I just realised that the rest of the world doesn’t know about one of my favourite New Year’s Eve in Germany things:
Angela Merkel getting out her shiny blazers for her speech.
They’re only for New Year’s Eve. The shiny Merkel is very rare and can only be spotted on the 31st of December.
I got to know her when the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan in 2011. She decided to ban nuclear power plants in a country that has had a few earthquakes historically. Including the decision-making process, my friends praised the German government.
These days I've enjoyed her plays in her domestic and international politics more than watching soccer matches. A lot of people around the world have had favorable opinions of Merkel.
We gonna miss you, Mummy Merkel.
