Oc : Kerberos - Tumblr Posts

Progress shot on the worst bastard in Dogtown for wip wednesday š¼ donāt wanna show too much hehe

As promised, hereās my BARGHEST netrunner, Kerberos! š„ Think youāve met some real assholes in Dogtown? Got no ideaā¦

More Kerberos ā¼ļø heās so fun to draw!! Plus some info abt him Iām very obsessed with him rn :p
Kerberos isn't his real name, of course, just a netrunner alias, but his real name is nearly impossible to dig up. He's made sure of it. Once upon a time, he worked for Militech, as a part of the team attempting to revive Cynosure. While attempting to breach Cynosure's datafortresses, Kerberos was noticed by a rogue AI that had broken from containment and was brutally attacked, brought to the edge of death before being hospitalized. But he was hardly safe there. The revival was ultimately a failure, and Netwatch soon caught wind of it all. In a man bound to a hospital bed, they saw an easy target, but Kerberos wasn't going down without a fight. In his already dire state, he heavily overclocked his cyberdeck to kill the agents sent to assassinate him. A second brush with death, and yet he persisted. Netwatch backed off, and Kerberos spent the next 3 years recovering and dodging further assassination attempts until Dogtown was founded. A perfect opportunity. Among Hansen's ranks, Kerberos found himself invaluable with his knowledge of Cynosure, though the knowledge alone was all he would offer, refusing to be physically involved with anything the Colonel had planned.
Few have ever seen his face behind the mask. His two brushes with death left him looking less than presentable, and the shame and fear of his past have left him wishing he could leave that face behind all together.
Definitely expect to see more of him soon lol

I spend an inappropriate amount of time thinking about my cyberpunk ocs, so I figured I'd write a little about some of my design principles for making a cyberpunk character that fits well into the world! These are just some of the guidelines I use for making characters that helps me flesh them out better. This is something Iāve had the idea to do for a bit, but you all also seem to love my ocs which only furthers my insanity!! Thank you all for my interest in them, it makes me so happy š
-Basing around an npc
For both Kerberos and Garnett, I based their characters around npcs present in the game, but this only works well in specific cases. For both of their bases, these are characters without major significance. Garnett's base, the sniper commando in the Black Sapphire sniper nest, is an npc with no name, no reoccurrence, and no real significance outside the scene where you knock him out. While this npc can be killed, you kind of have to go out of your way to do so. This left me with a good blank slate of a character to work with! Even better, this npc has motivation I was able to use. V knocks him out, steals his gun, and he presumably faces the consequences of not detecting and dispatching an intruder. While not all of my cyberpunk ocs are based around npcs, I find that it can make things a lot easier and more fun!
-Connection to V
This is actually a principle my girlfriend came up with, and I think it's not only useful, but can also be really fucking funny. Connections to any existing character are fun to develop, but I personally find Vās connections to be most interesting. V's had an influence on the better part of Night City in one way or another, and probably on your ocs too! While this influence can be positive or negative, I think it's way funnier if it's negative. Thinking realistically though, how many people is V the antagonist to? For Garnett, she snatches his huge expensive gun and gets him demoted. He may not hate her (he's too damn nice) but she undoubtably makes his life harder. For Kerberos, V's ultimately the one that kills Slider, another powerful netrunner in Dogtown. This has no direct effect on him, but it sure sets his nerves on end, and influences his story further down the road. Of course, it can get a little unrealistic to have every one of your ocs have this sort of connection, but be real, V's fucking everywhere, and their actions in the grand scheme of things will have an effect on your oc somewhere. I find its funniest when two ocs that have had separate interactions with V get to talking and realize theyāve been fucked over by the same person š
-Finding your niche
Any oc, whether they're a truly original character in an original storyline, or a fan character like I'm discussing, has a distinct place they fit into their world. With cyberpunk, a pre existing universe with its own rigidities, there's a billion things to consider when trying to find just where an oc fits, but that's the fun part! Which existing characters do they know, which are their allies and which their enemies? Who do they work for currently, and who in the past? Where are they from? How'd they end up where they are now? And the all important question of why the fuck are they still in Night City There's a LOT to consider when keeping things realistic, but don't get ahead of yourself. It's cyberpunk, and realism shouldn't be all you're shooting for! If you're not finding quite the right spot, don't be afraid to change things a little! It's virtually impossible to stick to canon 100% when making ocs for anything, so you might as well do shit your own way.
-Personal pieces
Almost every major npc in cyberpunk has a custom weapon, and some have custom vehicles as well. Both of these factors, I feel, are as crucial as anything else when making a cyberpunk oc. In Night City, your iron and your wheels are second only to your life. A lot can be said about a character by the weapon they wield. Is this just something they use to protect themselves, or is their weapon something they treat as an extension of their body? A tool or their baby? The same goes for vehicles. Is this some barely functional hunk of metal that gets them around, or would they scream and cry over the smallest scratch? Garnett's custom weapon, "Houndstooth", a brass knuckle trench knife, isn't something he has a particular attachment to. Sure he named it, sure its saved his life once or twice, but to him, it's just a knife. His car on the other hand, "Courser", a highly customized Quadra type-66 640 TS, is absolutely everything to him. It gets graffitied and he clutches his chest like he's been shot. First adding these, they seemed like trivial details akin to fun facts to me, but the more I developed on them, the more they contributed to his character. I say every part is my favorite to develop, but there's something about the weapons and vehicles I have a ton of fun with.
Done reading? Thank you hehe ok go work on your ocs NOW!!
15 LINES
Rules: Post 15 lines (or less) of character dialog. You can include context for the scene if you wish!
@ouroboros-hideout tagged me for this!! Thanks boro!! I think posts like these r so fun!!!
These are all dialogue from Kerberos! I think they're more fun without context lol. Use your imagination! Surely it can't be too far off.
"Kill him. Simple."
2. "I'd say you came at a horrible time, but any time I see a gross little bug in my den is a horrible time."
3. "Listen, dog."
4. "So sure of everything. I admire that about you, insect."
5. "Figured if I convinced you I did it, you'd drop it, leave me the fuck alone, and I'd have fun doing it. But it can't ever be that easy to get rid of you."
6. "I like to plan ahead, and I side with the most vicious dog."
7. "Now, how is it I can get you to leave as quickly as possible?"
8. "Don't you fucking dare act like you're better than me. To work for them is to be complicit with all they do. Your hands are no cleaner than mine."
9. "You can listen! How about that."
10. "Stay away from me."
11. "By my count, should've been the last living person to know my actual name. Didn't spill, did he?"
12. "He didn't plan anything. I've simply been pulling strings, and snipping wires."
13. "Well, what do you know about poor Slider already? Wouldn't want to be redundant, would I? We all have places to be, things to do."
14. "If you know what's good for you, you'll leave. Now."
15. "For a shred of information, anything to climb back up, you'll kill now. I just have to know your price, is that right?"
Hey!! Got a BARGHEST oc? They looking for company? Look no further!! Garnett and Kerberos wanna hang! I wanna connect with my moots some more and Iām majorly bored too. If you have a BARGHEST oc (or really any cyberpunk oc!) shoot me a ref, and Iāll draw them chilling with Garnett or Ker! I might open comms in the future, but for now this is just for fun.

WIP WHENEVER
Tagged by @ouroboros-hideout and @sofia-in-nc !! Tysm as always, I love doing these :D
Been super busy lately. Art's coming pretty slowly, so for a change I have a little writing! Currently working on some shit for Kerberos, specifically about his time working on the Cynosure revival project, certainly a relaxing chapter in his life. This little passage does contain his real name, but I'm not giving up his secrets that easily, so for the time being, I'm just leaving blank spaces lol. The other character, Aston, was one of his coworkers on the project.
āDid you know they use them on the moon? Militech does, I mean.ā Aston stopped next to one of the work tables laden with a menagerie of tools and manuals, picking up one that seemed to belong to the bot. āCan you imagine being stuck on the fucking moon with one of those? I mean, the thought of a live one here is bad enough.ā
āThey donāt go rabid on facility workers, Aston, that defeats the entire purpose.ā _______ stood beside him, watching him thumb through the manual over his shoulder. āItās a robot that carries out assigned duties and eliminates unauthorized personnel. And there isnāt a live one! Said it yourself. Wherever our rogue unit is, it's dead. Thereās no way we wouldnāt have at least heard it by now.āĀ
He tossed the packet back down. āWeāre authorized, anyway. Siteās defunct, but still needs authorization to operate. On the off chance said rogue unit is indeed still kickinā, shouldnāt bother us.ā Aston scanned over the table's contents, brushing a few loose drill bits off a blueprint laid out across the surface. He was quiet for a moment. āDo you think it knows everyoneās gone? You think itās sad or something?ā
āI think itās a machine run by an AI that doesnāt care about anything other than an aberration it must correct, or a charging station it must connect to. If Iām being honest, I highly doubt it gives a shit.ā _______ looked up at the two inactive units. He wondered that himself often. How human it was to see something which merely imitated life and wonder if it had any feelings. āI think thatās something we impose on other things when we get sad.āĀ
āYou think Iām sad, ___?ā
āIām fucking sad. Look at this place.ā _______ looked at his warped reflection in the side of a shiny chrome toolbox. āI miss the sun. I miss my bed. I miss not being trapped in Militechās fucking catacombs.āĀ
āYouāre a ārunner, ___, so ām I. How much of a difference from our dens even is this? Just a little deeper underground.ā Aston shrugged. āWeāll get used to it.āĀ
He stared at himself a little longer. āSure.āĀ Ā
Tagging without pressure!
@cybercath @kriminaldata @luteolye
a mask changes everything. you can have the most cringefail guy ever and people will listen to them when their face is covered by a cool enough mask
If your oc was a canon character what bad takes/gross mischaracterizations would the fandom come up with for them
Hello hello hello, another brave soldier joining in on the OC ask game shenanigans. How could I resist:
šMartinez
š²Kerberos
š¹Garza
š§Cross
š-For Aston! Fav place to relax-
A hard one, thereās too many great spots to chill in the badlands! Out by Laguna Bend, taking it easy in camp with the rest of the Aldecaldos, or, a personal favorite for literally chilling, the classic netrunnerās tub of ice water! Nothing beats it.
š²-For Ker! Greatest strength and weakness-
One and the same. Reliance only upon himself.
š¹-For Lucino! Greatest fear-
Well, as someone siphoning corporate funds into a warlordās pockets, you may think getting exposed is easily his biggest fear, but youād be wrong. More than anything, Lucino fears Kurt will never forgive him for deserting during the Unification War.
š§-For Garnett! Biggest passion-
Nothing makes Garnett more proud than protecting the district he calls home. Keeping Dogtown safe is what he lives to do. For giving him sanctuary in the darkest moment of his life (yet lol), he feels his debt to Barghest and Dogtown as a whole can never be payed, but heāll never stop trying.
šš§š for Kerberos?
Ooh boy.
š-Does he express himself through words or other means?
Kerās face is always covered by some kind of mask, the very most of his face that is ever showing is his eyes, so he shows VERY little emotion through any kind of facial expression. He relies primarily on tone of voice, body language, and gestures to convey emotion. He often comes off as⦠very flamboyant.
š§-What is he most passionate about?
Without giving too much away, Kerberos is undoubtedly most passionate about maintaining his importance within the hierarchy of Barghest. Iām leaving this one vague on purpose hehe.
š-Describe him in one word.
Competitive.
āØšš© for Kerberos too? >:3
āØ-How did I come up with his name?
Kerberos is a proto-Indo-European word meaning āspottedā, but it is also thought to be the word from which āCerberusā is derived.
š-His gender and sexuality?
Ker is a trans man! His sexuality for the time being is just unlabeled because I honestly havenāt figured that out for him lol. It may just remain unlabeled for him though.
š©-His arch nemesis or rival?
Definitely more of a rival than an arch nemesis, but that title could easily go to my gfās character, Raine, another netrunner! While Ker carries out most of what Barghest needs done net-wise, they occasionally will hire outside help, Raine being one of their top choices. Both, shockingly, are more similar than they will ever be willing to admit, both having almost been killed while netrunning and both being on the run from Netwatch. However, as far as morals and ethics go, are complete opposites. Raine is no saint, but Ker is sitting just a little below the 9th circle of hell.
šÆ āļø š§ š you pick for who :>
Letās do these for Aston and Ker!
šÆ-For Aston. What do they do best?
Netrunning, without a doubt! Aston is good at lots of things, but netrunning is his greatest skill by far. Even before he came to work for Militech, he was very proficient. He was actually digging through Militechās data on a gig when they offered him a job, impressed by his abilities, and also just wanting to keep him from getting into their shit for someone else.
āļø-For Kerberos. Their worst memory?
I think āgetting fried by a rogue ai and then almost getting killed by Netwatchā is easily the worst š
š§ -For Aston. What do I like most about them?
Thereās a lot I love about Aston, but one of my favorite aspects of him has to be his love of cars, a personal passion of mine as well. Astonās name is a very very blatant reference to car manufacturer Aston Martin, and his moniker āVANQUISHā a reference to one of their models.
āļø-For Kerberos. What inspired this oc?
Ker is based off an ingame npc, one of the Barghest netrunners you can see rarely around Dogtown. Their design was just too incredible for me to not make one of my own! He has a few tweaks from the standard design, but otherwise looks the same.
For the ask list š Betrayal
No one was specified for this one⦠so letās do everyone!
Garnett-
I supposeeeee you could consider him disobeying orders from 6th Street as betrayal? His brothers certainly do. Is basically all of Barghest turning on him after V kicks his ass and steals his gun betrayal? Kind of but heās such an ass kisser he just thinks itās justified.
Lucino-
Yeah, desertion is just betrayal straight up š as for being betrayed⦠heās had some VERY important data almost leaked by a former coworker, but has since had it.. taken care of.
Kerberos-
Being betrayed? Not really. Now, doing the betrayal? Oh baby, thatās Kerās entire character! Time and time and time again, to protect his own importance to Barghest, Kerberos has betrayed his former colleagues from Cynosure. As for the specifics of these betrayals, I have too much fun being vague. Hehe.
Aston-
Well, wouldnāt you know it! A betrayed colleague! Aston has not done any betraying himself, though. Experiencing it himself, you know, left sort of a bad taste in his mouth.
Gay audacity tells me I could totally get a bunch of EVA foam and build a cosplay of Kerberos⦠which I think is totally possible if I could ever find the damn time š

More Kerberos ā¼ļø heās so fun to draw!! Plus some info abt him Iām very obsessed with him rn :p
