whatever defines an ability as being "downpour style" can be up to you, but i'm using it here to refer to some of the more fantastical abilities of the downpour slugcats, like artificer's bomb jump or gourmand's ability to produce almost any object from their stomach.

No downpour was fun really fun but like :( let downpour be downpour and watcher be watcher i highly doubt its going to follow the same formula again this game has a way of subverting expectations at the time sluggies that could make bombs and double jump and run around really fast and craft and use a grapple hook WAS a subversion. it was novel. youd never seen anything like it in the game before so while the world itself did not change all too much it felt TOTALLY different each time because the ways you interacted with ut changed i hope watcher can achieve that again a lot of people say nothing could ever match the first survivor playthrough. i mean its kinda right but the whole reason i loved it so much is because it was all so new. something id never seen before in any game a world that just presents itself as a world. theres no reason for any of it to exist. you never have to see any of it optional lore adn hunter fleshed out that world more to tell a story. it was a small one at the time but very emotional for what it did. then downpour comes in its alllll about expanding that story each time you played a new one youd have a new ability that recontextualized the gameplay and new interactions that recontextualized the lore so it still felt new to me it took a game that hadnt really been done before and added new things that game hadnt tried yet and i hope the watcher brings that same feeling i dont think we will ever get the sense of unfamiliarity back thats just how learning works we chose to engage with a world that did not care whether we did or didnt and now we have learned about it im getting pretty deep for this poll and running out of tags but my point is that the gameplay changes are tied to everything about the game they change how you see the world and the story and how you feel about them. so if we want to feel something new we cant repeat downpour we cant get the feeling we first had with base game or we first had with downpour again. and we shouldnt. the game is fun because its unique
