - “I can’t say if the day I met you was the best or worst day of my life.”
27 - “Don’t look at me like that.”
28 - ‘Do you think the universe fights for souls to be together? Some things are too strange and strong to be coincidences.’
29 - “She’s my best friend, that’s never changed.” “Yeah, the only thing that changed was your feelings for her.”
30 - “How many fingers am I holding up?”
31 - “You’d die for her?”
32 - ‘He had that awkward tenderness of someone who had never been in love and was forced to improvise.’
33 - “I did it for you, you idiot.”
34 - “If I never see you again just know that I love you so, so much.”
35 - ‘He kissed her. Without warning, without permission. Without even deciding to do it, but simply because he couldn’t have done anything else.’
36 - “I thought you were dead!”
37 - Squeezing their hand reassuringly
38 - “Whatever you do, do not make a sound.”
39 - “I had a nightmare about you and I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
40 - “I can’t do this without you. I won’t do this without you.”
41 - “See? I told ya they’d get together.”
42 - ‘There is some good left in this world and it is worth fighting for.’
43 - Born with your soulmates first name tattooed on your body
44 - ‘There are some people that you meet and you just know from the get go that they are important, that you have to do anything to keep them in your life. He was that person.’
45 - “You came to me, begging me for help!”
46 - “Tell me about your life before all of this.”
47 - ‘S/he would always be my biggest what if.’
48 - “It turns out I’m absolutely terrible at staying away from you.”
49 - One being forced to hurt the other but refusing, getting themselves hurt instead
50 - “Why is it always the people you can’t trust saying “trust me”?”
51 - ‘If you were going to die, I was going to die with you.’
52 - “You can’t sleep yet kid, I need you to stay awake.”
53 - ‘We met at the wrong time. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. Maybe one day, years from now, we’ll meet in a coffee shop, in a faraway city somewhere and we could give it another shot.’
54 - Five times they wanted to say ‘I love you’ and the 1 time they finally did
55 - “I always thought you were the bravest person I’ve ever met.”
56 - “I’ve never had a family before.”
57 - “I’m not leaving without her.”
58 - ‘Sometimes we do everything right and it’s still not enough.'
59 - “Hey, you’re bleeding.”
60 - ‘We’re in love, we just want to be together. What’s wrong with that?’
61 - “Take me instead. Leave her/him and take me.”

66 - Drunken kiss
67 - “Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.”
68 - ‘Home is not where you are from. It’s where you belong. Some of us travel the whole world to find it. Others find it in a person.’
69 - “If I had it my way, we’d never leave this bed.”
70 - ‘Everything that needs saying, truly saying, begins with a lump in the throat.’
71 - When mysterious injuries appear on your body, it’s because your soulmate got them.

74 - “Don’t hurt him! Just stop hurting him, please!”
75 - ‘Sometimes there are no words that can help. Sometimes you just need to sit together in silence and try to come to terms with how the world works.’
76 - “When I let a day go by without talking to you, that’s just not a good day.”
77 – “Do you have a plan?” “I have a gun.”
78 - “How long did you think you could hide that?”
79 - “Leave with me.”
80 - ‘She was good and he needed a little good in his life because without it there was an awful lot of darkness.’

84 - Person B is frowning all the time but Person A can always see when they are happy (Grumpy x Sunshine)
85 - ‘I want you to always remember me. Will you remember that I existed and that I stood next to you here like this?”
86 - “I’ll do it, but only because you asked me to.”
87 - 5 times Person A treated Person B’s injuries, plus 1 time Person B treated Person A’s injury.
88 - ‘Maybe one day we’ll meet again and I’ll be right for you and you’ll be right for me.’
89 - "Dying in the middle of nowhere doesn't seem so bad if you're here."
90 - “Oh no, you’re a morning person.”
91 - “I hate you.” “I love you too.”
92 - “No, don't stop, keep talking. I like hearing you talk.”
93 - “Are you cold?”
94 - “What do you want from me?”
95 - “Look, I know you hate me but I don’t know what to do and I really need some help.”
96 - “I’m not leaving you. Not this time.”
97 - “I wish things had been different.”
98 - “I can’t leave you alone for a second without you getting into trouble, can I?”

100 - “This isn’t just an (object), it’s a promise.”
I'm dying, it's so funny HA🤣
Short Shorts at 20,000 Feet
Pairing: Tenth Doctor/Reader
Warnings: Another confusing title, one Naughty word maybe?)
Summary: After gremlins hotwire the TARDIS and leave it an overheated mess, its inhabitants suffer through some heat, as well as Donna’s matchmaking shenanigans.

“I’m dying.” The words scratched your throat as they crawled out. “I’m dying and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
“You’re not dying,” the Doctor replied, and you could hear the grin in his voice.
He was being obnoxiously cheerful, thought Donna Noble, who was also halfway through melting to death. Not for the first time, she shook an internal fist at whatever evolutionary thing-a-ma-do on Gallifrey evolved Time Lords into temperature insensitive assholes. The Doctor barely had a drop of sweat on him, and he’d only removed his jacket and tie. With rolled-up sleeves, he was sprawled out under the console, where all the heat radiated from in the first place. Occasionally, his head would pop out to make jovial little quips.
Donna wondered if this is what animalistic hatred felt like, if animalistic hatred was tempered by a lack of will to live.
The two of you were sprawled out on the console sofa-chair, both stripped down to shorts and undershirts. Today’s All of Time and Space field-trip had been planned as an ecotour of the steamy planets of the Leo constellation, but the day had taken an involuntary detour into the smoking section of Hell. Donna gave it about twenty minutes before her chastity completely evaporated, and her knickers made their debut.
Gremlins.
Of all of the Twilight-Zone-esque gimmicks she’d come to expect in your travels, gremlins hadn’t made the list. Next you’d be held hostage by dolls or given facelifts by pig people.
“I am too dying,” you said, only half-teasing. You were holding a book, as if you could distract yourself from getting heatstroke. But if Donna was following your gaze correctly, you seemed more distracted by the Doctor’s forearms. “My book’s getting sweat stained. And that is the nastiest sentence I’ve ever said out loud.”
“I’m stuck to the seat with my own sweat,” Donna added, picking at where her thighs fused with faded yellow leather.
“I’ll have it all fixed in a jiff,” the Doctor insisted. He ignored the look you and Donna shot each other; you’d heard the same sentence five times in the last miserable half hour. “We threw out the whole lot of the Graenliopods—“
“Gremlins,” Donna corrected in a mumble.
“—so the TARDIS is completely safe. Console’s not even on fire anymore! Just have to make a few adjustments to the temperature settings, unlock the door and the other rooms, and everything’ll be right as rain.”
The TARDIS groaned like the hull of a ship as it hit an iceberg. The lights flickered. The Doctor grunted, squinting as some dial whirled out of control. Donna thought she saw his hair droop.
You were going to die.

war veteran!reader specific. Starts out very serious and ends on a somewhat silly note because we’ve been too angsty here lately. This is a little sloppy because I wrote it in about ten minutes, but I was in the mood for speed-writing so this is what you get.
If the Doctor had ever asked you, you would have proudly told him that, yes, you had served. You were a soldier. You were one of those people who he sneered at because they held guns and took orders. You would have shoved your service record in his smug face when he acted like not using a gun or disliking salutes made him so morally superior. But he didn’t ask, so you didn’t say anything. You just waited for him to notice, and you knew the look on his face when he found out was going to be worth however long your silence lasted.
That said, the fact that the Doctor didn’t know about your military background was the only thing keeping you from slapping him. Both of him.
Well, there were three of him, at the moment. A future him and a past him. The future him, Eleven, was actually being less irksome than the present him, but they were both being rather difficult. And that was all because of the past him.
His past self, the Warrior, was achingly familiar to you. You liked him, too, as much as you liked every other version of him. And, as brusque as he acted, you had caught him shyly staring at you when he seemed to think you weren’t looking. They called him the Warrior, but all you saw was a man who just wanted the fighting to end.
And the Doctors were acting like it was all his fault. Their behavior wasn’t as surprising as it would have been if you didn’t already have the gist of their dynamic as different versions of the same man, but, oh, the anger you felt blindsided you. You hadn’t expected to feel like this, like there was fire in your chest, just because one Doctor sneered so derisively at another. But the anger was there, and you had to focus mainly on breathing evenly and not slapping either of the Doctors.
That got a little more difficult when you were all confined within a small space.

“Hello, foxy lady.”
You shielded your eyes from the multiple suns, unprepared to see a young man in a tweed suit and bowtie in the middle of the previously empty field. “Excuse me?”
“Too disco?” the man deflated. His brown hair even seemed to droop. “Sounded good in my head, a little James Bond; aloud it’s a bit Saturday Night Fever. But ding dong, look at you! All set up for the Phosphorean Invasion! And with only a two minute head start. Impressive.” He frowned, puzzled. “Very impressive. Even for you.”
You looked between him and your tech set up: a pile of antennas and knobs that the Doctor had instructed you to arrange in a half-circle while he and Donna redirected artron energy from the TARDIS in your direction. The idea seemed convoluted, even for the Doctor, and involved projecting an image of the planet five billion years in the future over the entire globe, so that the invaders would see a barren wasteland. “Um. Thank you?”
The man grinned and took your hand. As he helped you to your feet, his touch felt vaguely familiar. So did something about his smile. “Lot of upward inflections today, I see. I see?” He mimicked you. Peering at you, as you straightened up, he muttered. “Something’s changed, something’s different.” He jabbed a finger at your head. “Did you change your hair?”
“I don’t think I did,” you replied, and you tried to make sure your tone didn’t turn the statement into a question.
“Must be me. Must’ve changed my hair.”
You started to point out that that made absolutely no sense, but he’d cut you off. “You’ve pointed the projector in the wrong direction, darling.”
Darling?
“No, I haven’t. You said just upwards was fine; the whole atmosphere’s just upwards.” Your brow furrowed. No, the Doctor had said that, not this stranger; why did you say that?
“Did not, I said if you don’t point it away from the suns, there’ll be a nasty glare, give the whole thing away.” He wrapped his arm around your shoulder, pulling you flush to his side. He pointed at the horizon’s many suns. “… Everyone knows that.”
You were about to protest, again, even though he sounded right, when the bright light that heralded the Phosphorean forces—it looked like a too-big star—brightened in the sky. “Right,” the man said, “Got to readjust very quickly.” He pulled out a… sonic screwdriver?? Longer, though, and greener, but there was the same familiar sound. “All right, foxy lady, time to save the planet.”
—
Donna Noble crept up behind the Doctor, holding a very large hose-like-thing. She’d forgotten the name of it. Probably didn’t matter. He was crouched behind the rocks that lined the hill the TARDIS had been parked on, looking down into the field with some sort of space-man tech.
“What’re you doing?” Donna rested the hose on her hip. It was awfully heavy, and hooked up to the TARDIS console. “Aren’t you supposed to be getting ready to shoot time bits at Y/N’s projector? What’ve you got binoculars for?”
The Doctor frowned. He didn’t turn around, still focusing intensely on the view. “They’re not binoculars. Ever seen binoculars do this?” A little antenna popped up, emitting a faint static. There were words, fuzzy, not very distinct. But Donna could make out your voice.
Donna tried to peer through the ‘binoculars’ too, pressing her cheek against his. She ignored the Doctor’s affronted grunt and looked through one lens. “Who’s this? Why’s he dressed like that?” she asked. She watched a man in tweed flutter around you, help you to your feet. At one point, he pressed his nose to yours while you blinked in confusion. “Looks like a bit of a knob. Looks like three armchairs died for that suit. Looks like he’s his gran’s little man.”
“Yeah, that’s me.”

Word Count: 1906
Pairings: 10th Doctor x Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff
A/N: Request from @imaginesfire, and hello everyone! Contrary to popular belief I am in fact still alive lol, I've missed you all!
Summary: That little spike in energy, that small blip that hardly lasted a minute. It was such a small reading, something the TARDIS only picked up every so often. It really shouldn't bother him as much as it did. But then one day the signal stayed, and the answer wasn't anything like he expected.
.............................................................................
"Doctor, what's this blinking thing on the screen?"
The Doctor glanced up at his companion, who stared at the small monitor on the control console. He didn't need to look to know exactly what she was talking about. That annoying reading, that'd given him a great many headaches. There one minute and gone the next. He'd stop looking when it did appear.
Of course, Donna didn't know any of that, and her inquisitive demeanor had him acknowledging that inconvenient dot once more. Of course Donna, being the stubborn human she was, didn't pay any mind to his silence, repeating her question once more, a bit louder this time.
"Doctor, what's this dot mean?"
"Just a blip." He sighed dismissively, turning a dial.
Donna made a face as the TARDIS
jerked, and she leaned against the console as she placed a hand on her hip.
"I can see that, I asked what it means, you dolt." She huffed.
She didn't miss the slight twitch in his eye as he muttered an answer under his breath, flipping a small switch. Donna stood up straighter, frowning a bit.
"What?"
"I don't know!" The Doctor repeated, louder, with more irk.
"You don't know?" Donna snorted, convinced he was joking, until she noticed how hard he was trying to ignore her.
"You're serious? Mister, I know everything in the universe? You really don't know?"
The Doctor said nothing, and Donna looked back towards the blip on the screen, blinking steadily.
"Is it something dangerous?" She asked.
No answer, although when had that ever deterred her before?
"Something exciting?"
The Doctor sighed, turning his attention to the very talkative red head in his company.
"It doesn't matter, it'll be gone soon. A glitch."
Donna couldn't help but smile when she saw how frustrated it seemed to make him.
"You don't know, and that just eats you up, doesn't it? Why not find out then?"
"It doesn't stay long enough to get a lock on it. Why must you ask so many questions about it?"
Donna sighed, motioning to the screen with irritation.
"Because the bloody thing won't stop blinking, it's downright annoying."
The Doctor froze, quickly pushing Donna out of the way to look at the screen himself.
"It's still there..."
"Yeah, I just said that, didn't I? Have you got space dust in your ears?"
"Donna, it's still there, why is it still there? It's never still here."
It was a wonder the Doctor didn't feel the exasperation rolling off her.
"You're the alien, you tell me."
And then he was grinning, that grin that promised trouble, the one that always made Donna wish she'd worn better shoes for running.
~
You hadn't actually meant to stop on this planet, at least not during this particular moment in time. Although there wasn't anything wrong with this time, it just wasn't the date you were hoping for. You stepped out of your time machine, although now it more resembled a small shop, nestled between some substantial larger buildings.
"How quaint, I rather like this look." You smiled, studying the exterior before turning to continue on your way.
You were about halfway down the street and nearly out of the small village when you heard a faint vworp noise. You paused a moment, glancing back towards your disguised shop. But it didn't move, it wasn't drifting or even fading, and you never left the brakes on when it wasn't in park. That wasn't to say you didn't occasionally forget, which is why you knew that sound. Of course, that begged the question.
If it wasn’t your TARDIS, who's was it?
~
The first thing The Doctor noticed when he stepped out was the lack of buildings. He distinctly remembered there being large cities the last time he visited. Although that was many years in the future. When Donna stepped out, though, she was wearing a rather large sun hat, humorous enough to make The Doctor give her a second glance.
"What have you got on your head?"
"We're in the country! This sun is damaging, I'm protecting my youthful glow."
"It's awful." He said bluntly.
"It's cute." Donna disagreed, a little aggressively.
The Doctor opened his mouth to make a comment on the human specie's need for maintaining appearances, but then he noticed the girl circling his TARDIS and he paused to stare. Donna frowned, turning her head to look at what had grabbed his attention.
"Look at this color, I love this shade of blue!"
You paid no mind to the two people openly staring at you. The strange appearance of this TARDIS captivated your attention, and you ran your fingers over the blue wood.
"Oi! What're you doing?" Donna called, crossing her arms.
You finally turned your attention to them, words briefly failing you when you saw the size of the hat on her head.
"That's very lovely...very... uh, very big?"
"Like the hats the New New Yorkers used to wear during their not so great height of fashion." The Doctor chuckled.
"Oh that was a dreadful era, I skipped it, remember those coats that looked like they were made of pool noodles?" You laughed.
The Doctor snorted, grimacing at the memory.
"But the hats, oh goodness, those awful things."
Donna grumbled a little, taking the hat off her head, tossing it to the ground.
"Alright, I can take a hint! You tasteless species can enjoy each other's company!"
The Doctor frowned when she began to walk off towards the small village.
"Where are you going?" He called after her.
"To buy a decent sized hat!"
You took her place beside the tall man, watching her ginger hair disappear into the crowd of people on the streets.
"I like her spunk."
The Doctor glanced at you from the corner of his eye, and you gave him a grin, before returning to your inspection of his ship.
"It's very out of place here, isn't it? A blue box in an open field. Is the chameleon circuit out?"
You received no reply, he was too stunned to say anything.
"You could fix it."
The provoked a response, a rather defensive one.
"What's wrong with the police box? You don't like it? I like it."
You turned your head to look at him, smiling a bit.
"Then leave it be, if you like it, what everyone else thinks doesn't matter. It's your TARDIS after all."
That caught his attention, and he seemed ready to bombard you with questions about your uncanny knowledge. Until your eyes widened, and you were speaking before he could get a single syllable out.
"You're the blip on my screen!" You accused, pointing a finger at him.
He sputtered a bit before pointing back at you, all his questions forgotten.
"No, no. You're the blip on my screen!"
You shook your head, and he pulled out a strange looking device, scanning you with it.
"Is that a sonic?"
The Doctor didn't reply, too shocked to say anything, standing there in complete disbelief.
"You're a Time Lord..."
"I like yours, mine's seen better days." You hummed, pulling out a sonic of your own, although yours was in a bit of disrepair.
You attempted to show him, but your carefree smile disappeared when you saw the look he was giving you. The pain in his eyes, the way he stared at you as if you'd simply vanish.
"How are you here? How did you escape the war?"
You didn't answer, instead holding out your hands to him. He looked at it confused, and you wiggled your fingers a bit.
"Well, come on, don't leave me hanging here."
After a brief moment of hesitation, he placed his hands in yours, and you guided his hands to your temples.
"Go ahead. It's a long story, it'll be quicker this way."
He looked apprehensive for a few seconds before the familiar pressure of someone shifting through your memories began to give you a headache. You blocked off memories you didn't want him to see, memories he didn't need to know about. When he finally got his answers, finally pulled his hands back, he was satisfied, and you were left rubbing your temples to embed the growing headache.
"The end of the universe, must have been very lonely." It was all the comfort he offered.
You laughed lightly, giving him a gentle smile.
"Not as lonely as thinking you were the last."
He grinned, putting his hands in the pockets of his trench coat as he rocked on his heels a bit.
"Poked around a bit in my mind too, did you?"
"Using telepathy is like using a door, it can go both ways."
His smile widened.
"You've been a pain in my ass for months you know, popping up on my screen, my monitor beeps, loudly." You scolded him, although your gleeful smile didn't match your tone.
"Me!? You've been showing up on mine for years! Couldn't get a lock on you though, you blink out my time too fast."
"Well of course! There's so much to see, how could I stay in one place for long? So little time to travel it all, or perhaps too much time."
He grinned, eager to talk to you, to hear your adventures. You rocked back and forth on your feet, rambling on, as he hung on to every word.
"Have you ever been to Midnight? I heard about this one passenger, he saved a shuttle that was heading to the falls but never made it. I've been meaning to go but haven't yet, don't think I will now though."
~
The two of you had begun to talk, sitting in front of his TARDIS on the grass. Exchanging stories of the adventures and misadventures each of you had. Although his sounded far grander than your own.
"Well isn't this a lovely sight, here you two are, on your butts while I've been on my feet all day. Lazy sort aren't you?"
Donna's voice caught both of yours attention, and The Doctor scrambled to his feet.
"Donna! Meet Y/N! She's a Time Lord! Or Lady, I suppose." The Doctor proudly introduced you with a little Ta-Da motion.
"Oh, I'm fine with either really." You said as you stood to your feet as well, albeit more gracefully than the Doctor had.
"You mean she's one of you?"
The Doctor nodded.
"Great, just what the universe needs, more of you. You don't go around kidnapping brides too, do you, Martian girl?"
You furrowed your eyebrows, looking a little confused.
"I'm not... I'm not a martian, we're-"
The Doctor made a face, motioning for you not to start that particular argument. Donna ignored your interrupted protest, glancing around.
"Where's your box, then?" She asked.
You couldn't help but laugh lightly as the Doctor scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"They don't all look like that, his circuit is broken."
Your eyes suddenly lit up, and you began to walk towards the town.
"But you've got to see what it disguised it's as this time! I love it! I'm considering breaking my circuit as well!"
For a moment, the two of them watched you walk off, before beginning to trail behind you. Donna nudged the Doctor as they walked, giving him a sly look.
"You seem happy space man, planning on following her over the universe for a while?"
The Doctor smiled, watching you ramble on, using your hands to emphasize your words, a pep in your step.
"Ah, well... maybe for a bit."

Summary: Time travel is always a bit unpredictable, and you’re never totally sure where you’re gonna end up. Travelling with the Doctor had made you prepare for many scenarios, but never one where his future self would be the one to declare that he adores you, before your own Doctor could.

You don’t hear the sounds of the TARDIS from the outside much, but it sounds louder, much louder and in fact, as you run down the street to the alley the TARDIS was parked at, the thought that the Doctor was leaving you was deafening in your ears.
Almost reaching the TARDIS, you speed your steps, only to skid to a halt when the TARDIS was still in its place and the Doctor was standing right in front of it.
And… another TARDIS?
“What’s happening, Doctor?” You grab his hand, looking at the second TARDIS.
“I don’t know.”
Your eyes widen. “You hate not knowing.” You whisper mere seconds before the TARDIS doors open.
The Doctor and you share a look of concern before a familiar pair of worn out converse pops through first, followed by the flowing sway of a trench coat you hadn’t seen in a while.
“Doctor?” You whisper. Of course it was the Doctor! Who else would be in the TARDIS?
“Y/N!” The other Doctor cheers as he sees you, a smile brightening on his face and the Doctor- your Doctor, the current Doctor, tightens his grip on your hand.
You look between him and your Doctor several times. “Oh this is too weird.” You conclude and let go of the Doctor’s hand to bury your head in your hands for a second. You look up again with a forced smile and a deep breath. “Alright Doctors, I’ve been by your sides for, well, many regenerations but I’ve never seen more than one at a time.”
“Or you don’t remember.” Your Doctor corrects you and you glare at him.
“Oh you know, paradoxes and all that.” The younger Doctor adds before squaring up with your bow tie wearing Doctor. “So, you’re me?” He asks and shoves his hands in his pockets.
“And you’re me.” Your Doctor adjusts his bow tie with a smirk and you roll your eyes.
“And I’m Y/N. Great we’ve all met each other.” The Doctors give you matching grins as you glance between them and shake your head before settling on the younger doctor again. “Why are you here? And where am I?”
He glances back to the TARDIS and nods. “You’re in there, recovering from the flu you got on Galafrek.”
Galafrekan Flu. Right. You remember that, you were practically in a coma for a week. “And I’m here because of this!” He pulls out his psychic paper and opens it up, about to hold it out to show you before your Doctor takes it out of his hand. He pulls you close to him as you both look over the scribbled words.
“It’s just your name. Over and over again.”
“Yes and the TARDIS took me here.” He states and glances around the alley to find anything out of the ordinary. “Why?”
“Because I was curious.”
Your voice pulls the doctor’s confused glances to you, but the only problem was that wasn’t your voice. It sounded like you, but you hadn’t said a thing.
You shake your head and shrug before the three of you turn around.
There you were at the end of the alley with a young and carefree smile on your face and just to your right stood yet another Doctor wearing a leather jacket.
The Doctors seem to be just as surprised a you were to see another one you them alongside you because no one said anything, only staring at each other expectantly.
“Alright, I’ll bite.” You clear your throat and turn to the Doctor. “You let me go outside when my hair looked like that?” You joke and the Doctor laughs softly with you.
“What’s wrong with my hair?” Young you calls out as she ran a hand over her hair, trying to figure out what was wrong with it.
“Nothing!” You call out.
“Sorry sweetie, if I maybe if I remembered this day, I’d of told you.” He counters and you hold back your grin.
“You called us here?” The other doctor next to you calls out as the other you and her Doctor finally approaches you all.
She shrugs. “I wanted to know what would happen.”
You furrow your brows and look into the pair of eyes its been the longest since you’ve looked into. “And you let me?”
“Well, if I hadn’t I wouldn’t hear the end of it for weeks.” He explains.
Both Doctors next to you speak up. “It’s true.” They say at the same time and you scoff in offense.
“No it’s not!” You defend yourself the same time the other you does as well.
“Oh, this is going to be weird.” Your Doctor concludes and you nod, feeling his slip his hand into yours between your close bodies.
“Anyone care for breakfast?” The Doctor in the trench coat looks at a café across the street when he speaks and with no objections, the 5 of you head off.
---
You order for everyone while they got a seat since you knew everyone’s orders from over the years and actually, well, being yourself.
“You’re the next Doctor?” The youngest doctor asks the correct Doctor who nods his head and takes a bite of the scone you bought him. He turns to you next, sipping on your tea as you listen to him. “And you’re still traveling with me? With us?”
A small smile joins your face, just like the one on your Doctors who is trying to hide it behind his cup. This Doctor was too young. This Doctor doesn’t know what your relationship became over the years. Traveling doesn’t even begin to describe it. “Yes, I am.” You settle on, finding your Doctor’s hand under the table. “Can’t get rid of me that easily, Doctor.”
“Ah, wouldn’t dream of it.” The last Doctor says as he joins in the smiling. He knows a little more than the other Doctor. Not all, but you and the Doctor had been dating for months already when you got sick. That’s why he was so worried when you woke up that morning on Galafrek more sick than you ever had been in your life. He was so thankful it was only a flu and with enough sleep, you would be fine.
But still, he doesn’t know everything.
The youngest Doctor noticed the touching. He noticed the glances, the smiles, but most importantly, he noticed the ring sitting on your finger. He was sure you hadn’t meant for them to see it as your hand had been under the table all meal, but you scratched your nose at one point and he caught sight of it.
“You’re married.” He blurts out and the current conversation dies as everyone looks at him and then to you.
Your sat there with your mouth gaping open. “What?” You chuckle awkwardly and sip your tea.
He nods to your hand. “The ring.” He points out and you look to your hand just like everyone else, seeing the wedding ring as plain as day. You tap it gently against your cup.
“Oh. I suppose I am, yes.” You fight back a smile.
Your Doctor rests his hand on your thigh and you glance at him briefly to see him stuffing custard into his face.
“We got married?” Your quiet and shocked voice finally pulls your Doctor’s eating to a halt. You nod at your younger self, watching her eyes twinkle with hope and you know, even then, you were hoping it would be to the Doctor. “I can’t believe it.”
Her Doctor spares her a look but she’s too busy focusing on your ring donning hand. “Why not?” He sounded offended for her, that the thought of you marrying was so far beyond imagination that even you couldn’t believe it was happening.
She shrugs and meets your eyes. Over your lifetime, you’ve become really good at reading yourself. And right now, with that look, you were telling yourself it was because you could only ever dream of marrying the Doctor.
You smile at yourself, a smile that meant dreams sometimes comes true.
“Who to?” Your trench coat wearing Doctor speaks up from behind his hand in his face that he was leaning on.
Your smile turns to him now. “Spoilers, Doctor.” You whisper.
It was pointless though, every Doctor and his Y/N knows the truth now.
Spoilers meant you couldn’t tell him because spoilers means a future with him. A future where you, Y/N Y/L/N, marry the Doctor. Just like both of you have always hoped.
Your phone rings and you pull it out of your pocket only to see it silent. “Sorry, it’s mine.” The younger you shakes her phone before reading her message. “Rose is ready to be picked up, Doctor.”
Oh, Rose. That’s a name you haven’t heard in a while.
For a moment, the thought crosses your head to tell them all everything. Everything bad that’s going to happen in the years to come and you want to, you truly do but your Doctor knows you all to well.
“Spoilers.” He whispers in your ear and presses a kiss to your temple that you thought went unnoticed by everyone.
“We better get going, then.” Her Doctor stands up and reaches a hand out for her, which she happily takes to help herself up. They don’t drop the hold for a few moments.
As the 5 of you make your way back to the TARDIS of the younger Doctor, you walk in silence. “I’m glad we did this.” You say out loud and receive 4 different smiles, 4 different emotions, two of hope, one of pure love, and one you know well enough to only describe as budding with questions.
The TARDIS even looked younger as the youngest Y/N and Doctor start to clamber inside, his hand resting a top her shoulder to keep her close and upon seeing the gesture, you become aware of your own Doctor being so close to you, his shoulder pressed right against yours.
His touch always had been your comfort, hadn’t it?
The departing Doctor looks back at you and his heart warms seeing you happy. Your happiness was all he ever wanted. “You’re fantastic.” He tells you, much like your Doctor had almost every day during that regeneration. He glances to his Y/N and his smile widens more. “You both are fantastic.” In the TARDIS they finally go and the doors close before the you and your two doctors watch them disappear.
“Time to get you back to your Y/N then?” Your Doctor claps the last Doctor on his shoulder before slinging his arm over your shoulders, pulling you closer to him as you walk to the TARDIS side by side to another.
He hums, kicking his feet out extra far when he walks and as you reach the TARDIS you huff. “Alright Doctor, out with it. What’s wrong?”
“What?” Your Doctor asks in confusion and you pat his chest with the back of your hand.
“Not you. Him.” You turn to the other Doctor. “You’ve had a weird look on your face since before we left the café, so out with it.”
He looks at you with your arms crossed, your ring unintentionally on display once again. “Who is it?” He asks again and you sigh.
“Doctor you know I can’t-“
“No, I know. Spoilers.” He interrupts you, running his hand up and down his neck. “But you know, if you tell me who you married, after I leave here, I won’t remember.” You hesitate, giving him a look of uncertainty. “You know, paradoxes and all that.” He smirks stepping closer to you.
Paradoxes. Right, none of you would remember this. He wouldn’t know and you wouldn’t screw anything up.
“Alright Doctor.” You nod before turning around and grabbing your Doctor’s lapels and pulling his lips to yours. His arms wrap around you to pull you close and you can feel his lips curl with a smile moments before you separate.
His soft green eyes stare into yours before he gently kisses your forehead, keeping his arms wrapped around you. You were so lost in your Doctor, you almost forgot about the other one.
He was staring at the two of you with such an intensity, it was almost hard to pretend he wasn’t there. It took you a moment of studying his features before you see the clenched jaw he wore and you laugh quietly.
“Don’t be jealous, Doctor.” You tell him, well aware of the puppy eyes your Doctor was giving you for losing your attention.
The other Doctor almost scoffs. “I’m not jealous. I’m him!”
“And I’m you.” Your Doctor adds and you smack his chest again.
“And I’m Y/N.” You add needlessly once again before turning in the Doctor’s hold to lean against his chest with his arms still around you. “And your Y/N is still inside that big beautiful blue box waiting for you to be by her side when she wakes and to stay by her side always. She loves you Doctor.” You look behind you to your Doctor for your next words. “She’s always loved you and she always will.” The Doctor presses his lips to your again as you cup his cheek, bringing him closer.
A TARDIS door closed softly right before you and the Doctor separate. He holds you tight, resting his head on your shoulder as the TARDIS slowly disappears before your eyes.
“He really won’t remember that kiss? Or me telling him that we married?” You ask the Doctor as the two of you walk hand in hand to the TARDIS and the Doctor holds the door open for you with a head shake.
“No, he will not. None of them will.”
“But will we?” You weren’t really sure how this all works. The Doctor tries to explain how the paradox cancels out the memories, leaving only the most recent people to retain the memories. “Do you ever wonder how many times we’ve met future us and can’t remember it?”
“Oh, I try not to think about it.” He shrugs before a cheeky grin appears. You know, paradoxes-“
“Paradoxes and all that! Yes, Doctor, I get it.” You smile at him. He returns the smile before beginning to work the TARDIS out of the alley. “You know, before the last you arrived, I thought you were that TARDIS noise I could hear from blocks away. I thought you were leaving without me for a moment.”
He gasps, holding a hand to his chest. “I would never! You’d kill me if I ever did that, not that I would ever.” He reaches a hand out to you and you grab it, hugging it as tight as you could. “I love you too much to ever leave you.” He whispers before kissing the top of your head.
“I love you too, Doctor.” You whisper back before the TARDIS starts, taking you both to your next adventure.

author's note: welcome to the chapter that i have been WAITING FOR!! i've had this chapter in mind for months and now there time is finally here!! that being said, i am very, very sorry for what you are about to read

The dance club melted away. The interior of the Williams-Pond living room came into view. The four of you were sitting on the couch in front of the television, a bad reality show playing at full volume. You rested a bowl of custard on your lap, all of you dipping cod fish fingers into it to recreate the first dish she consumed (and enjoyed because there were many she ate and despised) when she regenerated into her eleventh face.
“Yeah,” the Doctor nodded. “It’s okay.”
“What are you all doing?” Ryan questioned in reference to the food the four of you were sharing.
“We,” The Doctor prepped for the inevitable confusion/disgust. “Are eating fish fingers and custard.”
“You’re eating what and what?” Yaz gasped while Graham quietly gagged.
“Fish fingers and custard, I’ll have you know, is an absolute delicacy!”
The Doctor turned her back to them with a mask of indignation. Really, she just wanted to have a moment to herself before the storm that was about to happen in front of them. Every moment after that dance was one more moment towards the last day the Doctor had with you. Your time together was almost like a hill. The journey up was long, arduous, but from the top, you feel invincible—all it takes is a single misstep for you to tumble down the other side.

“If I had a restaurant,” The Doctor mumbled with a mouthful of fish fingers. “This would be all I’d serve.”
“Yeah right,” Amy scoffed. “You running a restaurant.”
“I’ve run restaurants before. Who do you think invented the Yorkshire pudding?”
Rory chuckled at first, but then his face loosened with realization. “You didn’t.”
The Doctor held a fish finger covered in a massive dollop of custard. “Pudding yet savory. Sound familiar?”
The four of you were meant to observe the black cubes that were scattered around almost an entire year ago. In all that time, they’d done nothing but end up as paperweights or something to throw into the trash when you don’t have the space anymore. After day 113, you had about given up on trying to figure them out in favor of maintaining your sanity.
“Mr. Pond,” Amy took the bowl from the Doctor’s hand when it was practically empty. “Come help me put these away?”
You saw her plan before it was even fully in motion. Amy wasn’t as slick as she liked to think, but she was definitely as persistent as she made herself out to be.
You hadn’t told the Doctor how you felt yet. In that time, though, you’d gotten better at being around him without your tongue becoming lead in your mouth. Every so often, you’d fumble through a conversation by the skin of your teeth, but those interactions were becoming far and few between. You’d even gotten back into your routine of going at each other’s throats, only to you, it felt less feral and more playful. You were happy with what you had with him, platonic or otherwise.
Regardless of your contentment with your relationship with the Doctor, you knew that Amy was not. She took any and every chance she got to let you know that you needed to get it together and tell him. If there was even the possibility of a moment where she could get the two of you alone, she manipulated the scene so that she had the two of you right where she wanted you. At that time, she was forcing Rory and herself out of the room so they could “clean the dishes together” as if it wasn’t an easy, one-person task. Most times, though, those manipulations ended in failure. Either you chickened out or the Doctor couldn't stand by you long enough for you to get a word out.
“Well,” The Doctor said with an abrupt jump off the couch. “I should get going. I told Kate that I would discuss the cubes again with her soon.”
“Do you have to go just yet? I mean, the cubes haven’t done anything, right?” You pretended to be blasé about it, but you really wanted him to stay a few extra moments. “And they still have a couple contestants left if you wanna, you know, finish watching before you have to go.”
The Doctor looked like he was contemplating his next move before returning to his place next to you. “Alright, I suppose I can stay until the end of the episode. You know, I’m really starting to see the appeal of these reality TV shows. They’re all so... real! With real people and real things that happen to those real people!”
You sucked in a large breath through your teeth, “I hate to break it to you, Doctor, but most of those shows are scripted. The people are real but…”
The Doctor’s face practically fell, and a pang of slight guilt filled your system, “Really? Even the American one with the dancing children and the mean lady?”
“I think the trauma from that show was real, just not the drama.”
“Oh, look at you,” The Doctor rejoiced with a clap. “Rhyming! I must be wearing off on you, aren’t I? Next thing you know, you’ll be making those puns you hate so much.”
“Oh, shut it,” You giggled, pressing your shoulder to his in a show of affection. “I don’t hate puns, I just hate yours.”
“So you say, but I think that you’re starting to like starshine!” The Doctor surmised.
If you admitted that you really were starting to like that nickname, the Doctor would never let you hear the end of it. If he found out that it made your heart beat just a little bit faster, he would boast until something else gathered his attention, then continue once he remembered. Sometimes you weighed the cost of having to live with the bragging against without, just so you could hear the nickname just a bit more. Pride overruled your choice in the end.
“Did you really invent the Yorkshire pudding? Or are you just messing again?” You asked out of genuine curiosity and a hint of attempted diversion.
“No, I really did! I also made the popsicles but some child from California beat me to the patent,” The Doctor’s tone got surprisingly serious for a beat. “I still hold a grudge against Frank Epperson to this very day.”
That same desire to learn more about the Doctor reappeared after its short-lived dormancy. Instead of the interest in the Doctor’s sad past, you wanted to know the small things. All the times the Doctor said something outlandish, you would brush it off as another one of his idiosyncrasies. Now, you would be happy with any little piece you could get. “What else have you done, huh? What? Were you D.B. Cooper too? Banksy?”
“I actually was Banksy, yes, so you can be sure that these cubes weren’t me.”

Graham gasped, “You weren’t kidding about that?”

“Seriously?” You gaped. “We’ve known each other– what? Eight years now?”
“And what a wonderful eight years it’s been!” The Doctor exclaimed, trying to keep the sadness at bay.
Despite having spent so much time together in the past year, what with the cubes and all, you knew that the Doctor was starting to miss the three of you. He was beginning to understand that your adventures wouldn’t be as frequent as they had once been. Adulthood, real adulthood with bills and jobs and responsibilities, crept up on you. You weren’t able to drop everything at the sound of the TARDIS’s engines to galavant across alien planets. It sucked, but that was just the reality of your situation.
That being said, you were a little bit okay with the cubes appearing on Earth. It meant that the Doctor wasn’t popping off in his box to fly away for however many months, only to return with the offer of meeting Stevie Nicks in the 70s. He was there, present, with all of you in all your adulthood glory. He was impatient as all hell during your time together, but he stayed. Even if it was just for a year, which in the grand scheme of his life was nothing more than a blip, it meant a lot to you.
“And in those eight years you didn’t tell us any of this?”
“Well, who knows?” The Doctor shrugged. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you all of it. Maybe even get into my time as a ghostwriter for Nancy Drew! And at one point the Rainbow Magic series but please do not give that information to anyone.”
“Don’t worry I won’t,” You laughed. Your hand inched towards the Doctor’s, and from the corner of your eye, you could see that the Doctor noticed. His hand remained where it had been and stayed there when you put yours on his. “And I would really like to hear all of it one day.”
The Doctor’s fingers stilled in yours but didn’t make a move to retract them. You watched as they shifted beneath yours. His thumb brushed against the back of your hand, leaving a trail of warmth in its wake.
You’d fallen into the trap that Amy and River had set for you. Both of them telling you that the Doctor had feelings for you made you believe it too. So did how you and the Doctor danced together that night at Club Tredecim. When he relaxed in your arms, when you felt the beat of his hearts against your chest, it felt right.
You considered that you were deluding yourself; love can do that to a person. But even if you were wrong, you would rather be that than live with the thought of what might have been, even if it would hurt like hell. You wanted to choose to love the Doctor, and you hoped that if he felt the same, he would choose to love you back.
“Listen, I-” But you didn’t want to talk anymore. Maybe the term 'now or never' was obsolete when you're a time traveler, but...
Your lips just barely ghosted the Doctor’s. They were soft, warm, and completely different from how you thought they’d feel. They also weren’t moving.
It was incredibly difficult to peel your lips from the Doctor’s. Not because you loved the kiss, even though you did- but because you already knew what you would see when you pulled away: the Doctor, his face contorted in an expression of shock, confusion, and the emotion that broke you as much as it might him, sorrow.
The Doctor’s mouth did that thing, the thing where it bobbed like a fish. You used to love that face. It meant that you were able to catch the Doctor with something that not even he could predict. And to see it right there in front of you meant that he didn’t see this coming. It meant that he didn’t feel what you felt. You made a mistake. This was wrong. You were wrong.
“I-” You could feel your heart trying to crawl up your throat. “S-Shit, I- I thought that- I wasn’t- Fuck, I’m so sorry-”
“Y/N, plea-” Why did it hurt more for him to use your real name?
“No, don’t! D-Don’t, um, I- I should go-!”
You were scrambling in every sense. You were struggling to rip the blanket the four of you shared from your body. It clung to you, the fabric sticking to your skin like a fucking parasite. When you finally managed, you couldn’t even jam your shoes on without almost tripping over the rug while doing it. And all the while, you were just saying words in no particular order. Whatever came to mind first, you said it. It didn’t matter if it made sense. Nothing needed to, because nothing did.
“W-Wow, so, I’m just- Gotta- I should- I’m so sorry,” The tears had already reached your chin, but you didn’t even remember feeling them until one dropped onto your hand. You frantically wiped it off with the sleeve of your jacket that you were heaving on. “I knew I didn’t- Why would I deserve it-?”
“Hey, wait, don’t say-”
“I should’ve just left it alone- Shit! Where the fuck are my keys?” You cried out.
“What’s going-” Amy came out from the kitchen following the sudden eruption of noise.
“Sorry!” You babbled so that Amy didn’t have enough time to take in the situation. “It’s, um, work emergency!”
“What-? But-”
“Gotta go, I love you! Amy! I love you, Amy!”
You didn’t wait for Amy’s reply but heard her shout at the Doctor through the door, “What did you do?”
The isolation of your car only brought you mild security. You didn’t feel any kind of safety until you sped down the street, further and further away from Amy’s house and the fucking blue box parked out front. Even looking at her, the roof especially, was like looking at a treasured photograph, scratched and yellowed with age.
You knew you shouldn’t have been driving in those conditions. People got into accidents over lesser things than the inability to see through tears. You slowed to a halt in an empty parking space by the pavement. You felt bad for whoever lived in the houses surrounding you because if they looked outside their window, they’d see someone with tears streaking their cheeks. Someone hunched over the wheel while trying just to get a proper breath into their lungs.
Colors began to blur together, like sidewalk chalk in the rain. You couldn’t see any shapes through the screen of your tears, and the lines of the book you were trying to read were nothing but black blobs. Eventually, you just gave up trying to hold them back and slammed the book shut.
You squeezed your eyes tightly to push the building salt water out faster. If you forced them out, maybe you could be done and over with this crying fest. Even though people didn’t often come to the lake at this time, there was still the risk of someone deciding to have a sunset date. The last thing you wanted was for some people to walk up on you having a breakdown. It wasn’t even finals week yet, so you had no excuse, really.
The lake was always the one place on campus where you felt safe. You always sat in the pink chair because it gave you the best west-facing view for when the sun went down.
You could think there. Breathe. And you needed nothing more than to take several thousand deep breaths after the afternoon that you had.
The day hadn’t started so horrible, but when you were meant to meet up with your partner, you’d been ambushed with a conversation that you really didn’t want to have in the student lounge. When you had asked to go somewhere perhaps a little quieter, he refused, saying that if you did, you would find some excuse to rush off. You’d say that you had a huge essay due in the morning that couldn’t wait or that your professor’s office hours were going to be over soon. Worst of all was that he might have been right.
You’d hoped that going to your favorite spot might give your mind a little more clarity, but it was still cluttered with the exact words from him that repeated over and over.
“Excuse- Ow!”
One word from an unknown source, and you sprang into action. The book you’d closed was suddenly launched at your unsuspecting target. You didn’t even see his face before he crumpled to the ground after a direct hit to the forehead. You only caught a quick glimpse of gray hair before your adrenaline died, and reason was resurrected.
You’d just fucking hit an old guy.
Regret flooded through you in an instant. “Oh, my- Shit! Fuck, I’m so sorry, sir!”
You ran towards the man to help him up, but he was already rising to his feet.
“It-It’s alright!” His voice was heavy with an accent. What was it? You were so discombobulated, but it was right on the top of your tongue.
“I’m sorry, I-I just got scared!” Was it Irish?
“It’s quite fine, I assure-” Or one from Yorkshire?
“I didn’t hurt you too much, did I?” Geordie?
“No, not at all,” Oh. Oh, how could you miss it? Your own best friend was Scottish, you should’ve been able to spot that from a mile away. “Really, I’m alright. Are you?”
You blinked blankly, “What?”
“Well, I was coming here to see the, um, the sunset. A colleague of mine who works here says it’s one of the most gorgeous sights they’ve ever seen,” The man explained with a few fatigued huffs. “Wanted to see it for myself, but… I heard you crying.”
“Oh,” You said before breaking off into a groan. You slapped the palms of your hands to your face, the tears that weren’t even dry yet seeping into your skin. “Oh, that’s so nice of you. And I hit you with a book, oh my God!”
“Really, I’m fine,” The man brushed off some of the sand from his jacket, which you noticed was torn at the left shoulder. He saw you eyeing the rip, “Ah, this. I was– well, I was trying to grab some nuggets from the cafeteria. Apparently the volleyball players on the women’s team are pretty aggressive when it comes to those.”
You hesitantly snickered, “They’re pretty vicious, aren’t they?”
“Indeed,” The man agreed. He pulled out a black wallet with an ID inside. He presented it to you for a few seconds before stuffing it into his pocket. “Dr. John Smith. I lecture at St. Luke’s University in Bristol. I’m here for a conference but just, you know, wanted to see the lake.”
“I bet you didn’t expect to be attacked twice,” You murmured guiltily. “I’m Y/N, I’m just a student here. I should let you-”
“You never answered my question.”
You noted a slight shaking in his legs while he uprighted himself. “Do you wanna sit down?”
Dr. Smith mentally weighed his options but eventually followed you to the array of painted wooden beach chairs dug deep into the sand.
“So,” Dr. Smith started once he was seated in the yellow chair next to yours. “What’s got you so upset?”
You bit your bottom lip while trying to think of how to say this. You were never the best at these kinds of things, but you hoped that talking to someone with no prior opinion of you– if you overlooked throwing a hardcover novel at his head– might make it a little easier. “I don't know. Nothing big, just… love? I guess? Or lack of, maybe?”
“Ahh, love,” Dr. Smith sighed dolefully. “I know all about that.”
“Yeah?”
“Of course,” He shrugged passively. “I’ve lived a long life. I’ve fallen in love many times, but… Well, there’s always one that sticks with you, isn’t there? Sometimes, it’s your first love and others will be the one you lost. But there’s always one.”
You weren’t sure if you had had that yet. Yeah, there were romances that you looked at fondly, but you couldn’t pinpoint the one that stuck out above the rest. If you had to, you might say this one. So far, it’s been the one that left you the most hollowed out once it was over. You hoped that would change someday.
“I’ll tell you my tragic love story if you tell me yours.”
You instantly wanted to put the words back into your mouth. This man was a complete stranger to you. You couldn’t just say shit like that and expect him to–
Dr. Smith was laughing. And it didn’t seem like he was shocked by your retort, not at all. He was laughing like someone who would expect this kind of behavior from you, not some ignorant to your dry wit. “O-Okay! I’ll take you up on that.
“There was someone. A long time ago. We both traveled together, you see. At first, we didn’t like each other. We were always fighting, driving our friends who traveled with us to the brink of madness. But then that was because we were so similar. Too similar. The two of us might as well have been mirrors of one another. And that… I think that made both of us terrified. More so myself than them- I'm not so sure about that now- but that was because I knew they could hurt me… One look at them smiling the brightest I’d ever seen them and I knew. So, I started running. Then they did too. We ran in opposite directions to the point that when I finally decided I could turn around… I couldn’t see them anymore. I’d lost them.”
“That sounds like something I would do. Well, I guess it sounds like something I have done,” You swallowed the cry that was building in your throat. Dr. Smith was waiting patiently next to you, but you could sense his anticipation. “Running, I mean. That’s kinda how my last relationship ended. And some of my other ones too. We were close to getting real, I think. We were talking about after graduation and life and it just… I started throwing myself into my work. He said that I was doing it because I was afraid. That I was a coward, because I was trying to get away. Then, he said that…”
This was the blow that took you down. “That I deserve to be alone.”
You knew it wasn’t true, but it didn’t mean that those words didn’t try to tattoo themselves into your insides. The more you kept repeating it, the faster the ink dried. You were so desperately trying to stop yourself, but it wasn’t like the human brain was adept at listening to commands.
“And I know he was just mad-!”
“Doesn’t matter,” Dr. Smith interrupted. “No one deserves to be alone. No one deserves to be told that. Whoever told you that is a complete idiot. A total moron! Should be ashamed of himself!”
“But he wasn’t wrong. At least, not about me being scared.”
The truth was that this was a pattern, and one you didn’t even mean to continue. Most times, when you got like this, the relationship fizzled out on its own, like a campfire that didn’t get poked enough. This was the first one that ended up in an explosion with fiery debris. You’d felt horrible on all accounts, regardless of whether or not the end was incendiary, but you didn’t have to confront yourself with your inadequacies until someone pointed them out. You didn’t have to force yourself to come to the conclusion that you really were terrified.
“I had a friend once who said that love was a choice,” Dr. Smith began. His eyes remained fixed on the water, but you could see he was more present than he wanted to appear. “She had said it to my star… Well, suffice it to say that I spent a very long time trying to figure out what that meant. If I could have chosen not to love them, I would. It might have saved us both the pain. But then, I understood. You choose love despite the pain, because there always will be in the end. As dark as that sounds, it’s true. And I’ll always… I’ll always wonder how things might have been different if I made another decision.”
That was really a beautiful way to look at it… But was it actually that easy? It didn’t feel like the entirety of love could be defined as something someone can choose. When you were with some of your exes, you didn’t feel like there was any decision to make. There was only one option in front of you, and it was one you were comfortable making time and time again.
Maybe you just hadn’t found a love worth choosing yet. That was a nice thought.
“Do you still love them?” You spotted the lack of a ring on his left hand.
Dr. Smith smiled wistfully, “I do.”
“Do you know if they’re still out there?” You wondered.
“I haven’t seen them in years,” Dr. Smith shook his head woefully. “They’re gone from my life.”
“Mmm,” You hummed. “Not gone then.”
“Excuse me?”
“They might still be out there. By some beautiful miracle, it might not be too late to reconcile. I know it’s probably just hopefulness but… Hope is a good thing, isn’t it?”
Dr. Smith smiled, reaching his eyes, “That it is.”
“Do you know what I think?” You asked gently.
“What’s that?”
“I think that if life ever hands you that miracle and you get the chance to see them again, you should tell them– nothing else! You should tell them ‘I choose to love you.’”
Dr. Smith pulled his eyes away from the lake to look at you. His eyes were questioning, but you would understand that his words were not. He said back, “I choose to love you.”
“Exactly!” You nodded excitedly. “They’ll understand, I just know it.”
You heard someone shout your name from the direction of the dorms. You recognized it as your roommate’s but made no move to respond. She could wait one moment.
“Aren’t you going to go see your friend?” He asked with a slight head nod but not looking away.
His question went unanswered. You rolled out of your chair and dropped to your knees beside the arm of his chair. For a moment, you stared at him. You look in every curled lock of wild gray hair, every wrinkle, every speck of color inside the blue of his eyes beneath those bushy brows. Your hand fell delicately against the apple of his cheeks, sunken slightly from age. His skin wasn’t soft like it had been before, but it was a welcoming sensation all the same.
“It was him,” You whispered. “Wasn’t it?”
"Maybe," Dr. Smith- the Doctor acknowledged.
"I should've noticed," You chastised yourself, your lips curled into themselves to keep a sob inside. It didn't work. "I-I should've noticed that it was him. I know him… I just… I should have known it was him that day and maybe…"
The Doctor brought his hand to yours. It felt so different from the Doctor you knew, but then, you'd never touched this Doctor's hand. You wouldn't ever really know what it felt like. You'd have to be content with only the idea of how it might have been to hold his hand. "Give yourself some credit. You were hurting."
He was so much older. You knew the Doctor had completely different faces when he regenerated, but this… If it weren't for the eyes, and if it weren't for the gift of memory, you never would have even known. You might have lived the rest of your life thinking that this man was no more than a stranger passing by. Perhaps the Doctor just got his timing wrong again.
You had seen the Doctor’s previous faces. You remembered how all eleven of them looked, and this one never appeared in TARDIS files. This face was new. He must have regenerated into him. And that meant there were probably years worth of things that he’d gone through. You wanted to know what those things were, who he’d met, but you needed to know if he had been alone through it all. You couldn’t be there, but you prayed upon the stars that he forsook his stubbornness and offered companionship to some lucky girl despite everything you said.
“He looks so tired.”
You heard your roommate again, this time more insistent. You couldn’t stay in this moment forever. That’s what she said, without having to say more than your name.
“Just… can I hear him say it before I go?”
You would never see this face again, and you only wanted to hear him call you, “Starshine.”
Trying to bite back a choked, pathetic mixture of a laugh and a cry and failing, you lowered yourself back into your seat to the exact position you’d been in before. Even when you slipped back into the ignorance of the memory, the imprint of his cheek against your hand wouldn’t leave you. You turned your head to see your roommate with bags from the cafeteria. In an act of kindness, she said she’d grab you both dinner and some ice cream to dig into from the convenience store. “That’s my friend. I should–”
When you looked back to tell Dr. Smith you needed to go, the yellow beach chair was empty. You didn’t see him anywhere nearby, and there didn’t even seem to be any trace that he was there with you at all; it was like he had just up and vanished.
“Hey!” Your roommate greeted you. Her eyebrows furrowed at your concerned expression. “Everything alright?”
“Um,” The fresh tears that weren’t there at the time dripped into the corner of your mouth. The saltiness tasted like regret. “Y-Yeah. Fine. So, what’d you get?”

“That lake…” Graham muttered. “I know that lake. I’ve seen it before.”
“Gamma Pictoris,” Yaz stated, turning to the Doctor. “You accidentally took us there when we were trying to get to Gamma Pictoris. We went to the wrong place. This place.”
“It was just as beautiful as they said it was… The TARDIS took me there,” The Doctor began, not looking at anyone. “Right before I transformed into this face… I guess it was a good thing I was already going through the regeneration process because that book really hurt!”
She was laughing, but there was nothing comedic in her smile. There was centuries of grief for the love that she never got to save. When she looked at the face before this one, she saw it in his smile too. All that mourning, but never really knowing what for. Because the worst part about losing you was that there was no finality. She’d lost so many before you and more after, but she knew where they were. Even if it was in death… or abandonment, she knew.
In some wry, cruel fashion, the Doctor never had an ending with you.
“Guess she took me there to remind me.”
“Remind you of what, Doc?” Graham asked.
To keep looking for that ending. “I have to make a phone call.”
The Doctor rushed to her feet, making a swift exit while the emerging image of Manhattan appeared behind the glass.

My life was decided for me. Everything about me was rewritten, reprogramed, to be something out of my control.
The dying girl.
I never wanted to be the dying girl.
How terrifying to be labeled something so ironic, so final. Finding out my label wasn’t supposed to be a part of the plan. But here I am doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing: dying.
The Doctor – the only good thing to come out of me discovering my destiny – he should be here. He would want to be here. He would need to be here.
But with me on my deathbed, I want to tell you how I got here. Perhaps it’s just to stall and see if the Doctor will appear to say goodbye. Knowing him he’s probably spending every last second trying to find a cure.
With a life predestined for me, I want to tell you about the things that fought against it.
The Doctor. The fiancé. The zybanium watch.

Introduction
Hello! I’m Rosa (aka crazymadravenclaw) and, well, I write. I’ve been writing since forever, but I’ve only now decided to upload my stuff. So... I mostly write fics based on the Supernatural, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Marvel fandoms, but very little of what I write actually makes the cut and gets on here. I’d love to get to read your opinion on my works, and thanks in advance to anyone who likes/reblogs them. It quite literally gives me life.
