Time for another villain-saves-the-hero story, except this time it’s ~1800 words of pure Flystep angst. Herald x m!Sidestep, Herald POV. Tw: drowning (though no one dies, I promise), mentions of guns but nothing detailed.
Here is the awful, terrifying truth: you are going to drown, and you’re going to do it alone.
You don’t even know why. When these people took you – Hollow Ground’s, maybe, but you don’t know, you just don’t know – they didn’t kill you. They cuffed you to a railing in the docks, and sat back as if waiting for someone. And you expected to be bait for the Rangers, and you tried to smile, because you knew they would come for you.
But they didn’t. Nexus did.
And the figure who stalks your nightmares tore through your captors like a bullet through cardboard. It’s like they opened a cage expecting a housecat and realised too late that they unleashed a tiger. You don’t know why they used you as bait for him; you just know they couldn’t stop him. Couldn’t stop him as he scattered their unconscious bodies across the docks, a lightning-flash of silver-white armour.
Until he did stop. Because the woman guarding you saw her fellows falling. She yelled until Nexus turned to look at her.
Then she ripped the section of railing you were chained to out of the ground with Enhanced strength, and hurled it and you into the sea.
