Shut the Fuck Up
*a binding poppet to silence those who like to gossip, slander, or just won’t shut up
Supplies
A white poppet with a face (you can just draw it on with the marker)
A taglock of the individual
Black string
A needle and black thread
A black permanent marker
Echinacea: Adds powerful strength to herb mixes
Knotweed: Binding
Morning Glory (the vine part): Binding
Rose Geranium: Averts gossip and false accusations
Slippery Elm: Halting gossip
Steps
1. In a bowl (or mortal and pestle) grind up any of the above herbs (you don’t have to use them all, just what you’re able to get your hands on).
2. Add the herb mixture and taglock into the poppet. Sew the poppet close with your needle and thread.
3. Wrap the poppet several times with the black string, bind it tight.
4. Take your marker and scribble the mouth as much as you feel necessary. Put all your anger and frustration into the poppet as you scribble (you can also tell it to shut the fuck up too).

I wrote two comics for Inspired's newest anthology, Eat Me! (I was also very pleased to win the cover vote this time with my cheerful takoyaki.) The Mysterious Land of Under Noodle went into the anthology, so The Bad Fairy Bakery was printed alone and sold as a mini-comic at Bristol Expo. Since it's only 8 pages long, I thought I'd put up the whole thing for you all to read, like Patience is a Virtue. I hope you enjoy it!

Poppet is accompanying the Gransden Brownies on their Pack Holiday this year!
My Mum is a pack leader and requested a cover sheet for their diaries featuring Poppet, but as their theme is Folktales and Legends I couldn't resist adding some little fact sheets as well. This also means that after years of confusion I finally know how to pronounce Bwbachod, which is one of the names sixes can have. Fortunately I was a Gnome, which is a lot easier.
(Gnomes forever!)
Remember you can ask Poppet anything at all, she loves to give out information as well as advice.

Hello followers! Pictured here is Poppet the House Hob. Poppet uses her fairy knowledge to answer questions in What’s the Time, Mrs Woolf? But this time Nobody has sent Poppet a question yet, and the deadline for the next issue is only 2 days away! (1st May)
Poppet will be very sad if nobody gives her a question to answer. If you have a question, a problem, or you need advice, please send your queries to Poppet at this address:
She’s learned how to use email specially so you can ask her things!

Here's a one-page preview of a comic I made this year, 'The Music Cupboard', featuring Poppet the House Hob!
As we approached the deadline for Mixtape Sammy and I were worried there wouldn't be enough submissions, so even though we'd already finished comics from the earlier deadline we both did a second one. As it happens right at the last minute we got a lot more submissions, so we needn't have worried, but I was already finished so hopefully we can use both!
I had a lot of trouble coming up with an idea for a second comic, so I asked Sammy for help. She said to try using characters I already had, and I'm glad she did because I ended up with a new Poppet comic! I hope that if I keep making these I can print them in some kind of compendium with Bad Fairy Bakery, or in a special Poppet issue of What's the Time Mrs Woolf?.
Sammy's posting previews of all the comics on the Inspired blog, if you want to see what the others are doing!

Inktober - Day 13
I was also very tired after getting home from the Cheltenham Small Press Fair, so I quickly doodled up some more house hobs. These are Poppet's friends, who appeared in The Music Cupboard. They're all hobs, but I think only Poppet currently has a house to take care of.

Here's this year's set of dolly-style postcards as well! I'll also have these at Thought Bubble next weekend.
These are Meilee and Lin, who have never seen a flower before, Poppet and a friend helping themselves to a quick snack, Jessie enjoying a late-night broomstick ride, and Nettle proving that she and Spider didn't need an umbrella.

Sketchavember - Day 22 and 23
I'm back from Thought Bubble! And uploading these together because they're both cheating to some extent. Sweetpea was doodled up in the train station, intended to be finished later, but then Sammy and I had such an awful journey to Leeds I completely forgot. (I guess you guys might find it interesting to see my initial sketch though?) Then on Saturday I was so tired I just drew Poppet, which in pencil seems like cheating because she's incredibly easy to draw. I don't think I've ever goofed up a picture of Poppet at the pencil stage. I'm not convinced it would even be possible.
Hahaha look at my wrinkly old forehead!

Oh no! It’s only two days until the deadline for What’s the Time, Mrs Woolf? Spring 2014, and nobody has asked Poppet the House Hob a question!
Poppet will be very put out if she has no questions to answer. If you have a problem, or you just want information, please allow Poppet to apply her fairy expertise!
You can email us at [email protected], or ask Poppet a question here on tumblr. If your question is printed in the zine we’ll also send you a copy so you can enjoy Poppet’s answer in all its creatively-spelled majesty.

Inktober day 5 - G-pen, ink and water, brush inking, mapping pen, brush pen
I had a busy evening so I just scribbled up some Poppets and inked them in different ways.
I forgot to photograph any of these before posting them, so I’m glad Sammy took pictures! Poppet thinks Nisse is a Tomtenisse and Lis is probably a Domovoi. Here in the south we have Lob-Lie-By-The-Fire, which is nowhere near as cute as Poppet, but just as helpful.
Just casually assume everyone is as obsessively well-informed about Gorillaz as we are. XD

Last summer I kept asking sarahfogg if Poppet (WTTMW?) and Nisse (Hilda series) and Lis (Seconds) were all the same kind of house fairy thing, so Poppet made me a chapbook explaining a bunch of different types of house fairy from all over Europe. It’s super cute, Poppet is the cutest. (the book is mini comic size, like A7?) (here in the midlands we have House Hobs - just like Poppet! :D)
The bottom photo is of a hand made notebook, with a quote from Bananaz …. I realised we filled last years music zine with Bananaz quotes but then never explained where they were actually from. X’D

My little sister was trying to explain Poppet to her boyfriend and asked for some visual aids, I was happy to oblige.
I’m not sure how much they will have helped for someone who had trouble with the concept of ‘helpful house fairy, gives advice’. It’s not rocket science, Matt.

Inktober 2016 - Day 13 : brush pen and coloured ink I was out in town with Sammy (who incidentally has just written a very good post about being careful when you give harsh advice about art) when I drew this and she said ‘draw Poppet with a pumpkin’, so I did and here it is! Poppet is helping out with the Hallowe’en prep. From scratching around with a gel pen yesterday to my fattest brush pen today!

Inktober 2017 : Day 11 - fineliner and grey pen In a house with Hobs, you really should assume you’ll be sharing any food items you leave unattended. It always has to be something simple if I have a long shift at the shop, at the library I can work in it at the counter, but in a shop that is verboten.

My poor Mum is in hospital again (she’s very healthy but has had really bad luck for the last couple of years) so I made her a get well soon card. She really likes Poppet so I hope it will cheer her up.

Inktober 2018 : Day 26 - fineliners and grey pens Poppet and her friends have dressed up as Koroks for Hallowe’en!

Inktober 2019: day 26 - G-pen
Poppet’s friend found a smashed up breakfast bar, and it was far too big to eat alone.
This was much simpler in my head than it was to draw! Poppet and her friends are very easy to draw, but I didn’t factor in having to draw the breakfast bar and figure out how to position them all.

Cold weather, hot food.

Inktober 2022 Day 3: Rotring isographs
This was the point where I caught a horrible cold, and doing two art challenges at once was a real struggle. I actually had to use white ink to make a correction on this one (see if you can spot where) which I almost never do.
You might think this looks a bit involved for an ill person. The shading did take forever, but the important part is I didn't have to think very hard while drawing it.
