Regulus tried to pretend. But he’d never been that great of an actor. He tried to fool himself, knowing it was helpless.

He couldn’t pretend it didn’t hurt. After he and James had broken up, after a tumultuous relationship of 2 years, he had locked himself in his room for days. His friends had practically had to drag him out of bed to go to meals and classes after a week. 

And through all of this, somehow someway, James had survived. No. he hadn’t even survived, he had thrived.

He won more quidditch games after they broke up, he seemed lighter, brighter. Regulus often caught himself watching James at meals, gazing at his smile and wondering why he hadn’t been able to be the cause of it. James laughed more now. And he never glanced at the slytherin table,

Well, almost never.

A month after Regulus and James broke up, James had hearts in his eyes again. And he and Barty announced their relationship to the group.

Barty.

Regulus’ best friend of 6 years, his confidant and the one he had cried to the most over the breakup.

Regulus hadn’t handled the news well, screaming and crying and throwing things at Barty. Evan had to restrain him, holding him and telling Barty to leave the dorm.

The weeks following, Regulus slipped into a routine. Avoiding all human interaction entirely, he hardly went to meals- choosing to visit the kitchens in his breaks and late at night.

He kept his grades up, not wanting to face his teachers’ worry. He spent almost all of his time in the library: reading, drawing, sleeping, journaling, anything to keep his mind busy.

Because he was afraid of what he thought when he had the time.

What if Barty was better than him? What if Barty and James had been together even while Regulus and him were? What if Regulus just wasn’t enough? Or even worse, too much?

And, Regulus realized after a while, he actually missed James. He was still so in love with him that he had a hard time being angry sometimes. 

If Barty was what made James happy, then why couldn’t he be happy for him?

Maybe Regulus needed to move on, find someone new. He tried to go to parties, but everyone he attended, James and Barty were there. And those two always found a way to be the center of attention. 

Evan comforted him, knowing that though he and Barty had broken up a year before, he could somewhat sympathize with Regulus’ feeling of betrayal.

And when Regulus went home for the holidays, he accepted his parents rough teachings, he kept silent and let them think he would join them.

And when he ran away finally, no one had expected it. And no one knew where he went.

Regulus had escaped, he was free to live as he pleased, to think and breathe by himself without the eyes of others, the expectations.

When Regulus was older, laying in his bed alone late at night, he would think back to James and his relationship, wishing it had never ended but also so grateful it had.

someone humour me for a second: a marauders muggle au…but with wrestling. You have the storylines, the drama, the fights….Someone make this happen please (is there an overlap between wrestling and marauders fans?)

WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY “omg we deserve a prequel book about the marauders” WHEN FANFICTION IS RIGHT THERE AND YOU DONT HAVE TO PUT MONEY INTO A TERFS POCKET FOR READING IT!!!!!

This isn’t commonly known but one of the rings of hell is actually being in a fandom wherein the popular bloggers have the worst opinions known to man that everyone else parrots

i would like to say, liking the marauders era is like having ocs with content, BUT i would also like to say, dont just throw out things that we DO know about these chacters. i think as a fandom we need to reevaluate these characters and make lots of inferenes based on LINES AND THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE BOOKS. like I LOVEE aus and, if im being honest, the main reason i like this fandom is because im so bad at MAKING ocs, so these already have designs and names. BUT most of the chacter traits and stuff SHOULD be made up USING THE TEXT because that causes more accurate and nuanced characters. i feel like weve made conpletely new chacters and they lack depth now(obviously not ALL of the fandom and chacterizations). Theyre all so flat and its like everybody has to be either a perfect angel who has no blame at all and was just MADE to do those things(bully snape, be mean, petty, become/believe in death eaters, etc) OR theyre evil and we hate them and dont bat them a second glace. Like having these blank slats are fun, but also, please give these interesting and complex characters a little more thought for how you percieve them. let them be crazy, let them be bad people, let them be mean and bullies, let them be petty, let them be unreasonably kind, let them be soft, let them be haters, let them be self depricating, let them be self rightious, whatever as long as it fits for their canon charcter. my HUGEST annoyances with these are regulus, sirius, lily, remus, and james, people mischaracterize them SO much

Being honest y'all, I love a lot of what we've done with the fandom now and of recent(not all of it, don't get me started), but I was there for the early marauders fandom in the mid 2010's and I miss it sometimes 😞😞😞

Hi!!! I'm back with another mini rant for you guys. This is about the problems in our fandom relating to (mainly) the deatheaters. So I've been seeing two perspectives about barty, reg, and evan that I neither agree with. Before I start, just be kind and respectful to everyone with these perspectives, because we're all too mean to eachother and divided in this fandom. The first is kind of applied to every character which is, there's "no canon personalities or reason" behind these characters, and that everyone should be able to characterize however they want. I completely disagree with this, in the books we have SO MUCH content about the characters; ESPACIALLY barty, sirius, remus, james, lily, and reg, all of whom have canon characterizations. The others DO have stuff said about them, and we can use that stuff like we used to. With all of our characters, we must analyze them and think about how their actions reflect their personalities, beliefs, morals, etc. The main frustration is with (aside from wolfstar, but thats a whole other can of worms) the death eaters (barty, reg, and evan). People have characterized them as if they were FORCED to join and that they were secretly really good people. This brings me to the second perspective of this, people have been saying that we should absolutely HATE the death eaters and that it's stupid that they're popular. I think maybe these people are more (rightfully and I would agree) that people make them seem 'good' and specifically the whole issue of how out of character james and reg is. This is totally valid to be frustrated with the mischaracterizations of these characters and how it affects The Marauders + Lily. It's very annoying how people have turned reg into a second Lily, and then pushed Lily out of the way, when she makes SO much more sense. BUT BUT BUT, if these people are mad that characters who are villains and are HORRIBLE people are popular, I just have to ask if these people have been in other fandoms before? I just say that because villains are usually fan favourites in most fandoms. People like villains because they like that they do bad things, that they are morally grey, and literally just because it's fun. sometimes, it's annoying to like characters who are always good, and to characterize them other ways would be weird (im not talking about james being a bully or whatever, I'm talking about CRIMES). I don't think it would be a problem for our "villains" to be popular, as long as they ARE BAD. Stop making them babies who do no wrong. Stop pushing the main female character out of the way, for a ship that is out of character to the point where youre just making one character like another, (people make reg like lily, or james like barty, its weird)

I don't know, i just don't agree with barty, reg, and evan getting hate, when theyre not even being characterized right. The larger problem this stems from is just people making all of our characters OCs. Anyways, please everybody just be respectful to eachother, the block and uninterested buttons are right there(even though they can be quite stupid) I understand it's very very frustrating, but that's no excuse to be mean. And for those people who just characterize however they'd like (in the way of forgetting about things we know about them canonically because we "have no canon") please re-read the books or even watch the movies, and if you still don't care, please tag "out of character". I think it's really fun to interprate different, just not so much the character is unrecognized.

"What about Pettigrew?" Regulus asked, hesitantly voicing the thought he'd been keeping to himself for weeks.

Four pairs of eyes turned towards him.

"Reg, love, I-" Lily murmured softly, holding a nursing Harry in her arms.

"He would never," Sirius said, looking disgusted.

"Well, it has to be someone!" Regulus bust out, frustrated. They'd been at this for weeks, now. Trying to determine who was passing information to Voldemort. Who was close enough to them to know such crucial things, but sneaky enough to get away with it.

Of course, Regulus knew that a fair few people suspected him. The thought of it made him want to scream. The idea of betraying his husband and wife, not to mention his brother ad best friend, made him feel nauseous.

But Peter? He'd always been a bit sly. His Animagus was a rat, for Merlin's sake. And he'd been strangely absent lately...

"Have you seen him at meetings?" Remus asked thoughtfully, always the voice of reason.

"No," Regulus admitted. It was true. When he went to Death Eater meetings to spy, Peter was nowhere to be seen.

"I don't think he would do that," James murmured, eyes heavy with sadness. "I can't imagine..." a tear dropped to his cheek.

"He wouldn't," Sirius insisted, jaw set.

But as Regulus fell to the floor on October 31st, 1981, clutching the hands of Lily and James to his chest, screaming in agony at the sight of their lifeless bodies, he knew.

He was right.

And, allowing the anger to overflow within him, the loss and denial and feeling of utter despair and loneliness ripping through his very soul, he screamed as Sirius, who stumbled through the door with wide eyes.

"Do you believe me now?"

Barty Crouch Senior? She introduced him to his wife. Aberforth Dumbledore? She helped him start up the hog's head after they graduated. She's invited to every important social gathering, no matter who's hosting. She's a seasoned curse-breaker. She's lived through two world wars, influenza and Grindelwald. She remembers seeing a curse like that when she was thirty, now just hold still and she'll have you fixed in a jiffy. Literally nothing rocks her. She's almost a hundred and she's not having any of this Death Eater nonsense. She's 40 years older than tom riddle - she remembers him at Borgin and Burkes, she thought service was terribly slow. They ought to hire a new shop assistant. Did she ever tell you about the time she got lost in Albania? She taught defence one year. she's the sole reason Sirius wants to be a curse-breaker.
