he's a little flustered.

he stands there, eyes on the chibi version of himself, his cheeks covered in blush

he's almost jealous actually (he is VERY jealous but he's not going to admit that)

somewhere deep down inside him, he wishes you would shower him in love like you are with Chibi Akechi, but he'll never admit it

You sat there, the Chibi Akechi in your lap, holding him tight to your body. you were squealing over how cute it was, and sure it was kind of cute, but shouldn't you be paying more attention to your actual boyfriend?

he sighed heavily from his spot beside you, glaring at the little version of himself. He half wished he could throw the damn thing out the window, but it made you so happy...maybe it wasn't to bad.

he was able to control himself until you started placing kisses all over the Chibi Akechi's cute little face. He sat up from his spot, back straightening. he snatched the thing out of your arms, and gave it one more glare before getting up and putting on a high shelf you couldn't reach. Perhaps it was petty, but the way he saw it, the only one worthy of your kisses was him.

you complained and groaned a bit, but he just drew you into his arms, pressing kisses to your forehead, hoping you would forget about the Chibi Akechi soon.

he thinks its adorable the way you squeal over it

he's also a bit flustered but plays it off with his suave charm

he also likes to take pictures of you with it, so he can look back at them later

he knew you were cute before, but damn, you really were adorable.

the way you sat there with the Chibi Akira in your hands, pressing kisses to its cute face was almost to much for him to handle. he felt like his heart was going to explode.

his cheeks were red as he grinned at you, walking over to sit beside you and look at the tiny version of himself. he popped out his phone, snapping pictures of you with it, so he could look back at them later.

As much as he wished it was him you were smooching, he couldn't help but smile at the fact that you were showing the small version of him so much attention. Even he had to admit that it was pretty cute.

Gosh you could just squish the little chibi version of him to death! he was so cute with his little cheeks and cute little pout!

you continued to squish the little baby, but there was one thing you noticed. Your boyfriends demeanor had changed. you stopped smothering the little chibi for a second, turning to look over at your boyfriend.

he was sulking.

he sat on your bed, legs and arms crossed, his bottom lip sticking out. as soon as you locked eyes, he looked away, the wall having become much more important.

you sighed, gently putting down the chibi version, before making your way over to your grumpy boyfriend. you made you way onto the bed, and then pulled his head into your lap. he gasped out of suprise, and quickly recovered once he felt your hands running through his soft hair.

"Don't worry, Goro....your much cuter than any chibi. especially when you pout like that" you said in a teasing tone, gently messaging his scalp. he shot you a half hearted glare, before closing his eyes and leaning into your touch.

Akira Kurusu¬

You had been snuggling Chibi Akira for quite a while, and you could tell your boyfriend was annoyed.

it had all started out as a game to you. How long could Akira last before he gave into the jealousy and snatched the Chibi away from you?

but it had gone on quite a while. you were starting to feel bad. it was hard not to when he was making all those sad dramatic sighs from the corner of his room. you gave in, setting the chibi down on Akira's couch, so it would be comfortable. then you made your way to your boyfriend, a sad look plastered on his face. whether he was being dramatic or not, the sight made your heart melt.

before you even had time to sit down all the way, he was on top of you. he wrapped his arms around your torso, burying his face into your neck. you could smell the ever lasting coffee scent he had adopted since he moved to the cafe, and it brought a smile to your face.

one thing was for sure. cuddling with your boyfriend was much better than the chibi.

Angry to say the least

not the type to verbally or physically show that anger in anyway though, you you probably won't figure out he's angry at your Aunt

VERY eager to change the heart of your aunt.

you mean the world to him, so the fact that someone treated you with such disrespect has him seething.

when he's not Phantom Thieving, he's making sure to give you attention and affection, and is always pretty carful not to yell around you regardless of what the situation might be

sometimes even goes as far as to make sure his friends don't yell around you

Akira did not have a short temper, and it took a lot to truly make him angry.

Somehow your aunt had turned the usually cool headed teenager into one filled with one filled with anger to say the least.

He had been hesitant at first. Changing a person's heart was a permanent thing, and he didn't want you to make the decision just because you were angry. But as soon as you told him the story as to why you felt your dear Aunts heart should be changed, he was eager and ready to do it.

he put it at the top of his priority list. he ignored most of his other memento requests, instead deciding that the specific request you had given him was the most important thing in the world.

He made sure check up on you as the change of heart was in progress, taking you out around town, and making you coffee so you could have a break from your family. he new the best thing for you would be to take your mind off the situation until it was resolved.

Goro Akechi~

Not typically one to change hearts, but he's willing to do it for you

his anger is a lot more visible, especially when he sees how much it scared you

as soon as you tell him the story, he is making comments.

"How could your Aunt do that to you?" "Your aunt is obviously the problem here." "She sounds like a real pain"

it takes a lot to hold back when confronting your aunt, especially because killing people is basically muscle memory for him, but thinking of you keeps him in line

It wasn't often you came to Goro in tears. And every time you did he dreaded it.

In his eyes you were so perfect. the Personification of joy and happiness and love, and it made no sense to him that anyone could ever yell at you.

when he found out what your Aunt had done he could feel anger coursing through him like blood.

He was delicate with you as he held you, making sure not to scare you anymore than you already were.

Of course he wanted to help you. but helping others wasn't something he was particularly good at. He would try his hardest anyway, if it meant he could hear you laugh, see you smile.

He would do anything to make you happy.

Ann Takamaki~

She understands exactly how your feeling.

she had been yelled at the same way as you, and it made her angry that someone as kind and loving as you had to experience that.

quick to tell Akira of your situation, and really presses on the Phantom Thieves about fulfilling your request.

She takes you out on crepe dates and invites you to come to her modelling sessions so you can take your mind off of the situation until its fixed.

As soon as Ann heard your story, her once present smile faded.

First Shiho, and now you? it broke her heart.

She held you close for a second, her eyes welling up. She quickly wiped them away, before letting you go. this time she would be strong enough to protect you. and that was a promise.

it seemed like all the people around her lately were sad. she new she needed to fix the situation. She sent Akira a quick text, explaining your situation, before asking to take you out for crepes.

he NEVER forces anything on you, EVER.

he does not want to make you feel like you have to eat, and he also does not want to make you feel like you have to tell him everything, or anything at all

he does not really care whether or not you tell him the whole situation, or if you tell him at all

he still checks up on you and makes sure your feeling ok

sometimes he worries that your lack of eating will cause problems like passing out, and makes sure your never to drained or tired when in public

he's trying his very best to stay calm.

He can see that your uncomfortable so he tries to get to you as fast as possible

Honestly his reaction depends on his mood

if he's in a bad mood, or is maybe a little less confident with himself, he is quick to take his place beside you, his arm wrapping around your waist.

he chats with you, completely ignoring the person who was trying to flirt with you

if the person finds the courage to speak up, he sends them a death glare. seriously, if looks could kill this person would be 6 feet under

showers you in affection afterwards, and pouts if you don't return his affection :(

if he's in a good mood, and confident (most of the time), then he strides over to you, pressing a kiss to your cheek before politely telling the person bothering you that the two of you are together and you are NOT looking for a partner

kind of a gentlemen about it ngl

Even with that silver mask adoring your face, Akira could still tell that it was you. You stood out to him, even in a room full of masked faces.

The two of you had been invited to a masquerade ball, and you were both incredibly excited to go, to the point that the two of you decided to match outfits.

that's all it takes for Akira swiftly walk over to your side, eyeing the girl who was chatting up a storm with you, before gently yanking the arms of the women off you. he turns to you, pressing a kiss to your cheek. You giggle, pressing one to his cheek in return.

the women beside you cleared her throat, obviously embarrassed. Akira raised an eyebrow, daring them to say anything. The women gulped, before turning away, face burning.

Akira turned back to you, flashing you his charming smile and enjoying your attention that was now only on him.

Goro Akechi~

his response also depends on his mood, and also which version of him your dealing with (before or after 3rd semester)

if your with Akechi before 3rd Semester, then he puts up his princely facade and deals with it in a responsible manner, cheerfully letting the person know that you have a partner.

appears seemingly out of no where

does tell them off in a condescending way about touching things that don't belong to them

not a big fan of PDA, but he will rest one of his hands on your lower back, and occasionally he will lean down to press a kiss to your cheek or whisper something in your ear

3rd semester Akechi is a whole other deal

he makes them feel TERRIBLE, and then smiles about it

acts the same way PDA wise, but allows a smirk to rest on his face, and is kind of a tease, whispering about how adorable you are

either way, he stops this person before they can get close enough to touch you

Akechi finally had a break from work.

it had been weeks since the two of you were able to truly spend time together, so he figured a date between the two of you would be perfect. he let you choose.

thats how the two of you ended up at an outdoor ice rink, his brown jacket wrapped tightly around him as the cold nipped at him.

His scarf was wrapped around your neck, and he couldn't help but think how cute you looked, the scarf nestled up against your soft pink cheeks.

he looked away for a second, going over to put on his own skates, before standing back up and searching around to find you. it didn't take long.

You were skating slowly beside another girl, and Akechi tried to think nothing of it, until he saw a flirty smirk cross the girls face, and saw them slowly moving closer to you.

he got over as fast as he could without looking weird, coming up between you and the other girl just before she could come to close to you. he turned to the girl, asking if the two of you new each other. when you said no, he introduced himself, stating quite clearly that the two of you were together. she got the hint, and made up a quick excuse before leaving the two of you alone.

he reached for your hand, and the smiled. Finally the two of you could have some alone time.

this man is a very comforting person to be around

his scent is nice, the soft but bold smell of coffee clings to him from Leblanc

he's a very soft person, whether it be his voice, his hair, or even just him in general.

he also can be quite quiet sometimes, so he's a good person to vent to or talk to. he doesn't pry, and is a very good listener.

he won't cling to you, and certainly won't push you to speak or hang out with him. he want's to give you as much space as you want and need.

will make food for you, and check up on you, just to make sure that your still staying healthy.

tries his best to act like normal, but is still very kind with you and careful; he doesn't want to bring up any emotions or bad feelings.

however, he doesn't want to act so normal that you feel like your being neglected or that he's trying to ignore your feelings

as soon as he finds out you have a palace he blames himself

"Why wasn't i there for Y/N?" "i should have tried harder to be there for them.."

it crushes him, it truly does that your desires got so out of whack because of this

he feels like a terrible boyfriend. he should have noticed that you were going through this, he thinks

in reality it isn't his fault; the person you lost was very close to you, and it was kind of bound to happen (the palace)

he makes it his first priority to save you, and make sure that your state doesn't get any worse

after all is said and done, he makes sure to check up on you more and make sure that you know your not alone, even though he can't replace the person you lost.

Ryuji Sakamoto~

definitely the best to comfort you.

he's lost people in his life, and knows what you need. You need some attention, not enough to be smothered, but enough that you know your not alone in this.

after his dad left (even though he was a terrible person), it messed him up, and he felt more alone then ever. he didn't have anyone like you to help him through it

he wants to make sure you don't feel the way he did, so he makes sure to check up on you

the same as Akira, makes sure you've been eating and drinking, but also makes sure you've been keeping up with hygiene.

he'll invite you over and run you a nice bath, and while you take it he will prepare snacks and a movie, with your favourite fluffy blanket of course.

lots of snuggles. again, he makes sure you always have space to back up or move away from him incase you feel suffocated.

when he hears from Mishima that you asked for your own heart to be changed via the phan-site, he makes it his goal to help you.

he tries not to linger on bad thoughts to much, and tries not to let himself take the blame; he knows its not his fault.

that being said, he still feels bad about it all, he can't help it you are his s/o after all

as soon as your heart has been changed he's coming to visit you, with some sort of gift, maybe a teddy bear, or even just some snacks

you guys watch a movie, play a game, read manga together, heck whatever you want as long as he can be with you

Yusuke Kitagawa~

he's a clueless boy

not the best at sensing when you need to be comforted, and also not the best at sensing when you need space

in fact, he's quite bad at it.

he may have lost his mother and father, but he was quite young when it happened, and he tries not to think of Madarame to much

still, he is aware of the situation and tries his best to comfort you

he gives nice hugs, probably because of his height, and is also very gentle with you

he treats you very delicately, and tries his best to be delicate with words as well, as not to say anything that might trigger you or make you feel a wave of bad emotions.

he tries to make you food

he's not very good at it, but he's learned a thing or two from living in a school dorm by himself.

sometimes he'll just resort to buying you some food (if he has money)

one of the few ways he is good at showing that he is there for you, is by making you stuff.

he paints, sketches, crafts, heck he even tries using clay.

he makes you all sorts of stuff from trinkets to full on paintings.

when he find out about your desire to have your heart changed, it hits him like a truck, especially because you told him yourself, even if you don't know he's a phantom thief

your the only person he has left, really, and he wants to take care of you more than anything in the world.

he's quick to change your heart, and after he comes to see you

he is out of characteristically romantic with you and gentle with you, even more so than he already is

he's just happy that your here with him, and that you didn't start to feel worse.

he vows to be better at comforting you in the future and paying more attention to you.

Goro Akechi

it doesn't matter if it's third semester akechi or not, he too is also terrible at comforting you

he does try, really, he just isn't really sure how to do it right

growing up he never got comforting for anything. not until you showed up.

its still a very new concept for him, but he wants to be there for you so he tries as best as he can

and for the most part he's ok. the only problem is that he's over baring. its almost suffocating.

he always knows when your upset, its like his sixth sense

the only problem is that he can't tell if your upset because of the loss, or because of him.

he actually refuses to even think its him unless you bring it up

he's good at taking care of you. he buys you food, helps you stay on top of hygiene, helps you with laundry.

its just that he acts like you are completely uncapable of doing ANYTHING. it's like he's taken control of your life.

Futaba knows a little bit of English because of her activity online, and can hold a pretty basic conversation with someone.

Haru really likes rock music and heavy metal, but none of her friends know. Its not because she hides it, but no one really pays attention to the slight head bops she does whenever she hears some sort of heavy metal or rock music.

Akechi actually really enjoys older animes like Death Note, NANA, Evangelion, and even sometimes a little bit of Bleach or Naruto. he often plays them in the background when he's catching up on homework, or working on papers for his job.

Mishima is a REALLY picker eater, and sometimes actually shuffles through his food with a fork before eating it to make sure it doesn't have any thing he might not like in it.

Mishima and Futaba have never successfully gotten through a whole novel unless it had to do with an Anime or Video Game.

Akira loves TV Girl a lot. He has a habit of quoting TV Girl lyrics when having conversations, whether or not the conversation is serious. Sometimes he purposefully does it at bad times because he knows it annoys everyone.

it was strange, really. that there were two of them. especially because they were so different.

You decided to take advantage of the situation, and quickly started up conversation with Ren, occasionally throwing flirtatious comments in and admiring the way Ren's face would light up a bright shade of red, and giggling at the way he would tuck strands of hair behind his ear's when you complimented him only to quickly shake it back when he could feel his ears getting hot.

as you continued to converse with Ren you noticed the way Akira had stiffened up. you threw a glance his way, noticing the way his jaw had clenched, and the stiffness of his arms crossed over his chest. you felt slightly bad that you had neglected him all this time, but honestly you were enjoying his reactions just as much as Ren's. You giggled as an idea lit up in your head, and you quickly turned over to Ren once again.

you giggled a little more as you placed your hand on Ren's chest. It felt the same as Akira's, toned with muscle, but still soft. he smelt the same as well, like rich coffee, and a tad bit of chocolate. You felt Akira stiffen next to you, and took notice to the way his finger's twitched slightly.

you decided to push your luck even more, spreading your palm on his chest, and pressing yourself closer to Ren, who was blushing so intensely you were sure he was bound to pass out. You moved your head up, pressing a swift wet kiss to Ren's cheek, before backing up a bit and looking at his face. he had frozen in shock, his face somehow a deeper shade of red than before. you giggled again, before feeling a sturdy pair of hands on your waist.

you were pulled into Akira's chest, his hands quickly wrapping around your body, squeezing you slightly. he pushed your head into his neck, before pressing a quick kiss to the crown of your head. you smiled into him, wrapping your arms around him as well.

notes: akira kurusu for protag, fluff, fem!reader, reader is a phantom thief, this might be sliiightly inaccurate since i haven't touched p5 in a while and idc to check myself

you were grinding through mementos one day with the rest of the phantom thieves, and things were going pretty well! shadows were being slain, treasure was being looted, and you were overall having a fun time riding around in morgana's van form.

you were grateful, though, for makoto's recent membership of the team. she was better at driving the van than akira was (bless his heart), which meant she took the wheel while akira sat in the passenger's seat, telling her where to go.

you sat behind him in the second row of seats, often leaning your head on the seat in front of you, sometimes babbling to get akira's attention. he'd always reach back to ruffle your hair or playfully offset your mask.

but your attention always drifted to his hair - his soft and undoubtedly fluffy head of black feathery hair. you'd been together for a while, so physical interactions weren't uncommon, but you've never really asked him if you could play with his hair.

you really, really wanted to play with his hair. holy shit, you wanted nothing more than to do that. but now wasn't the right time, being in mementos and all. you'd have to strategise for another time.

thankfully, that time came when after leaving mementos, akira invited you back to leblanc to destress and chill out. he'd make some coffee, you two would chat and cuddle, probably watch some tv.

you accepted, obviously, and taking his hand in yours, led you through the subway system to yongen-jaya and to leblanc. after pouring the two of you a damn good cup of coffee, you two went upstairs to his room in the attic.

after watching a few episodes of that cheesy action show you two like to riff on (and getting the neo featherman r theme song stuck in your head), you two migrated to his bed. akira sat down and extended his arms, inviting you in for a spooning sesh, but you waved your hands in denial.

after a puzzled and slightly pouty look from your boyfriend, you clarified what you meant: "i wanna be big spoon. i kinda... wanna play with your hair? is that cool?"

akira's eyes lit up and he adjusted his glasses that slipped down his face. a slightly goofy grin played across his lips and he shuffled on the bed, allowing you to slot yourself behind him.

"yeah, sure! go right ahead."

you quickly got to work, running your hands through his hair (which was still surprisingly soft and felt like heaven's clouds within your fingertips). you twirled some strands around your digits here and there and massaged his scalp.

akira leaned his head back into your touch, smiling all the while. you could've sworn you heard him purring (maybe that was your imagination, or maybe he was spending too much time with morgana).

you pressed a kiss to the side of his temple and kept playing with his hair long into the night...

A/n: Ahhhh I'm loving P5R and I'm loving Ren very much!

Ren was many things growing up. He was rather lackadaisical, unsure of himself, and oftentimes, just plain messy. He was caring and sweet, but his airheadedness had, on multiple occasions, led to some awkward encounters with other people. It was mostly through growing up together that you had understood what he really meant, but not everyone was willing to make the time. 

You two had been inseparable as kids, always doing everything with one another. You had seen each other at your most awkward and weirdest- like when you got braces or when he broke his arm trying to do cool moves on the jungle gym. You dressed up in matching costumes and outfits for all sorts of events. He even took you to the middle school dance when no one else bothered with you two. You shared your dreams, worst nightmares, struggles- everything. 

Yet, that connection had to be strained when your parents were relocated to Tokyo for work. 

His home just wasn’t the same without you. So you two tried to keep contact with each other every day. Texting, calling, sending emails or doing video calls together was such a normal part of his routine. 

He told you about how your old home was doing, anything new that was going (there was rarely anything new, though) so a majority of it was spent discussing Tokyo. 

“You’d never believe all the lights! It’s crazy bright over here.” 

“Yeah, I don’t think I can. Sounds like a hassle, though. Aren’t all those people and lights annoying?” 

You only laughed at his response- of course shy and withdrawn Ren would never love a city like this. 

Years passed and you two did your best to continue talking, but slowly every day became every other day, to maybe once a week, to sporadically whenever. There was just a lot to deal with, and life at Shujin Academy was anything but easy. He just had to settle for brief text messages and possible calls and gifts for things like birthdays and holidays. 

He was stressed after his hearing, so he broke his personal rule of trying to leave you some space to send a message. 

Hey it’s kinda urgent do you have time to call? 

“Hey, Ren, what’s u-,” you gasped. You looked at him like he was an alien from outer space, and he figured it must be because of how awful he looked right now. 

“Something wrong? You just stopped talking,” he commented. 

“Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry. What’s up? You said it was urgent. Are you doing okay?” You sent a barrage of questions his way and Ren slid a hand through his hair. 

“Want the good news or bad news first?” He responded, ignoring your questions. 

“Um…” you rose an eyebrow at what he could have possibly done to warrant this question. “Bad first?” 

“I’m on probation.” 

“WHAT?” You screamed, yet Ren didn’t flinch. “What do you mean probation? What the hell did you do?” 

“Some asshole framed me for assault when I was protecting a woman,” he casually answered, as if it was just a normal occurrence for him. 

“Seriously? And you still got in trouble?” 

“Yeah. It sucks, honestly,” he sighed. 

“Jeez I’m…” You looked crestfallen at his explanation and he felt bad he made you feel so glum. “I’m sorry.” 

“Not your fault. Besides, there’s some good news.” 

“What’s the good news? Please don’t give me another heart attack.” 

“I’m moving to Tokyo. Some guy my parents are friends with is taking me in while I’m on probation. And I’m going to that Sunshine Academy you go to.” 

“It’s Shujin, for one thing,” you corrected him. “But you’re really coming to Tokyo? Oh my gosh, it’s gonna be like the old times again! I have so many places to show you and take you! You’re gonna love it, I promise.”

“Eh, I dunno. I’m just gonna try and avoid those places. Sorry, I know you probably wanted it to be super fun and all, but I don’t wanna go to jail. It’s a miracle they even left me with only probation. I’m even donning a disguise.” 

“A disguise? What do you mean?” 

He pulled up a pair of black, thick-framed glasses. 

You pinched the bridge of your nose and shook your head. 

“That’s not a disguise. Come on, Ren, you can’t be serious.” 

“I am. Look,” he put the glasses on and you stared at him deeply. You looked deep in thought and he wondered what was crossing your mind. “See? No one would punch a guy with glasses.” 

“You’re hopeless,” you chuckled at his antics. 

“But you still love me, right?” He whined, pouting like a child. 

“Of course,” you said, the words slipping right out of you. A warm smile crept on your lips as you gazed at him. “So… when you come to Tokyo, I’ll make sure you have the best probation ever. You can even visit my house. It’s got a nice view of the city and we have a great diner nearby.” 

He smiled for what felt like the first time in a while since this miserable incident. 

“Thanks, (Y/n), I know I can always count on you.” 

A few more pleasantries were exchanged and you two logged off, leaving him staring alone at his own reflection from his computer. He looked down at himself and frowned. 

Great, he was going to see his best friend (and crush) for the first time in years, and it’s because he was accused of committing a crime. In some ways, though, he felt safe with you and could put his probation aside. 

He hoped you would continue to be his friend in Tokyo. It was probably going to be a long year there, and he wasn’t looking forward to all the judgmental people. So much for being a guy you could depend on. Just like always, you were the one who would have to help him and accept him. He wished he was not this lame dude who couldn’t even handle a few rumors, but this isolation was killing him.

Ren always knew he wasn’t the most attractive guy ever. Or the smartest. Or the most courageous or confident. Barely had any talents or future aspirations beyond “just make it to the weekend”. He was pretty below-average, all things considered. And he was honest about that, like he was with pretty much everything else. He didn’t like beating around the bush or lying to others. 

Sadly, his big mouth got him into this probation (he still didn’t regret it) but man, it was exhausting to try and bite his tongue back at every opportunity. 

He couldn’t fight back or argue when the people made audacious claims about him. Couldn’t say a thing when people purposefully riled him up to get him to act out. Ren couldn’t even properly ask out the best friend he had loved since they were kids. Nor could he defend them whenever someone tried to spread rumors about them because of their association with him. 

But, that was Ren. 

Joker, however, was a completely different story. Joker was cool, suave, elegant- everything the clumsy second-year wasn’t. He could flirt with monsters and defeat evil while looking completely badass doing it. 

But it’s not like he could be Joker all the time, not with the Phantom Thieves working in the shadows and him still being under the watchful eye of almost everyone in society. He had to keep it quiet. 

Joker was Ren’s safe space to act out and be the man he wished to be. No one knew who he was, no one held any expectations for him- they just knew he was there to get the job done. And he did it, flawlessly, every time. 

Which is why it was frustrating Ren would get so tongue-tied the minute he wished to talk to you. 

The years were kind to you- very kind to you, actually- and he marveled at how you grew to be more confident and proud than when you were younger. You had a steady head on your shoulders, leading you to be the secretary of the student council and great in your club activities. 

He wished he could spill everything to you, everything about the Phantom Thieves, the Metaverse, personas- it would be so much easier if you knew. But he knew that if he bothered, you would simply laugh and say he probably was pounding too many energy drinks. None of it was believable, even to his own self. 

He hated lying to you, he despised it so much, but you were too understanding to call him out on his bullshit. You knew he was lying through his teeth about being ‘busy’, and he knew you were lying when you would smile and say you were ‘fine’ when he would miss out on another outing. 

He didn’t know how to make it up to you or truly admit he was the Phantom Thief that had grown so popular. 

He had brought this question up to his team members, and frankly, all of them were sending mixed signals. 

“Do not reveal your identity to them! They could be a traitor and rat us all out! Or worse, they could try and use you!” Makoto would say. 

“You should totally reveal it! And you love them a lot, right? Maybe you can make it up to them by taking them to an all-you-can-eat buffet with extra dessert!” Ann squealed. 

“No, make it meat! They gotta love that, right?” Ryuji would add. 

“I would say a buffet is not classy enough. You wish to showcase your heart’s true intentions to them, no? You should whisk them away to a beautiful resort and craft a gorgeous jewel that they can wear to remind them of you and-” 

“Yusuke… you do recognize Ren is a poor high school kid, right?” Futaba raised an eyebrow. “I don’t think he even has a dollar to his name, right now.” 

“I have twenty dollars to my name, thank you very much,” Ren corrected. “Wait- no- that’s not the point.” 

And then he was back to square one. Sure, he read Reckless Casanova and The Art of Charm, and it did help as Joker, but he was helpless when it came to you. 

There’s no way you’d like whimpering, pathetic Ren, especially when compared to the city boys of Tokyo, who were way flashier, energetic, and could treat you right. Unlike him, who couldn’t even say a word when people smeared your name. 

That’s when a thought came to mind- he should confess to you as Joker! Joker was everything Ren was not, and you’d surely fall for him, right? All he’d have to do is play it cool as Joker, and you’d be swooning for him in no time!

He imagined the scenario in his head.

You were there, sitting in your dark room with your balcony window open. He would jump through the buildings and smoothly glide to your balcony. You would be breathless at the sight of this handsome phantom thief, who looked so similar to someone you knew, but unlike him, this man was cooler. Better. Smarter. He was the entire package. 

You would be crying over that lame good-for-nothing boy who gave you nothing but trouble, and Joker would wipe your tears away. 

Perhaps he’d say a really nice line in French to really hammer in the ‘phantom thief’ act. You’d embrace him and he’d confess your undying love to him, and you would accept it in a heartbeat. 

Yeah, this plan had zero chance of failing.

Ren, donning his disguise and mask, descended upon your rooftop. He made sure to be as quiet as possible, hoping to fulfill the dream movie scenario he had planned up. It was foolproof, he’d smugly thought. 

As he was preparing to jump down to your balcony, he noticed something shuffling near him. 

Was it someone watching him? He turned back to see a group of rats in the darkness, watching him. 

“Shoo! Go away!” He swatted at them. Some went scrambling and he thought he was in the clear. That was until he heard their chittering and squeaking. The group had ran back to him and were hissing at him, and he brought out his dagger. “Shit-!” 

The rats lunged at him and he quickly jumped down on your balcony to avoid getting bitten by one of them. He crashed onto the floor and groaned in pain, cursing the rats and the concrete of the balcony. 

He heard some shuffling and the balcony door swung open, revealing a very angry you with your cellphone at your side. 

“Wonder what-” you screamed as you locked eyes with him, and slammed the door shut. “Who the hell are you?! Get the hell out of here or I’m calling the police!” 

You typed something on your phone and Ren was panicking. Shit, he couldn’t mess up or get caught by the police. That would ruin his life and everyone else in the Phantom Thieves’s life. 

“W-wait! S’il vous plait!” He screeched one of the few phrases of French he knew. He slapped himself internally at the fact he even used French when you were trying to call the cops. 

Great job, brainiac. 

You seemed taken aback by him until you put your phone down and raised a knowing eyebrow at him. 

“Ren? What are you doing?” You asked.

Now he was in deep shit. He quickly stood up and posed by the balcony, as if he was just casually strolling by. 

“I don’t know who-” Crap, I can’t use my voice. He cleared his throat and tried to make it deeper. “Uh, I mean, I don’t know who this ‘Ren’ person is.” 

You looked unimpressed, and he knew his cover was blown. 

“Ren, what’s with the get up and trying to break into my house?” 

“I assure you, (Y/n), I was not trying to break into your house!” He answered in his fake, deep voice. 

You strode over to him, and he leaned back into the balcony ledge, trying to avoid touching you. 

Too close! Too fast! Shit! Abort! Abort! Abort mission! We’ll get them next time!

“So, mysterious stranger who is not Ren,” you sarcastically began, “what are you doing here?” 

You stepped closer and he leaned closer against the edge. He peered down and saw how far below the sidewalk was and gulped. 

“I-I am- gah!” He felt his body slip over the ledge after he tried to lean against it. He yelped and quickly brought out his grappling hook and shot it to your balcony, before slinging himself back up. 

He sat on the ledge, crossing his leg over the other and running a hand through his hair as if he wasn’t about to fall to his death just seconds before. 

“I couldn’t help but um, couldn’t help but be taken aback with your beauty, mon amour!” He dramatically stated, winking at you and handing you a (crumpled) rose he had picked out earlier for this very moment. 

Unlike in the dream sequence he conjured up, you were not breathless or swooning- instead, you were laughing. 

“Oh my gosh, Ren, what the hell is all this?” You said in between bouts of laughter. 

Normally, he loved your laugh, but in this situation, he felt his pride crumble to dust. 

“I… I, uh…” Not even Joker could save him. He could practically hear Arsene in the back of his head howling in laughter at the way he messed up. 

Ren sighed and took off the mask. 

“Yeah, okay, you figured it out, it’s me,” he said, defeated and exhausted. You wiped the tears out of your eyes and examined him. 

“Wait, no way! You’re part of the Phantom Thieves-” you loudly exclaimed, and Ren shushed you quickly. 

“You can’t reveal it out loud! I’m not even supposed to be here!” 

“Sorry,” you complied, whispering to him. “You’re part of the Phantom Thieves?” 

He nodded. 

“Yes, you’re looking at the leader of them.” 

“No way…” You stared, gobsmacked. 

“Listen, I get it, it’s hard to believe and you may think I’m crazy but-” 

“Huh? This explains everything!” You grinned. “I just… I just thought you were avoiding me and didn’t wanna see me again. You avoided me for so long and always hung out with the others, I assumed you got tired of me! But really, you were a part of the Ph-” 

“Shhhh! Not so loud!” He whisper-shouted. 

You fanned yourself and he noticed your eyes were becoming wet with tears. Your face was turning red and you were straining yourself to not cry.

“Crap, I didn’t mean to make you cry,” he apologized. “This wasn’t how I wanted this to go…” 

“Well, you idiot, of course you make me cry. We were best friends and this whole time I thought you hated me. Why didn’t you just tell me sooner? Why didn’t you trust me? Did you think I would have told on you? And now you’re coming here randomly at night and pretending you’re not even you! Don’t you know how that looks to me?” 

“I know, I know I…” he shamefully looked at the ground. “I know. I messed up. I messed up really bad but that’s why I came. I didn’t know who to trust, and I didn’t want you to get hurt because of me. And I see that I was the fool for not believing in you to begin with. You were always too good for me, (Y/n). So I wanted to be upfront with you and give you this.” 

Ren extended his hand to show the broken rose again as he rubbed the back of his neck. 

“I’m not perfect. I’m not as handsome, or as rich, or as cool as the other guys and I am a huge coward. I run at every opportunity. But I wanted to have you see me as… you know… someone better than me. Someone who could treat you right, defend you, and not have you always try to care for them. I know I’ve been an asshole, and I wanted to fix it. I wanted to just be someone you could rely on for a moment. Because you mean the world to me. Always have.” 

You gasped and he looked at you to see your reaction. A few tears had fallen down your cheek and you covered your mouth in shock. 

“Sorry, I know you’re probably upset so I’ll leave-” he began, putting a leg over the ledge to jump down when you grabbed him. 

“D-don’t walk away, idiot! You didn’t even let me respond!” You shouted tearfully. He settled back onto the balcony and you threw your arms around him. “You’re really dense. You’re not a bother to me and I don’t want anyone but you. I don’t want this Joker guy, or those other people in our school. I just want you, Ren. Did you really think I would continue hoping for you to see me more if I didn’t care for you? Did you really think I would wait around for just about anybody?” 

Now he felt his face heat up. 

“Wait, you mean it? You like me too?” His gray eyes sparkled under the moonlight and his smile was wide. He must have looked so stupid, but he didn’t care at this moment. He was just happy you didn’t hate him and actually liked him!

“Yes, but if you wanna make it up to me, you have to promise something.” You pushed yourself off of him for a brief moment and had a serious look on your face. 

“Anything.” 

“No more lying to me like that. Please don’t hide things from me.” 

“I promise.” 

“Good. Don’t underestimate the both of us together. I rely on you just as much as you rely on me, silly. You don’t have to be anything other than you. I like how dorky and lame you are sometimes.” 

Ren let out an offended gasp. 

“I’m not dorky!” You smirked and pulled him down by the collar. He felt his heart race a mile a minute and he was curious what you were going to do next. 

“Shut up and kiss me already, Ren,” you laughed, and he felt himself melt at the sound of your voice. 

“Of course, my treasure,” he grinned as he tried to go through every tip those romantic books wrote in his head. 

He pressed his lips against yours gently, almost unsure if he should even go through with it. You kissed him back and he felt himself slowly let go of his insecurities and enjoy your presence like this. 

The need for air arose so he (unfortunately) separated himself from you. You laughed quietly as you stared into his eyes, and he wanted to memorize every detail about you. 

“You kiss a bit too well, Ren, don’t tell me you practiced with someone else?” You teased. 

“N-no I just… read a lot of books.” You snorted at his response and pressed a kiss to his nose. 

“Gosh, you’re the best. Don’t tell me you also learned your terrible French from those books too?” 

“Maybe…” 

Sure he wasn’t perfect, but in this moment. There was nobody he’d rather be than himself in all his imperfect glory.

It was a rocky start

You always kept your head down and try to avoid him, due to his criminal record.

Amamyia eventually gets you to talk to him.

The conversations are short and you avoid eye contact

You're like this to everyone, expect your family of course

Eventually, you start to warm up to him. You start to talk about your interests.

If you go somewhere to eat, you usually have a hard time talking loudly. Ren will help you out, so you won't be embarrassed about talking to a stranger.

Since you're both a quiet, you often like to just sit into silence.

When he confessed to you, your brain just stopped functioning. Your eyes were wide and face red like a tomato.

You got out of your dazed and quickly told him that you loved them too.

He holds your hand a lot. He likes to see your little red face.

He sneaks a small peck on your cheek while you are distracted. Again, he likes to see your red face.

If you were brave enough to give him a kiss first, he will smile at you brightly and give you many kisses

If you are in one of each other's room, you cuddle. You mostly cuddle if you two are either bored or sleepy

You got really shock when he came out as the leader of the Phantom Thieves

You told him that you will support him no matter what.
