Napoli - Tumblr Posts

So im Italian, like said in description and most specific, southern Italian. From the city of Naples.
The story of our city, begins from the Odyssey or in the Tragedy of Orpheus and Euredyce. In the Odyssey the three sirens, Parthenope, Ligea and Laucosia, kill themselves because they couldnt kill Odysseus.
While in Orpheus and Euredyce, they were beated by Orpheus in singing skills so they killed themselves cuse of that.
Parthenope, drowns herself and the waters bring her body through the river Sebeto, arriving in the place where now there's Castel dell'Ovo, she was then the protector of the city that was built in the sea where her body was taken by the waves.
Here was built the statue of the siren. And thats why the city is not just called Naples, Napoli or Neapolis, but also Parthenope/Parthenopeas.

I will probably draw more of her and more about my culture.

The title of Cumaean Sibyl was actually from the high Italic priestess, who presided over the oracle of Apollo, and Hecate. located in the Magna Graecia city of Cuma . She carried out her oracular activity near Lake Avernus , in a cave known as the " Cave of the Sibyl " where the priestess, inspired by the divinity, transcribed her prophecies in hexameters on palm leaves which, at the end of the prediction, were mixed by the winds coming from the hundred openings of the cave, making the prophecies "sibylline", that is, difficult and uncertain to interpret. Her importance in the Italic world was equal to that of the famous oracle of Apollo of Delphi in Greece .
These Sibyls were young virgins, who were thought to be able to live longer than ordinary mortals (which is why they are sometimes depicted as decrepit old women), who performed divinatory activities , entering a state of trance ( furor ).
The etymology of the Italian Sibilla derives from the Latin Sibylla , which in turn refers to the ancient Greek Σῐ́βυλλᾰ ( Síbulla ). Although the hypothesis remains uncertain, going back to the Doric Σίοβολλα ( Síobolla ), it is hypothesized that its meaning can be found in the Attic Θεοβούλη ( Theoboúlē ), that is, “divine will”.
So here is a drawing for now

The Pulcinella mask, as we know it today, was invented in Acerra by the Capuan actor Silvio Fiorillo in the first decades of the seventeenth century , but his modern costume was invented in the nineteenth century by Antonio Petito . In fact, originally, the Fiorillo mask wore a bicorn hat (different from the current "sugar loaf" hat) and had a beard and moustache. The origins of Pulcinella, however, are much older. There are various hypotheses: some say he descends from "Pulcinello", a small chick due to his hooked nose; others maintain that a farmer from Acerra , Puccio d'Aniello, joined a company of wanderers passing through his town as a jester in the seventeenth century . Others, like Margarethe Bieber , go even further back in time to the 4th century BC and maintain that Pulcinella descends from Maccus , a character from the Roman Atellane. Maccus represented a type of servant with a long nose and a lumpy face with big cheeks, a prominent belly, who wore a shirt transformed into a loose white dress . The Atellane were a type of show of Oscan origin very popular in ancient Rome : we could compare them to today's vernacular or dialectal theatre, appreciated above all by a lower-class audience. Maccus represented now the silenus now the satyr, in some cases the type of servant with a long nose and a lumpy face, loose white shirt. He wore a half mask, like those of the comedians of the art, had a prominent belly and recited with a clucking voice .
Pulcinella is one of the most iconic masks of the Neapolitan commedia dell'arte, and his character is full of nuances and contradictions. He is known for his laziness and his insatiable voracity, he is always looking for food and would do anything for a plate of macaroni.
He is an ironic and cheeky character, who is not afraid to make fun of the powerful and to reveal the behind the scenes of society.
An opportunist who takes advantage of every opportunity, he is also a great chatterbox, always ready to tell stories and entertain the public.
Pulcinella represents both the defects and the qualities of the Neapolitan people: he is comical and tragic at the same time, capable of making people laugh and reflect, he is a reliable but also arrogant character, who always manages to get by despite the difficulties.
He is also considered a psychopomp 'spirit' sometimes, he takes the "Anime Pezzentelle" (the souls) to the other side

E poi stili, trend, location.
