i have this headcanon where during pre-canon and canon, fugo strictly limits himself to classical music. classical piano is organized and strict. he's taught how to read notes from a page and follow each of them in order, one by one. when something as slight as hitting the wrong chord can lead to the entire performance getting thrown off and piano keys getting struck senselessly with angry fingers. everything spiraling to a jumble of nonsensical noise and frustration. does anything sound familiar? however, i like to think that he started developing an interest in jazz post phf as some part of purple haze distortion. because, unlike classical music, jazz is free and is built entirely on improvised mistakes. hitting the wrong note doesn't matter anymore because it could lead to something else, something that sounds better. something that sounds happier. and it's his way of unlearning the flawed ways he was taught as a child.
