Holier Than Thou

yeah...

Angels' language can not be understood by humans, that is why (for the convience of any humans reading this) all Angel language will be translated to English, or whatever other language you are reading this in.

- Your Author, Elio

====

Elio was surprised when they were called by the Council of Wings to their temple. The Council of Wings was made up of six of the highest ranking Seraphim. Mostly concerned with relations between Heaven and Hell, they wanted to take time out of their day to speak with a lowly angel.

Elio's four wings fluttered nervously as they walked into the large temple of the Council's chamber. If they were a human their heart would've been racing as as they nervously glanced up at the many eyed forms of the Ophanim guards.

Walking down the halls illuminated only by starry torches they made their way to the Meeting Room. Where the podiums of the six immense Seraphim almost made Elio pass out. On the front of the podiums were the names of the presiding angels.

Agiel, a Seraph of Intelligence.

Jehoel, a Seraph of Fire.

Matriel, a Seraph of Rain. Who replaced the Seraph of Art, Uriel after they had been cast into Hell for an unknown reason.

Michael, a Seraph of War and second-in-command in Heaven's army.

Raphael, a Seraph of Healing

And finally Gabriel, the highest angel second only to god themselves, and the general of Heaven's army.

Elio had to resist every urge to kneel and begin praying before the Seraphim, knowing that doing so would only make them look foolish and probably cause them to become a laughingstock for the next one hundred years.

Instead they simply waved slowly, the Serpahim simply looking down at them expressionlessly. At least, they thought they were expressionless. When in the presence of a lower ranking angel, the Seraphim kept their eyes covered with their wings, completely hiding their faces from any onlookers. The only exception to this being Matriel, who was looking down at Elio with tired eyes.

“Elio,” Agiel began, “we have called you here today because, we have an assignment for you.”

Elio perked up at that. Only the best angels got sent on assignments to Earth, the higher ups were finally noticing their potential! Maybe after a few years, they could get sent on missions to Hell! Well... maybe a few years would be to soon for that.

“Yes my honors,” they replied, bowing their head slightly, “what assignments do you have for me?”

“We have noticed a lack of faith in the humans on Earth, many are beginning to reject their faith in us and term to harmful vices for comfort instead,” Agiel continued, causing Elio to cringe at the mention of vices. Poor humans.

“We believe that being comforted by an angel would help strengthen their faith, and cause them to abandon the harmful paths they have set for themselves.”

Elio pondered this for a bit, bringing one of their four arms to their chin as they thought.

“But your honors, why me? Surely there are many more qualified angels out there for this assignment.” Elio asked, their excitement being dwarfed by their fear.

“We feel you are the most human angel we have, you can empathize with these creatures and their experiences.” Matriel explained, causing Elio to wince. It... wasn't a good thing for an angel to be described as 'human-like'. It meant their fellow angels saw them as messy and imperfect, and Elio already had their own self worth issues to deal with.

“W-What time will I have to leave?”

“Sunrise the next morning,” Matriel replied. Meaning Elio would have just under twenty four hours to prepare.

“That will be all, you are dismissed.” Matriel finished, Elio giving a salute before turning and exiting the Temple. If they were human they would have let go a breath they didn't even know they were holding.
