Inktober 2016 - Day 6 : G-pen and marker Psychics are generally more dangerous as children than as adults. I thought of some extra bits of colour that might improve this one when I scanned it this morning, but it’s yesterday’s picture so no edits for you, baby Nettle.

Inktober 2016 - Day 7 : fineliner and grey pen
Isaac would make a good guardian angel for a goth child who likes things creepy. Assuming he is an angel, that is.

Inktober 2016 - Day 8 : G-pen It says something about Spider’s personality that he can be so happy about bending a spoon when Nettle is lifting herself, him and probably half the house in the air without even really trying. I think I’ve drawn a variation of this picture for the last 3 Inktobers in a row. It’s probably fine as long as I use a different inking method each time.

Inktober 2016 - Day 10 : mapping pen Lottie lives in a very cold place where Summer is short and Autumn is freezing, but her adoptive parents buy her plenty of fashionable fur-trimmed coats.

Inktober 2016 - Day 11 : cartridge pen Lena insists that the fortune-telling works better if you use Nana’s good tea set. Cake is optional but encouraged.

Inktober 2016 - Day 12 : gel pen The Crow Boy doesn’t mean to be creepy, but he usually is anyway.

Inktober 2016 - Day 13 : brush pen and coloured ink I was out in town with Sammy (who incidentally has just written a very good post about being careful when you give harsh advice about art) when I drew this and she said ‘draw Poppet with a pumpkin’, so I did and here it is! Poppet is helping out with the Hallowe’en prep. From scratching around with a gel pen yesterday to my fattest brush pen today!

Inktober 2016 - Day 14 : G-pen Lena would probably have a whole wardrobe of dresses like this if she had the money.

Inktober 2016 - Day 15 : gel pen Tempting with fruit isn’t the only way for a bad fairy to entrap unsuspecting humans. (Ely is also wearing her glamour like a sensible changeling.)

Inktober 2016 - Day 16 : ink and water
Lena is able to use all sorts of divination tools. She can get much the same results from a clear bowl of water, but the crystal ball looks spookier.

Inktober 2016 - Day 17 : g-pen and grey pen I realised I hadn’t drawn the Mirror Twins yet this year, so here they are! That might well be a ‘Hand of Glory’, but let’s not ask where they got it.

Inktober 2016 - Day 18 : brush pens I made a mistake inking this one! I originally planned to ink it with my mapping pen and got as far as the first inking that way, but then realised there was no way I could cross-hatch it before work, and while the library is generally happy for me to draw when it’s quiet they would probably draw the line at a bottle of liquid ink and a dip pen. I had to finish it in brush pens, which I suppose is nice because now Spider matches the Nettle from day 4. He likes the snow.

Inktober 2016 - Day 19 : ink and water
I made this one a lot harder than it needed to be! I sketched it early in the morning when I was full of energy, but I had to go to BOTH day-jobs and didn’t have time to ink it until the evening when I was really sleepy and cursing myself for drawing something complicated (I hadn’t decided what the spirits should look like at that point). I finished inking it on a moving train I was so determined not to have to work on it after I got home. I’m surprised it turned out okay! Things look different through the bad eye.

Inktober 2016 - Day 21 : mapping pen
I wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so I could only manage a quick sketch with minimal shading. I also messed up Louise’s face but I do that so often that I’m sure she’ll forgive me. Autumn is a good time for fairy-spotting.

Inktober 2016 - Day 22 : g-pen and grey pen My G-pen seemed to be misbehaving so I drew something nice and simple to test it, luckily it turns out the problem was that I was tired rather than the pen being damaged.

Inktober 2016 - Day 24 : mapping pen
Another fairly simple one as I had a busy day and was very tired. I originally planned to do a little more shading but by this point I’d already smudged it twice and it didn’t seem worth the risk. Louise is having a good time with the fairies anyway.

Inktober 2016 - Day 26 : mapping pen I already drew Ely with her glamour, so here she is without it. She’s just as gross as Trispin.

Inktober 2016 - Day 27 : brush inking and ink wash
I’ve never drawn the Crow Boy dolly-style before. It doesn’t really suit him, which presents a problem because it really suits Lottie, but they come from the same place so they really have to be drawn the same way. Hmmm.

Inktober 2016 - Day 28 : brush pen Spider is, at least on the surface, a pretty laid-back telepath.
