Looking at Link Post Majora’s Mask is Basically Staring Into the Abyss
Link is this smol child that’s survived stuff like the Shadow Temple and the Termina time loop. I feel like at some point he might just … stop caring.
Like, sure the stuff is scary but he has to do it anyway because he’s the HeroTM and what else is he going to do? Go home? He can’t go back to the Kokiri Forest and even if he did he wouldn’t fit in the space he once lived in. Not quite a man, not quite a child.
So he fights. He beats back the darkness no one else wants to touch.
He pushes himself through quest after mind scarring quest until one day being the paragon of Courage isn’t a matter of overcoming fear but just … abandoning the emotion all together. He becomes a battered, twisted version of the Hero of Hyrule he once was.
It gets to the point that villains laugh at the idea of this kid being their undoing until they see his eyes and just … freeze up.
Some villain: I’ll show you what true fear feels like!
Tiny Link with the gaze of a Redead: There’s no nightmare you can dream up that I haven’t already killed.
Villain:
Villain: *Backs away slowly and spends the rest of their lives looking over their shoulder*

"I'm... actually... afraid to meet him...
and to hear the reason why he wanted to disappear...
It might be because of... me..."

Majora’s Mask Link
Part of the Zelda 35th drawing.

I wanted to try new brushes and stuff, and I'm sure Skull Kid is my muse
Hello! It’s me again! Do you have anymore context or lore behind that comic you made of Link in Majora’s Mask and the aftermath of it? I believe you called it Repetition. I love that comic sm ♥️
Hi again! 🥰 Thanks so much, it’s one of my favourites too 💕 I frequently abandon comics because I get lost in the dialogue so it worked in my favour for having none haha.
I certainly do! I find MM is a very important part of Link’s Journey especially in the context of this AU.
To understand the emotional turmoil behind this you need to take into consideration how Link viewed his status as hero. Despite the time skips, Link in OoT is a child the entire time. When he is an “adult” he certainly sees a lot of death and destruction which would be harrowing especially considering how sheltered he was in the Forest. But at the end of it all, time is reset and all of those deaths and bloodshed that he sees the aftermath of are erased.
OoT could be perceived in his eyes as a complete win. As a child, to be a hero would be a mantle he would have fully enjoyed, and at the end of it he certainly had saved the day, no one was hurt. (barring of course characters like the Deku Tree ect but even he is reborn).
Then Termina happens. Link enters this world and despite his starting predicament it immediately becomes clear this place needs a hero. It’s his duty and his nature to help.
One of the key mechanics of the game is that you CANNOT get all the masks and complete all the quests in a three day cycle. One of my favourite examples that i reflect on is that you cannot continue the Anju/Kafei quest if you save the old woman on the first night. You have to decide which one to complete and let the other essentially fail.
Link is the kind of person who believes he needs to save everyone, that is his purpose and sacred duty. So every time he helps someone, he soon discovers that someone else suffers because of his actions. As a result he constantly resets the timeline. Over the course of the resets he takes details notes of everyones movements (Bomber’s Club notebook). His goal is to find a way to save everyone. He HAS to.
With each reset he becomes more frantic. He keeps failing people, he sees the moon fall again and again and feels the fear and anguish of all the people of Termina.
He is not the hero he is supposed to be and something inside breaks. He cannot move on until he accepts the harsh reality of being a hero. That you cannot save everyone. You must make hard decisions and make sacrifices.
He saves as many as he can and the Skull Kids give him the Fierce Deity Mask for their final “game”.
I see this particular Mask as an equal to Majora. It’s got the word Deity in it’s name so I don’t believe it is something that should be wielded by a mortal without consequences. It turns Link into a cold weapon and he succeeds in stopping the moon. When it is all over he is left empty. Despite the fact he has saved the town he cannot erase from his mind the people he was forced to sacrifice for the greater good. Every being in the world has a life, has feelings, has worth.
Anju is the one who breaks through to him and convinces him to remove the Mask. It takes an incredible amount of strength for him to remove the it and causes him great pain. The magic of the mask leaves a painful burn scar around his jaw and face where the edges of the mask met his skin and the markings leave bloody scars. He has a permanent reminder of this power he wielded and the price that was paid.

In the aftermath of Termina when he returns to his world, he no longer sees himself as a hero. He cannot escape the failures of his role. He values the life and happiness of everything. Time passes and he rebrands himself purely as a wandering warrior as opposed to a hero (a word he now despises).
Apart from the physical scarring there are still mental ticks that stay with him which do get better as he recovers with Zelda. The overuse of the Ocarina of course breaks his ability to perceive time properly. No force of magic should ever be treated lightly or without respect (there will always be consequences). He frequently has flashbacks from across the ages and sometimes struggles to discern ‘when’ he is. He is also hyper vigilant. He can’t always help but take note of the movements of the town, trying to memorise every step and action. Of course because he isn’t resetting time it’s fruitless and exhausting. He is trying to make predictions out of chaos. And of course he can’t sleep on the full moon, he cannot help but stand in silent vigil incase the moon shall fall again.
At the end of it all the main thing i like to do with Majora is challenge the meaning of ‘hero’. Everyone has a different definition of it. Link enters the conflict with a purely fairytale view of it which isn’t realistic. He is seen as one by those around him who can see who he truely is and what he achieved.
I personally believe that a true hero never sees themselves as one. They are people who simply try to do the right thing and ask nothing in return. No matter the size of the conflict.

The moon around Kitakami has been looking kind of strange lately

Linktober Shadow 2024: Day 4 - Ominous/Suspicious

I for one think it's an absolute crime that there isn't more art and stories about these two together.
I started this a while ago, so I'm not 100% happy with some of the line work in it, But overall I'm happy with how it came out.

Story time!
I collectively refer to these three drawings as "The Joke That Went Way Too Far". This is because they were never meant to be a serious fleshed out art piece, but then the drawing that is now my icon happened.
This whole story began with me being bored and deciding to do a quick rough drawing of majora as a Keaton. I was doing it mostly as a joke. I had no clue that this quick sh#tpost of a doodle would lead to me spending uncountable hours on a single art piece.
So anyways yeah these are 3 drawings of majora as a Keaton. The first one I drew uses the color palette from the original official art of majora, it's the one where the tails are all the same. The second one I drew uses the color palette from botw, so it has more hydrated colors. I spent more time on the detailing on that one. The last one I drew is the headshot. I originally started drawing it as a way to better visualize how the markings would look on a canine head. Somehow I found myself spending a truly ridiculous amount of time putting the most effort into shading I have ever done on it.
Looking back, I'm really glad that I ended up making these drawings. The two side profile drawings are super rough, but they were never meant to be fully finished art.
So I was looking through my art I made before I joined tumblr and remembered my ultimate masterpiece:

"You've met with a terrible goose, haven't you?"
Or
"It's a lovely morning in Termina, and you are a horrible mask."
Hi so I've fallen into mandalorian hell there's no saving me. I'm also having a crisis because episodes 7 and 8 stole my spine and there isn't a second season yet.
So anyways I was struck by a thought. So like mandalorians just up and adopt orphans and if a kid happens to impress them they have the kiddo become a mandalorian.
So let's assume a post majora's mask young hero of time Link ends up in the star wars universe.
...How fast would Link get adopted by mandalorians?
Dumb AU idea #2: Demise is a separate being from Ganondorf in ocarina of time, but is possessing Ganondorf. Demise can be removed from Ganondorf via the song of healing. Demise is turned into a mask and Ganondorf is reverted to how he was when demise possessed him: a child. Insert Link and Ganondorf going on adventures together and generally giving the royal guards nightmares and headaches here.
Another dumb AU idea, probably.
So the hero of time looks like the first hero from that one skyward sword manga right? So here's the dumb idea: the hero of time, years after his adventures and an adult once again, wakes up to the song of time ringing in his ears, in a place he doesn't recognize, and wearing a green tunic and red scarf that is definitely not his. That's when some people show up, see the hero of time in the first hero's garb, and immediately assume that he is in fact the first hero. They then drag him back to whatever strong hold they are holed up at or whatever. This leads the hero of time being force to pretend to be the first hero while figuring out what the hell is going on. Also the hero of time needing to restrain his burning desire to punch the goddesses hylia in the face.
Random notes:
Hylia doesn't recognize that the hero of time isn't the first hero, she identifies mortals by their souls and the hero of time does in fact have the soul of the first hero.
Hylia does notice the sudden "personally shift", especially how he keeps avoiding her and tenses up whenever she's around. She's worried for her hero and vows to figure out what's wrong and make it right. She's doing this with the best intentions, not realizing that it's only making the hero of time more stressed.
Link has all of his gear from his adventures and is not afraid to use them. He avoided using them at first out of fear of being found out, but eventually ends up realizing that saving people is way more important and just either deflects questions about his "new" gear or bullshits his way out of the situation.
The fierce diety isn't evil, and link using the mask could be used as the "identity reaveal"
Another option: the hero of time became the feirce diety after the fight with majora, and low key works with the goddess of time now. The goddess of time was pissed off when she finds out what the hero of time had been through, and decides that hylia obviously is NOT responsible enough to have a chosen hero and yoinks link. This of course opens up the possibility for the goddess of time showing up and giving hylia a stern lecture. Hijinks ensues.
This entire concept is perfect for angst and drama and yet here I am wanting to use it almost exclusively for hyjinx and Tomfoolery.
I just had a weird dream that could be a dumb au idea, probably.
So, the hero of time after his adventures gets transformed into the hero's shade. Not because he died or anything, he just got cursed or something and now is a stalfos. He spends his time at lonlon ranch helping out with stuff, and malon and her dad are used to his presence. One day link gets thrown through time to the future and now has to save hyrule once again. Que everyone being confused by why a snarky stalfos who is full to the brim with dad jokes is now saving the day.
Bonus points from the dream:
Malon and link are married. They got married pre link becoming the hero's shade, and she still loves her skelly husband.
Link is Zelda's cousin, I know this was important in the dream but I can't remember why.
The hero's shade becomes everyone's dad.
The vilan summons undead, and is trying to revive a dead god. After some time, the villain comes to believe that Link is the god they're trying to revive, and uses their magic on link. This breaks Link's curse, and link returns to being a hylian. After the ensuing battle, a newly "revived" Link finds himself trying to calm down his frantic allies and explain to them that he is actually their skeleton dad, but with organs.
Edit: there is now a part 2 of this nonsense.
My brain won't be quiet so have a part two to the "skeleton dad au" as I am now calling it until I can think of an actual name for it.
As the hero's shade, Link can transform into the golden wolf. He didn't know this at first, but once he realized he could he started using his wolf form quite often. Interestingly, after the curse is lifted and link is "revived", he is still able to transform into the golden wolf.
Malon is just as much of a gremlin as her husband. Case in point: at one point Malon decided it would be funny to try and squeeze herself into Link's ribcage. She didn't consult Link on if this plan was a good idea at any point. She of course gets stuck, and in the end Talon has to help the couple get out of the mess. Malon was -and still is- completely unrepentant. Link was horrified by the experience and refused to leave his wolf form for 2 weeks.
Link got cursed into the form of the hero's shade while protecting lon lon ranch from a demon. During the fight link lost an eye. When Link landed the final blow on the demon, a surge of dark magic knocked him to the ground and surrounded him. When the magic dispersed, Link's transformation was complete.
When Link woke up after getting cursed he had a full blown crisis. It took some time, but with Malon's help he learned how to cope with his curse, eventually embracing it. After the curse is lifted, it takes Link some time to get used to being a hylian again.
Link honestly has no clue where the armor he wears as the hero's shade came from. He never owned a set of armor like the shade's before getting cursed. It just kinda appeared on him when he got cursed. Furthermore, the armor can't be removed by Link or by anyone else.
Link is very guilty of skeleton puns. A rather infamous one of his is "humerus" jokes. He becomes known for pulling out his humerus while making a horrible pun like "well I think my jokes are pretty humerus." Everyone groans and tells him to stop but they all secretly love his puns and he knows it.
Once, when Link got truely upset with something someone said, he chucked one of his bones at the person's head. When the person in question asked what was that for, Link looked them dead in the eye and said "because that wasn't very humerus of you." He had indeed thrown his humerus. This becomes a reacuring event.
After the curse is broken, someone says something that would have normally earned them a humerus to the head. Link on instinct goes to grab his humerus, but instead finds his now fully reformed arm. Link can now only glare at his intended victim as he informs them that they are so unbelievably lucky that he can no longer chuck his bones at them.
Once, An unwanted suitor of Malon heard rumors of how her husband turned into a skeleton, and assumes that they mean Link died. He sees this as a chance to try and win Malon's heart, and sets out for the ranch. The man immediately starts showering Malon in "condolences for her loss" without giving her any room to correct him. The suitor is both oblivious to Malon's obvious displeasure aswell as the figure that had entered the ranch house. He doesn't notice that anything is amiss until a shadow falls over him and a cold, sharp hand digs into his shoulder. Moments later the man is running for his life from the ranch, a golden wolf nipping at his heels, and Malon leaning against the doorframe as she laughs uncontrollably.
Link at some point brings home a stalhorse and declares that they're keeping it. He names the stalhorse Stal-lion, much to Malon's glee and Talon's disbelief. Epona becames the best of friends with Stal-lion, and will kick you if you ever say anything mean about her friend.
If you just found this, here's a link to part 1

Keaton majora, but horror.
(Part 1 and part 2 for context)

Decided to combine the markings of the fierce diety's mask and majora's mask.

Majora has deemed that it is bath time for their kit. The kit is not amused about bath time.
Poor Link. First he gets in a fight with some monsters, and now he's getting covered in demon/possibly god slobber.
This is a continuation of some previous posts. You can find them here : [X] [X] [X]
Look, I know we all love Time being a dad/mentor to Twilight, but consider: Time being a dad to Wind. Time mentoring Wind. Heck, just give me an AU where the hero of time wakes up on outset island and becomes the hero of Wind's father figure.
Image when Aryel got kidnapped the hero of time dragging out all of his old gear and setting out with the hero of winds. Imagine the hero of time seeing Ganondorf and just groaning "oh not this sh*t again".
Imagine the hero of time telling Ganondorf and the king of red lions that they're both idiots.
Imagine the hero of time using the feirce diety's mask while defending the hero of winds.

Oh God oh Heck there's two of THEM-
