Do you have any tips for aspiring artists? :0

just draw a lot and draw the things you love. make sure you enjoy drawing, art is not something that should stress you or make you feel like you’re not good enough. try to learn from other artists as much as you can, but don’t compare yourself to them. In every art piece that you like, try to find what it is that you like about it, and what you can learn from it. ♥ and don’t give up if you feel like your art is being ignored, getting people to see your work takes a lot of time. make the art that only you can make! and good luck!

Do you have any tips on submitting your art online/ or in general to sell commissions?

submitting your art: just keep doing it, and block people who insult your work if they really cross a line, but try looking for useful critique tucked in between the horrible words! be it Nasty or Constructive critique, make it work for you so you can improve- the best flip off to haters is your gradual improvement and the knowledge that their words only made you more formidable!

commissions: if you’re gonna be doing paypal transactions make sure to do it via their invoice system! paypal’s been strict with its ToS lately but also the invoices help give you a record of what exactly you wanted to sell and for how much, and if a dispute comes up you can, in the most literal sense, pull up the receipts to protect yourself!

art tips post

for all the artists following me

draw fast. it’ll look messy for a long time but you’ll improve faster than if you spend 4 hours on every drawing

if you draw in pencil and have a habit of erasing all of your mistakes, try drawing in pen or marker. i know it’s scary but it’ll help in the long run (i’m speaking from experience)

try different methods and mediums but don’t worry about mastering any of them, just have fun

if you’re not rich, buy art supplies from the dollar store, not the art store (seriously. i go through a sketchbook about once a month and i’d rather spend $4 on one than $15)

there’s no wrong way to learn. you can copy other people’s art if you want to, just don’t post it

DO NOT worry about having a consistent style. do not. just draw however you want

if you want to make original characters then do it. don’t worry about if they’re original, or a good design, or if they have an accompanying story. make sonic ocs. do it. it’s fun and it’s not hurting anyone

try not to kill your back. stand up and stretch once in a while

make a folder and save all of your favorite arts for inspiration

draw from life. draw your dog. draw your teachers. draw your desk. draw your own hands (seriously that’s the best way to get better at drawing hands)

in general, drawing from life or a photo is better than drawing from a diagram

draw whatever you want. draw youtubers if you like youtubers. draw undertale if you like undertale. when i was a kid i drew nothing but shadow the hedgehog and horses. everyone deserves to draw what they want without being mocked, and if people start making fun of you, block them and keep drawing

don’t expect to get any notes at first. don’t let it discourage you. if you want validation go show your art to your mom or your friends or your teacher or your grandma

take breaks, but don’t give up.

Love your art! Have any tips for other artists?

Thank you love! The most important thing I can tell you, is ……

DRAW. WHAT. YOU. WANT.

Draw what makes you happy, draw the way you want. There is no wrong way, no wrong style, no expectations. Go at your own pace. And take any criticism with a fistful of salt. Bypass the grain and just… salt your fries. haha.

And find the difference between constructive criticism, and someone just hating on art because it’s not their cup of tea.

REFERENCESUse References. They help tremendously, Google images is your friend. NOW, it has been stained that TRACING is frowned upon. But quite honestly? That’s how I learned. I didn’t have a teacher or guide, my art classes in school only really touched on superficial basics. Don’t claim the work as your own if you do trace, let it be known that you’re learning. There’s a term for this, MUSCLE MEMORY. You are creating muscle memory in your hand, arm, fingers and your mind, to remember how to draw that line, what way this or that curve, how long, short, slow, quick, etc.

That’s why people say to draw in Pen so you have to force yourself to be more precise. And draw at least ONE thing a day, even if it’s a doodle of like.. a flower or something. Muscle Memory is key.

InspirationYou can take inspiration from anywhere! Blend styles, take elements of one thing and combine it with others if you so wish!

If someone starts claiming your art looks like “so and so’s”, just.. matter of factually state, they’re an inspiration. Because lets be honest, when we take inspiration, we’re experimenting. And if you really want to draw like them, there is nothing wrong with that, LOTS of artists do it, you’d be surprised how similar art styles can be.  Every artist sees a style they like and take from that. (the only REAL issue is if you outright copy work line for line and claim it as original, but most know better)And… Before you know it, you’ll notice you’re developing your own style and work flow. It happens Naturally. Styles shift all the time subconsciously. (mine keeps changing, and quite honestly it can get a little annoying haha. One day i’ll find a style I’ll like permanently.)

SHAPES. Find out what shapes your drawing is made out of, or GOING to be made out of, it helps in the long run to make your illustration more presentable. This is including space, dimension, and perspective. ie: Where is your character. how are they filling up the area. (this is something I’m still having trouble with because I’m a dweeb and just draw front faced stuff, like character sheets haha. Branch out)

Something else you can do.REVISIT OLD WORKS. This means. Keep everything. Even if you’re not proud of a piece, Date it. Sign it. Keep it.

Love Your Art! Have Any Tips For Other Artists?

You can look back, See how much you’ve improved. What you learned. How you are finding your own style.

Love Your Art! Have Any Tips For Other Artists?

Even if you can’t seem to see you’ve made much progress, it’s there! I promise!

Love Your Art! Have Any Tips For Other Artists?

This is my first Digital drawing on the left. Done with a mouse, so you know you don’t NEED a tablet.. (they’re just hella nice), I’m still struggling immensely with digital, but I am getting there, more now than in the last ten years since I’m actually letting myself work on it to improve.

Be Patient with Yourselfif you’re not improving as quickly as someone else, that’s OK. Don’t fret.Maybe you do something better than they do, and vice versa.  Having a friend who does bodies really well, and say, like me, you’re good at faces, you can teach each other. haha. (or combine your efforts to makes something beautiful… or hideous if you decide to be a troll like me)

And last of all. Love your work, and hold onto the reason you love to create.

Sorry for the Loooooong reply….and hopefully it was … a little helpful. I wanted to try and take a slightly different approach to this answer than what I have seen. (and sorry it took so long to get back to ya, I’ve been both busy, and thinking about how I wanted to put this together)

A slow improvement

I’m not sure how to begin this, but I have been feeling a lot better than how I did these past 3 months. The 20th of this month (May) will be the 4th month since my grandpa’s passing. It has not been easy. I did not have the motivation to do anything, I would cry until my tear ducts felt dry, and I have been feeling numb/unemotional. I came to the realization that my grandpa would not want me to live my life like this. He would want me to continue to accomplish my goals and be happy. My grandpa lived a very long and eventful life of 86 years. I will forever miss him dearly and wish to call him and talk to him about everything. But I believe that we will see each other again in another life, God-willing.

Scars on your body are reminders of all the trees you climbed on and fell, of the first time you rode a bike by yourself, of all the other times when you fell and you hurt yourself. When you see them, you remember the blood, the pain and the tears. But then you realise that you love those scars because they remind you that you were a child, sloppy, playful, full of life child. So why don't you start loving the scars on your soul too? They are reminder that you loved, that you had your heart broken, that you cried and yelled and screamed, but also that you survived all the pain you had felt. So start cherishing those scars, they are nothing else but the proof that you are fighter and surviver. You survived and you got stronger. You are stronger. Love yourself and love your scars. They make you unique.
