Why is is so goddamn hard to get some fucking knee braces. I can barely fucking walk. Fuck the health system in this goddamn country.

So I got home to my parents place yesterday to find out that my doctors request for custom knee braces was denied by my insurance and I’m devastated. I’ve tried so many prefabricated braces and either they don’t fit or don’t do enough and because I don’t have documented loss of muscle tone or a deformity in my knees they denied it. Im majorly hypermobile and my thighs don’t fit into prefabricated braces so unless there’s like a fucking miracle prefabricated brace that I haven’t tried idk what to do. My knees slam back randomly and it hurts so bad, my knees are seriously unstable, and just overall they suck. Fuck insurance why do they get to decide what’s medically necessary

Whelp my knee braces got denied again...

Why the fuck does insurance get to dictate what I need vs don’t need?????

I just want to be able to walk without being in pain. Is that really so much to ask??

Hi! This is an URGENT REQUEST as I cannot go a day without insulin. Currently I am unemployed through no fault of my own. I do not have insurance so I will have to use GoodRx. My insulin is called Afrezza. It costs around $450-$490 depending on the pharmacy I go to. I’m calling for community aid to help me get insulin because the healthcare system failed me.

I hope to raise the full amount today so I can administer my insulin as time is running out.

A lot of Doctors really want to be able to have a "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" sign, but since that is illegal they found a work around.

Remember the wide spread Opioid addiction as well as over prescribing Benzos and Amphetamines to children was caused by doctors writing perscriptiins.

Maybe one day they will just legalize drugs and you won't need a fucking doctor to tell you you have the privilege to have your pain treated, or gender affirmed, or any other body autonomy.

yeah so basically when you decide to transition you have to get the approval of cisgender people and tell them deeply personal ideas and history and possible futures you desire oh and also how do you masturbate and what do you think about? also please be in therapy for 1,000 years and talk to therapists and psychiatrists no we don’t really care that this is all expensive as fuck and could easily be funding your transition for months instead. oh and you have to live as your preferred gender before getting hormones. what do you mean this seems cruel and you’re getting harassed? oh you didn’t show signs of dysphoria as a child or teenager and you don’t really have severe dysphoria now we’re sorry but we can’t prescribe you hormones. go home now faggot

Health Insurance USA reminders

Friendly reminder you only have about one month left to look at health insurance plans for open enrollment. (ends middle of January in 2024). www.healthcare.gov is the best place to shop for insurance plans.

Take it from someone who has a master's degree in public health, here's some tips to make sure you're paying not an arm and leg.

DEDUCTIBLE: Ideally you want it 3k or less PER PERSON. It's the amount of money you pay before insurance decides "hey, let's pay that for you". So this would be things (depending on the exact nature of the plan) like - imaging studies (xrays, ct scans, mris), labwork, specific medical tests (cardiology like stress test, hearing test, sleep tests, etc.)

PREMIUM: this is how much you're paying OUT OF POCKET PER MONTH. A lot of places are trying to advertise big savings. If you're lower income (this depends entirely on your individual state), you might be eligible for up to $100-300 in savings for this (I was lucky and found a plan that only costs $20 a month per these savings).

COPAYS: This is how much you pay the doctor, per visit. BE WARNED! Many plans advertise a low premium (MONTHLY) payment, HOWEVER the deductibles are often EXTREMELY high (5k+) and/or the copays are ridiculously expensive (I've seen them as high as $75-150+ per visit per doctor)

FILTERING PLANS: A lot of places now come with the option of filtering plans out per doctor and/or specific meds you want covered by insurance. Be warned, more rare drugs (ex: specific drugs for specific conditions like narcolepsy drugs) tend to come with more expensive plans since these meds are used solely to treat these uncommon (and/or rare) conditions.

Please, please, please be careful when picking plans. I see so many people blindly pick the $0 a month premium plan but then end up stunned they have to pay $75+ copay per visit. PLEASE look at these fine details.

Edit bc I'm seeing a lot of confused international reblogs: this was posted because of Hurricane Milton absolutely demolishing Florida this week after Helene went through and because US insurance agencies are kind of assholes. Stay safe out there and thanks for signal boosting!
