My design for King Ghidorah in Brothers of Ash. Depending on where I decide to start the story, he'll either show up pretty early or much later.

Anyway, lore under cut and a drawing where I experimented with colors.

Three Songs, also known as King Ghidorah, Monster Zero, Subject 0, Armless, and The Fallen Sun (damn, he's got a lot of names), was one of the Xillians "projects". He is a modified dorat, which is an alien species that the Xillians have collected and bred into domestication.

Backstory aside. Each head has their own mind and personality.

Logos, the middle head with red eyes, is the brains of the operation. He is critical and strategic, always devising a course of action. He's the most responsible, seeing the other two heads as his responsibility and considers them when thinking things through. Logos is the most calm and quiet of the heads. When he does speak, it's usually in response to something. He rarely speaks unprompted.

Pathos, the right head with green eyes, is the most aggressive. He's very raw and passionate, reacting strongly to almost everything. He's impatient, rude, selfish, and rash. He's the most honest of the group, although he hides his true emotions with anger as a defense mechanism. He clashes with the other heads a lot, often disagreeing with Logos and finding Eidos annoying. Out of all the heads, he likes fighting the most, anything to let off steam.

Eidos, the left head with blue eyes, is a carefree jokester. He's very curious and loves exploring and learning. He's the most observant, often noticing things that the other heads didn't. Unfortunately, his inquisitive nature makes his attention span fleeting. He likes teasing and joking with pretty much everyone (including enemies that are about to rip his throat out to make him shut up). He's also the most talkative, either commenting on something, asking questions, or pushing someone's buttons.

And now, here's me experimenting with colors.

I finally made designs for Rodan and Jr as babies. Yay! Or at least, what they looked like when Space Godzilla showed up. Kaiju growth stages are wild.

A species of Scansoriopterygid kaiju, they were mutated by a radon leak in the mine they lived in, eventually making them break out as their size rapidly grew, 3 Rodans are known as of right now: a female, her mate and their chick, all nesting near El Chichón, Mexico.

I finally broke and decided to write my own kongzilla fic. I'm currently on chapter 4, but I plan to at least get past the events from The New Empire before I post anything publicly. To be honest, I'm new to sharing stuff online and AO3 scares me.

The funny thing is, what made me want to write a kongzilla fic was Rodan. He's either never mentioned or is just a minor character. But he has so much potential!

Him and Shimo have opposing abilities, fire and ice. I think it would be cute if they bonded on their extreme temperatures, like the struggle to avoid freezing or setting everything on fire. Or maybe when they touch, they create fog because they cancel each other out. And they both know what it was like to work for the 'bad guy'. I want Rodan to reflect on how guilty he feels for doing Ghidorah's bidding and for Shimo to comfort him and tell him that their situations were different. Scar King needed Shimo, he couldn't kill her. Ghidorah didn't need Rodan, he could've killed him.

And imagine Rodan and Suko in the same room AND while Godzilla and Kong are going through a "will they, won't they" situation. Rodan would be the fun uncle that constantly gets into trouble with Suko. When they are together, Godzilla and Kong's anxieties spike to 100.

I also headcanon all Rodans to be social creatures that can't live without family. The first film had a mated pair that died together because one couldn't live without the other. The heisei Rodan was a surrogate older brother trying to save his little brother. And in the end he sacrificed his life because his ADOPTED little brother told him to. So yep, I think Rodan would admire Kong to some extent. He didn't submit when an alpha titan beat him in a fight, he found his family and is doing everything to care for them. Kong is what Rodan could be.

Another headcanon of mine is that Godzilla and Rodan are old friends. Blame the showa era for making it impossible for me not to see a close bond between the two. Imagine how tricky things got after the whole Ghidorah thing. Do they talk about? Do they fight over it? Do they treat each other like lifelong companions or has Godzilla changed since he became the protector of the world? Rodan did seem scared of him in KOTM.

I promise the fic won't just be about Rodan! I just think it'd be a nice side plot to actually characterize him. I mean, look at all the potential dynamics! Mothra and Shimo can work together to get Godzilla and Kong to kiss while Rodan and Suko work together to embarrass them at every progression of their relationship.

So, I might as well share the refs for Godzilla: Ascension's two other kaiju protagonists... say hello to Mothra Akane and Rodan Calderon!

Akane and Calderon are individual/identifying names. In Akane's case it's to distinguish her from the previous incarnations of Mothra (Mothra's reincarnation in Ascension works like the Avatar Cycle from ATLA and a little bit like regeneration from Doctor Who- each incarnation is their own person, though with access to the memories/knowledge of and ability to commune with the spirits of their forebears). In Calderon's case it's to distinguish him from his parents, Radon Amihan and Rodan Elio (both of whom are sadly deceased by the time of the main story).

When the youngest becomes the tallest. I decided to tweek their designs a little. I think Jr looks way better now, I'm actually proud of his new look. Unfortunately, I still have to draw his full body reference.
