The best part about being into we are is that there are so many cute couples and all of them model pretty healthy relationships and even with the fighting and misunderstandings they always make a point to show how much they value communication. They resolve conflict in pretty simple ways (MOSTLY THROUGH TALKING TO EACH OTHER, THANK YOU GOD!)

Peem genuinely is such a thoughtful character, like he never jumps to crazy conclusions. Even when he was mad at Phum it wasn’t for the fact that he broke his promise but because he felt like Phum didn’t trust him enough to tell him something so important. He did the rational thing and texted Fang because he thought something had happened instead of assuming that he just ditched him or getting mad.

Plus I think it’s really cool that Peem isnt leading Kluen on and that he squashed that love triangle so quickly. Where as other shows would have milked every last drop of conflict out of a love triangle, they used it to show the emotional state of both main characters without making it irritating for the viewers. Like we got to see that Phum was jealous and has unresolved abandonment issues through how he interacted with Kluen.

With Peem you can see that he is really good at setting CLEAR boundaries. He’s also portrayed as a kind person because he saw Kluen all alone at a camp without anyone he knows and basically took him under his wing.

The worst part about we are the series is that I’m a 100% guns-blazing chain-pun shipper and I get maybe 15 minutes of content spread over 13 episodes.

I know it’s the last episode so it’s not as likely but I hope we are gets us some (platonic or romantic) rare pairs hanging out. Like how we had peem and fang hanging out or the unexpected ship MattMick. It would be cool to see like, chain and beer. Or Q and beer or tbh anyone and beer.

Actually forget I said that and just give me more beer scenes.

I’m not sure if this is a hot take or not. But I can tell u that after their confession scene, I didn’t really enjoy Qtoey all that much. Every time they were on screen I was just internally screaming bc I was hoping for any Chain & pun scene. Christ there are 4 parts each episode and 4 main couples. There’s an easy division of screen time there. However it kinda feels like 2 parts PhumPeem, 1 part Qtoey and then 1 part either TanFang or the whole gang. I would have loved to see a lot more Tanfang & Chainpun if I’m being honest.

A kiss in the last 10 minutes of the fucking show is not a story.

TanFang have a whole narrative arc and the way that info gets revealed to us about them is so satisfying. Like when I recall past interactions I now do so with a whole new lense, I see depth and meaning in things that I simply brushed off.

PhumPeem are such a delight because of how emotionally well connected they are and I thought I would not like this ship all that much but it’s so precious and the story is so conceptually simple and yet so well written. Obviously there was a lot of beating around the bush but honestly? I was hooked.

Qtoey also had a great story of meeting in high school, and falling in love with each other through little notes before ever seeing each others faces, and the destined meeting once again as a senior and junior in College. However if I were to speak honestly, after getting Q and Toey together all of their scenes lagged. Also as a side note, they absolutely didn’t need that scene of Q and Toey doing the nasty. Especially since the og character for Toey is Ace. Hell! they could have done a really cool storyline of Toey and Q navigating this part of their relationship while being respectful of each others needs and boundaries.

ChainPun, got an off screen visit to the vet, a scene of them getting snacks, a scene of them releasing the bird and then suddenly a kiss. And before anyone says that Chainpun was a slow burn of childhood friends to lovers… babe no they’re not. A slow burn is slow I get that, but at least there’s SOMETHING to burn? I’ve been living off of crumbs here.

Finally, I don’t wanna come off as a hater, despite this post I do love this series. There’s a deep connection between all of the characters and it’s such a healthy depiction of so many different types of relationships between family, friends and lovers. The love of people who once hurt each other, those who have reconciled, those in the process of it, even the love of those who are so afraid of hurting each other they would rather hurt themselves.

Okay, it's time for a honest review

I love we are. I really do. I love all of the cast and It's a really fun & comforting series. Experiencing it in the real-time is super fun, it kinda reminded me of how fun it was to watch bad buddy & msp in the real-time. It's the type of series that in the next 6 months or 1 years you would go back to re-watch it.

But for a series with 16 episodes, 4 episode more than any regular series, they could do a lot lot lot better. They always saying that phumpeem & qtoey is the 'main' couple & don't get me wrong, I love pondphuwin with my whole heart, and I get it they're the most popular couple on the show, but the phumpeem situationship is dragging for sooooo long.

Tanfang & chainpun having zero proper storyline and they expect us to be satisfied with chainpun's sudden & abruptly kiss scene in the very last minute?! It's truly a shame bcs marcpoon honestly doing a great job and having a great chemistry despite sudden cast change.

And in my opinion, it would be much much much interesting if they focus on phum & fang's dad problem instead of the super long situationship of phumpeem. Not only it will added more layer into phumpeem's relationship, but we also could have tanfang's proper storyline if they stick to this story.

And don't get me started with the erasure of toey's asexuality. It's really disappointing knowing gmm already doing it with pai in cherry magic and now they also doing it to toey. They should realize that people could be an asexual without having to be an aromantic. In this matter, I would like to praise wandee goodday to gave us a proper ace icon. WHICH IS- we also could have in we are, if they not change toey's sexual identity.

I don't know.... I'm so grateful for the chance that they give to aouboom & marcpoon, to make them more popular. And I honestly really really really enjoy the first half. I would give a 100000 / 10 rating for the first half of the show. But the second half? It's just full of the fanservice and bad directing. All of the cast deserve a better storyline 😔

Phum/Peem

have the strict (but still kind and loving) dad in Peem x Spoils you rotten dad in Phum

they have a very beautiful daughter who is well adjusted, kind and somewhat hyperactive.

Phum drives this girl wherever she wants to go all the time no matter the circumstances. He is always just a phone call away.

She grew up loving music and wants to be a famous musician, she learnt how to play guitar from her uncle Q.

She uses Peem’s artwork as the cover of her albums.

She loves the beach and visiting her grandparents in Chiangmai, and she always invites way too many friends.

On any given day Phum/Peem can open the front door of their own home to see upwards of 3 teenagers in their house, who definitely do not live there.

She finds herself in a very gay friend group, like her fathers before her.

She cooks about as well as Peem does, without any of the self awareness, because Phum will always eat whatever she makes him.

She’s got trouble sleeping, so sometimes Peem makes hot chocolate late at night for the two of them and they chat away for hours, sitting out on the porch, wrapped up in a blanket, until she finally falls asleep in Peem’s arms. Peem carries her to her bedroom and tucks her in gently. Before heading back to Phum, who’s up waiting for him.

She’s very athletic, and has been enrolled in Muay Thai classes since she was a kid and is definitely down to fight for her friends.

Okay that’s about as many as I can think of atm. I’ll try to continue with other couples as well. For me Qtoey and TanFang have a much stronger childless energy but I can also see them being amazing with kids, so Im open to suggestions about them and anyone else.

What if Phum didn’t just trip because of love. What if he were to be genuinely clumsy, and trips over his own feet often.

Peem thinks its a recurring joke at first, because it’s a happy coincidence where Phum ends up in his arms and smiles up at him like he planned it. But then he trips in the cafe and takes a chair down with him, startling Peem and Aunt Pui where they were preparing coffee behind the bar, and it’s not a joke anymore.

The man is genuinely a walking hazard.

Peem keeps trying to catch Phum after that. Sees his boyfriend almost tripping and lounges at him without a second thought, even when Phum doesn’t actually trip.

Phum loves it. Peem’s arms around him at random intervals and his panicked, lovely eyes taking Phum in to see if he’s alright? He adores it; he always plants happy sniff kisses all over Peem’s face, who sputters, cheeks flushed, and scolds softly “Please look where you’re going instead of staring at me.”

“But 🥺 you’re so pretty today.”

“I’m pretty everyday,” Peem says absentmindedly, and blushes even harder when he realizes and Phum grins at him. “I mean, in your eyes. I’m always pretty in your eyes. Doesn’t mean you have to end up in the hospital because of it. Watch your steps.”

Phum hums, undeterred. “But you’re always here to catch me.”

Peem groans and muffles his exasperated but fond laugh in Phum’s neck when his boyfriend sniff kisses his temple. “You’re a lost cause.”

*Phum , Tan and Q sitting in jail together*

Phum: So who should we call? because I can't call Peem he will kill me.

Tan: I would call Fang, but I feel safer in jail.

Phum: Let's call Toey, he is sweetie, he'll probably be more worried than angry.

Q, who has angered Toey before, shaking: please don't.

Peem: I want to kiss you.

Phum, not paying attention: What?

Peem: I said if you die, I won't miss you.

I have this weird sense of emptiness when I reach the late end of a Wednesday night and realise we are is no longer airing. Leaves me craving something to fill the space it used to take up with SOMETHING.

Imagine being Phum's coworker and seeing this huge guy in rich tasteful apparel every single day and like, a three hundred baht haircut and twice that amount's watch gleaming on his wrist, and this guy is hot and picky and has deadly eyes (in all possible meanings of that phrase), and then one day, you meet his husband and he's some painter who wears sandals unironically and dresses like a fisherman, and is, also unironically, the prettiest man you've laid eyes on. What would you even do.
