I think storytelling is important because it is the origin of hope. All these characters we love - flawed and anxious and broken - have shit explode in their face and just keep going.

Star Trek has a myriad of themes but its main message is, still, hope. Kirk doesn't believe in no-win scenarios. Spock spends his entire life fighting an identity battle and ends up being an advocate for reunification. Picard gets consumed by the Borg and still goes on to order his fucking Earl Grey.

Star Wars has it, too. Obi-Wan loses everything: his family, his padawan, his place in the world. So he builds himself a new purpose in watching over Luke. Hell, even Anakin is motivating as a villain who could have chosen to give up but somehow didn't.

I think this is why these stories resonate with so many people. We are subtly reminded of the possibility to reinvent ourselves. Even if the odds state plainly that the Dominion War would be lost, even if the forces at play are bigger than us. We tell each other stories and we believe.

Having a normal one

I am once again thinking about how in The Naked Time, Spock has an emotional breakdown after contracting the virus and cries about the regret he feels for not loving his human mother vs his shame he feels for his ongoing friendship with Kirk, but before he contracts the virus, Spock finds LOVE MANKIND written on the wall. And it's been written and discussed to death about what it means, I know this, but it's telling that Spock not only loves in spite of his Vulcan upbringing and continued adherence to their customs but that he holds regret and shame deep down inside because the love is still there, regardless.

Whereas Kirk likewise has his virus-induced breakdown over the opposite: his self-inflicted pressure to not love an individual, either due to fear of distraction from duty, losing his position as captain due to the ethical conundrum of "How can a captain date one of their crew?" (no, I do not know the details of how Starfleet manages crew relationships, but I'm assuming rank is an issue, especially where captains are concerned), or even the unspoken taboo of the show's production era, his sexual orientation, hence his focusing on the ship as the only safe and constant outlet for his love. But after this, Kirk finds SINNER REPENT written on the wall, as if to say his altruism isn't the full truth, as if what he desires is what he denies even with the virus lowering his inhibitions.

And like my god. What foils to each other! How damned telling the literal writing on the wall is for them! I am going to eat my fucking sweater!

17. Any OC OTPs?…Anyone that knows me knows I’m the queen of OTPs… XD; but ummm. Maybe I’ll start with favorites. Let’s see two of my favorites at least one character is spoiler. But uuum… Other than those two, or three, (later: or four…) I kinda like Tsuname and Ril’siiya’s relationship. They’re both bubbly people who go through a lot of trouble and I think they can both relate to being the annoying one most people don’t like, so when they’re together it’s almost like they have a safe spot to just be themselves around each other, because they can’t annoy each other with the things that normally annoy other people. XD;

Also from Aliens there’s Crang and Kitch. They’re kind of childish and may not fully understand what’s going on, but they’re pure and cute and have helped each other before in the past I think. XD;

One that developed somewhat recently is Kenneth (long-necked blue/purple reptile alien, not to be confused with an angsty blonde ice boy from Zenith named Kenith… still not over how I accidentally made his name mirror Zenith’s name XDDD; ) and Lyna. Lyna is a short but tough cat-ish alien and has none of Kenneth’s playing the tough guy, telling him to rest when he’s injured. I find their dynamic interesting because he’s super tall plus his long neck and she’s this short thing that has the power to boss him around. XD

But ummm… a lot of my other OTPs are characters that mature later and get together. Like Angri and Aidren from Torn Apart are a disaster at first, but especially when Angri matures and comes to accept herself, they work a lot better. XD;

Or APG and Lily from Knights & Lilies. At first it’s a one-sided crush on APG’s end, but eventually when Lily is older, she comes to understand what she did to him by not understanding his premature feelings, and feels bad about it. So yeah they’re cute when they’re older, too.

The pairings in Twin Scars also don’t really happen until later. Tetsuya and Hiyura’s relationship isn’t really explored until the very end, possibly to be continued if the sequel ever gets off the ground. I think Tetsuya may have tried to interact with her in the past, but Hiyura was always quick to shut him down before the end of the story.

Romance isn’t really a part of the main story of TS, it’s mostly about the sisters and Isura’s friends and Hiyura’s turnaround. In general most of the romance arcs happen post-story in sequels. Like Isura may have met Kirk in the main story briefly, but it’s only when they’re older that they meet again and the relationship is explored more in Kirk’s story. I think Kirk’s story would be fourth in the series if it ever finishes, but it’s one of the ones I’m most excited to write/draw. XD I already have part of it comic-boarded out elsewhere, that’s fun… based off the snippet I wrote for him a long time ago. I haven’t really had the change to explore either of the TS pairings as an OTP much though, so it’s hard to say they’re anywhere close to a favorite actually. Though their stories definitely intrigue me, especially Kirk’s. XD;

As far as other OTPs… I have a number of parent couples that are/were cute, or tragic pairings…  One totally light pairing from KnL are Lily’s parents. They still act like teens around one another even though they’re 40 or almost 40 respectively. XDThe parents of Sleepi and her sisters from TA were also fairly cute, though that one’s a bit sad.And of course from Aliens Tsunne (Tsuname’s older brother) and Sz’nami were cute. Though that one is also sad.. XD; Tsunne helped Sz’nami become more bold and to stand up to opposition instead of just taking it. He taught her how to use her wave abilities stronger and helped her gain confidence. She in turn supported him when the pressures of being the son of the village chieftain got to be too much. They were good for each other while they lasted, I think. XD

Oh! One last pairing I almost forgot about (I’m sorry this post is so long I was only gonna list favorites then I got carried away) XDD;; Is Trunt and Flint from Lands of Seven. Flint is an angsty thing and Trunt is more steady. They kind of start out like a fighting couple where Trunt figures out Flint’s secret and kind of holds it against her, but Flint ends up liking him and I think it’s mutual. XD; And Trunt keeps her secret (even though it’s one of those secrets that probably everyone actually knows), and I’m not even 100% sure how they get from weird argumentative couple to more than that, but I kind of find them cute. XD;

Well, there’s plenty more, but either don’t rise to the level of favorite or I’m not really on them right now so development is hard to come by. But yeah, I have a lot of pairings. XD;

I read a fic that was literally just this but forgot what it was called 😔

Ok so last night I had a dream about startrek, it started during amok time pretty much going the same way except, T'pring didn't do the challenge they got married.

Only remember bits and pieces during this point but Kirk is heartbroken, he's not letting Spock know (duh) which isn't a problem because Spock is oblivious about Kirk's feelings for him.

I forgot to mention that Spock does have feelings for him and didn't want to marry T'pring but he was convinced that Kirk doesn't love him,whilst also doing this whole "It's Vulcan way" so he decided to just do it.

Anyways he went through Pon Farr with T'pring and ended up getting her pregnant

This is another point where memory doesn't like me, but anyway they have a son (his name was changing like every half a second but ima call him Telek since that's one of the only ones I remember)

ANYWAYS this child just sorta exists in the back of Kirk's mind for like 2-3 years till T'pring's work (I forget what she does but it's like similar circumstances to her being on the enterprise in snw) lines up with the enterprise, and she brought Telek with her.

So they meet the kid

Kirk is trying so hard rn but it's like that's Spock's child with the wife he didn't know he had so he's struggling.

Mccoy likes the kid and is doing a way better job of being normal towards him and T'pring ( whilst also comforting Kirk which I thought was really cute )

Anyways another time jump

T'pring dies.

This isn't even that much later cause Telek looked like 4.

I have no idea how she dies but she did, Spock is hurt but not like extremely?

Like he did care about her but he never really loved her and when they spoke it was really just him asking about Telek.

Anyways Kirk is like kinda happy about this but also very mad that he is happy about this because Spock's wife died and that's horrible so he's like trying to comfort Spock but it's kinda awkward because Kirk hated T'pring and they both know he hates her.

Anyways Kirk is like well he's not married anymore maybe nows my chance and Mccoy is like "She just died dude at least give the guy some time to grieve "

So Kirk does but like only for a month or so

and he's back to trying to court Spock, but Spock is still oblivious and thinks Kirk is just still trying to comfort him so it's not working that well. At some point Kirk decides fuck it I'll just tell him.

So Kirk invites Spock over for chess and partway through like thier second game ( gotta give him some time to work up the nerve) Kirk blurts it out.

And like at first Spock doesn't react so Kirk's like freaking out like "omg I just ruined our entire friendship " " why did I say that" " holy shit he hates me now doesn't he?? " all the while Spock is like fucking buffering because the guy he's been in love with for years just admitted loving him since like the first day they met and like ????? Holy shit?????.

Anyways Kirk started like apologizing to Spock which kinda snaps him out of his little trance and Spock is now the one freaking out cause he took to long to answer so he kinda panics and just like

leans over the chess board and like fuckin kisses him.

Anyways they're together (they also find out they are T'hy'la and it's really sweet)

And at some point ( not that much later come on its Spock and Kirk and they've been in love for years ) they get married and it's very sweet and they are both Telek's dads now and stuff and Mccoy is doing his whole " took you two long enough Jesus " but he's secretly stoked and not hiding it well.

Um anyways this is about were I woke up.

Its the most coherent dream (am I saying that right? ) I've ever had
