Internalized Misogyny - Tumblr Posts
Okay but I’ve been thinking about the massive backlash over Channing Tatum being cast as Gambit, and just about the Tatum-hate in general, and I’m just gonna say it: I think it’s sexist.
Remember when Channing Tatum first came onto the scene and he was in that Nicholas Sparks movie and then he was in Magic Mike and women were all about the Channing Tatum life? Then you got men saying, “Blegghh Channing Tatum sucks, he’s not a good actor, he’s a dumb jock-type, what about real actors”
I think the main driving force behind that original wave of men saying, “Channing Tatum is stupid, only girls like him because he’s hot, he’s not even a good actor, blah blah blah” was backlash against him because women liked him. It’s the same reason Dirty Dancing is sneered at by film critics and labeled a dumb chick flick, but Saturday Night Fever is classic Serious Cinema.
Channing Tatum isn’t a bad actor, he gave critically acclaimed performances in Foxcatcher and Magic Mike both. He’s not stupid: (That all-female Ghostbusters you’re so psyched about? He’s one of the main producers and backers. He also produced Earth Made of Glass with his wife, which is a major, award-winning documentary about the Rwandan genocide, 21 Jump Street and the sequel, which had massive box office grosses, and Magic Mike was literally based on his life. It was his idea, his story, and he co-wrote). He’s not an idiot by any means at all, and the fact that he has ADD and severe dyslexia make the whole “stupid buff guy” stereotype people associate with him kinda sketchy.
Anyway, after men started lashing out against him because he was popular with women (and Lord forbid something women like be considered quality), then you got women saying, “Well, I just don’t think Channing Tatum is attractive.” or “I don’t like Channing Tatum, I like ~real actors~” and it was all permeated with an underlayer of “…not like those dumb, bimbo other girls.” It’s the same shit as, “I just don’t get along with women, I get along with boys better.” It’s a subtle, maybe even unconscious way of saying, “I think like you, boys, please accept me. I’m better than those girls, please don’t treat me the way you treat them.”
TL;DR: Channing Tatum is a recovering alcoholic and former sex worker with ADD and severe dyslexia who is frequently unfairly lambasted just because he has the audacity to be popular with women.

here’s a gif of him feeding a puppy soup. please examine your life choices.
Yes. The thing besides bad grammar that will get me to click out of a fic really quickly is when the female characters who express attraction to or interest in the male main love interest are super annoying or simpering and fawning and don’t know the real guy. Whereas the male main character’s attraction is Soulful and Profound and Respectful. Fuck that shit.
I absolutely hate it when slash fics feel like they gotta tear down the character’s previous relationship with a girl in some way. Like it doesn’t matter if they were canonically having some truly fantastic sex just a few episodes ago, dude’s gonna hook up in the fic with another dude and it’ll be all “it was never this good with HER” or some shit about how it feels more ~right~ somehow.
It’s vaguely biphobic, misogynistic, and invalidates what were often perfectly healthy relationships with women while subconsciously perpetuating the idea that you can’t love more than one person in your lifetime. That girl you were absolutely in love with a few months ago? Yeah that was nice but THIS love with your new boyfriend is obviously SO MUCH MORE REAL.
Why is this necessary? Why can’t you just respect these relationships and the female characters who were an important part of this male character’s life? As a writer, you’re in control of the world you’re building, so they literally pose no threat to you. Grow up.
why the fuck does a 16 year old need to get her NIPPLES DONE ?????
I cant imagine signing off on my underage child getting their nipples augmented????
I feel like I didnt have so many strong feelings about plastic surgery until recently with the rise of young people and literally children getting it done more and more
If you’re an adult and want some sort of plastic surgery or fillers or something, you can make that decision for yourself and I hope that you’re doing it with a healthy mindset
but I cant get on board with kids getting plastic surgery like this
Why can't guys like this just...admit they hate half our species and go...inflict themselves on blowup dolls or something. No living woman should have to deal with a cruel misogynist who GETS OFF ON IT AND IS PROUD OF IT.
What I find to be especially distressing is how common these phrases come up--as the taglines men use on their porn blogs, as captioned "sexy" art on their blogs. It seems that a lot of men nowadays not only really, really hate women, but they're AWARE OF that hatred and enjoy eroticizing it.
The depressing thing is I see a lot of women with these blog taglines too. Like. Sometimes I wonder if the images on the blog are actually her images, or if it's a man using a woman as a persona, or if her male s/o is making her say those things.
That is one of many kinks I find genuinely disturbing--the complete dehumanization, the violent demands to carve up the female body to appeal to an unnatural and harsh physical ideal, the constant referring to women's bodies and body parts as only existing for male "use" like women are things.
But to see women parrot these things back on their blogs as the captions for their own nude or sexy photos is really depressing. How little do you love yourself, that you get off on the idea of being an object someone else can use? An object that they use, that they see as being no better than a disposal sexy toilet ?

@germanpatriarch I cropped the fucking photoshopped model out of this post bc that mishmash of the warp and blur tool would have needed a tag for body horror
Your dick isn’t so majestic and incredible that it would justify even the work of trimming pubes for it, much less any of that other stuff. I’m not even gonna critique it piece by piece because…wow. Honestly, ladies, if he even implies that your body hair isn’t natural and awesome, just invest in a nice skintech vibrator or something. it doesn’t conk out after 4 seconds and it whines less, too.

Have you ever seen a twitter thread (or, in this case, two!) that so perfectly expressed everything you’d felt over months and months of harassment persistent? With all credit to @blackblobyellowcone, who is clearly amazing and completely gets it– not just why us women write and read the erotica that we do, but the history behind the censorship we, as a gender, have experienced. Bravo.
thinking about how the art industry banned darja bajagić’s ‘art piece’ of a woman with a swastika but gave her stunned positive reviews like she’s some kind of thought rebel for taking a photo from a gore website of the real life decapitated victim‘s head from a misogynist murder her murderer posted on the site with the description ‘dead whore’ because she rejected his advances, and bajagić putting the picture of the decapitated head next to pictures of the heads of cum covered porn stars, putting a red cartoon blood puddle beneath the pic of the murder victim and white cum puddles beneath the pics of the performers, then calling the whole thing an art installation. thinking about how she used pics of the faces of female victims of pedophile rapists and making a pornographic collage with these kids faces over a large picture of a naked young girl showing her vulva while smiling provocatively. thinking about how bajagić says in an interview she was exposed to porn from a young age on and how her friend was murdered and her mother made her stay in after that and watched true crime shows with her. how one of her first art school projects was asking a man in a park to masturbate for her right then and there and filmed it. how bajagić thinks her professor who advised her to seek therapy when seeing her art works full of violent misogyny as well as ppl in uni offering to pay for it because they cared about her were just ignorant and thinks everyone thinking critically about this is ‘puritanical’. thinking of how boyd rice, with whom bajagić posed together, has openly declared himself a misogynist and said he thinks women shouldnt have the same rights to which no one bat an eye but once he involved nazi themes in his works the calls to cancel him became audible.
thinking about how misogyny is the form of systematic hate that is the least taken seriously in this society and women’s real life bodies and dignities are considered playgrounds to be experimented on. of how we’re taught to participate in our own dehumanization because it’s unavoidable anyway so better get used to it, right? thinking of how we’re not even sacred in violent death and our mutilated corpses continue being fetishised by the gawking masses🙃
thinking of how even tho i know im right, typing this out loud makes me feel ridiculous and like a petty hag looking for a fight when the opposite is the truth and i just want to stop seeing this shit everywhere around me like a casual aesthetic.
Sending this to 2020 me regarding my dislike for Rachel Elizabeth Dare
little hot take but it makes me so irritated when people end up dunking on girl characters simply bc they ‘stopped their ship’ when honestly it’s not even their fault it’s the writers 😭😭 be nicer to girl characters in general 💀
Enough judging women or calling them "weak and stupid" for being in love with and devoted to a man, even if that man is toxic. Enough scolding women for expressing our feelings, enough calling them "bad for feminism."
This is just another form of misogyny, another way of holding women to your standards.
I SUPPORT THE ROMANTIC LOVERGIRLS! 🩷
I don't know why this has to be spelled out, but if you are arguing that there are biases against women in society (true) because of the patriarchy, and how these biases are unconscious and therefore present even in the most progressive spaces...
You cannot simultaneously argue that unconscious transphobic biases are not present, and people don't unconsciously treat trans men closer to women then they do men.
I feel the need to defend Aphrodite. She gets a lot of shit and I find it to be massively unfair. She is consistently characterized as an irredeemable bitchy mean girl, when in reality she isn’t any worse than ANY of the other gods. Many of the male gods have done worse than her and they are less slandered and ridiculed than her. Keep in mind every single god was designed to have flaws to them, so that they would better reflect humanity, plus many things that are significant wrongdoings in our eyes now we’re normalized at the time. About the Hephaestus thing, I’m going to be honest… I don’t care. Gods in all mythologies have affairs all the time, Greek gods especially. Her extramarital escapades are nothing special. Plus, her marriage to Hephaestus was an arranged one that she had no choice in. It was just to get the other gods to not go after her because she was taken. I’m gonna say it… I think a lot of the Aphrodite hate is residual misogyny/internalized misogyny and everyone else just goes along with it because it’s the popular opinion.
Being a teen girl who's secure in their own body is such a funny experience because I'm not ashamed of my face but my mother is and she obsesses over every pore and pimple on my skin and calls my blackheads ugly and says girls can't have armpit hair cause I don't have armpit hair so go shave or you'll look like a man also get a rebond and straighten your hair actually thin out your hair don't forget to put some make-up on and a little bit of lipstick cause what will your future boyfriend think of you actually no what will everyone else think of you and then they're surprised when teen girls develop an eating disorder and wanna kill themselves because they're not pretty enough
