I LOVE  this discourse about why people think harry is groundbreaking!! because he's marketed as Straight and For the Ladies, the things he does are very mainstream and widely popular, not to mention the fact that there hasn't been a Queer Icon for a decade or so to the level of Bowie or Mick Jagger or etc etc. So all of that combined means it looks like a Mainstream White Cishet Pop Ladiez Man is doing something groundbreaking, and although it is groundbreaking for that particular demographic, it's nothing new at all. Which is why he looks like he's queerbaiting and/or stealing from queer culture, bc people that don't know the classics think he's making a completely new path.

and I've always said stevie and harry's friendship is a pr strategy but people hate to hear it. I'm not saying they're not actually friends, but there's clearly some push to bring that friendship up a lot, especially since we know harry is friends with other people *coughonedirectioncough* and those friendships never get brought up.

There's no reason niall shouldn't have the hype that harry does. He had such a well thought out and interesting pr strategy with his little video snippets and the week on the late late show and everything else. the only reason i can think of that niall would not be getting the hype he so clearly deserves is an intentional move on tptb's part.

I really think that we as a fandom should unpack how it’s Very Cool to like harry styles right now but not as cool to like any of the other 1d members despite all of them being very successful and being equally as unique as harry is. and also how it’s extremely cool to like harry in a way that it was NEVER cool to like one direction.
