the air in the room was thick as fog as you and seungmin sat on the couch next to each other. you were staring blankly into the carpet, not daring to look him in the eyes. you sat in silence for the past thirty minutes, trying to process everything both of you said. you didn’t regret your words, no. you were trying to be honest, but seeing seungmin cry in front of you for the first time in your three-year relationship made you feel like the worst person on the planet. you had never in your life thought you would break someone’s heart, yet here you were.
“how long ago?” he asked when you told him you wanted to break up. you cocked your head, wanting him to specify. he noticed your confused look and asked again in a quiet, strained voice. “how long ago have you stopped loving me?”
you never thought about saying this out loud, though it wasn’t entirely false. you loved seungmin - he played a huge part in your life, being your first real partner after a round of random people who left you after two dates. seungmin was always sweet and even if he seemed distant and cold at first, you knew deep down he cared, maybe even a bit too much sometimes. but time verified your feelings, causing you to lose any romantic interest in him. you felt terrible about it, really. but you knew that staying in this relationship would eventually destroy both of you completely.
“do you really wanna break up?” seungmin asked, breaking the silence. you took a sharp breath, afraid of speaking up, but you knew it was inevitable. “i do,” you simply responded, your heart pounding. seungmin scoffed at that and you noticed with the corner of your eye as he wiped the tears from his cheeks. “that’s not the ‘i do’ i wanted to hear from you,” he whispered. your heart sunk at the sentence and you finally broke, letting the tears fall from your eyes. you felt like a complete asshole. how could you break his heart? “why are you crying?” he stood up and faced you. you looked up at him and behind your blurry vision was seungmin with a red face covered in tears - a sight you never wanted to see. his brows were furrowed and he looked almost angry. “stop acting like a baby, it was your decision to break up with me,” he continued, his flat tone making you shiver. “you wanna leave me? fine, i don’t care. go pack your fucking stuff and leave!” he hissed, his voice getting louder with each word until he was screaming, more tears making its way down his face and neck. you simply did as you were told, trying not to worsen the whole situation. so this is the end, you thought to yourself while stuffing your clothes into the suitcase. you made your way to the door without looking at him - you couldn’t bear the sight of his broken figure. “i’m sorry,” you whispered, opening the door and leaving his life for good.
