Sables Tma Doodle Series - Tumblr Posts

Day one of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus Archives until I get bored. For Angler Fish I went back and forth on exactly what to do a lot because this is legitimately one of my favorite episodes and it’s such a good pilot episode.

Day two of doing a doodle for every episode and the magnus archives until I get bored. Episode two! Featuring the creepy coffin and Joshua Gellespie, man of many brain cells.

Day three of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus Archives until I get bored. Oh boys, we’re really in it now. The first time I heard this episode was legitimately magical, the whole idea and vibe of this episode is so good, and of course it’s the first appearance of the NotThem, so you know I’m invested. This one was very fun to do because I had such a clear idea of what I wanted, I’m putting like no effort into these, but I’m really happy with how this one came out.

Day four of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus Archives, until I get bored. I fully forgot that this episode was so early in the series, but in honor of the first appearance of my beloved Gerry Keay, the first appearance of a Leitner, and the first mention of Mike Crew, we have my favorite one of these so far.

Day five of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus Archives until I get bored. Number five, not a lot to do here and not one of my favorites, but that’s not really the point of this exercise now is it?

Day six of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus Archives until I get bored. Day six sort of ended up being more themed towards Jane, or maybe the corruption in general, but yeah I like it, I might have to do a fully Jane Prentiss themed doodle at some point.

Day seven of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives until I get bored. This one was funky, but this episode is really special to me as it’s the one that kind of cemented me on the series, I was already hooked, but this was the first one that made me realize how emotional and legitimately beautiful the series could and would get, and I adore it for that.

Day eight of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. Bada boom, welcome to the House on Hilltop Road baby, first statement involving Agnes Montague my beloved, and the very first hint of a mention of the distortion. I didn’t spend a huge amount of time on this one, but I had a decent idea of what I wanted to do, plus I’m honestly treating this as an exercise, and you don’t get irritated for one of your push ups isn’t as good as it could be, you finish it and do another set tomorrow.

Day nine of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives until I get bored. Julia Montork is one of my favorites, and this episode starts a theme among some of my favorite episodes of the early tma seasons, and that is how unreliable everyone is as a narrator when they have no clue what the hell is happening, I think Julia’s statement stands out in this, especially on first listen, because of the fact that she’s a child, and both she, and us as the audience, know that she doesn’t know anything, not just about the spooky stuff, and relistening to the series is fun because you know more about what’s happening than any character, and you can fill in the gaps like Julia herself does as she tells her story.

Day ten of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. Double digits babes! This is honestly farther than I expected to get with this series and as a reward I did a little character drawing, if you have seen my page you know I usually do a lot of characters and faces, and I’ve been trying to break away from that and do more design based things for this series, but I decided to treat myself for this one. So enjoy a little Trevor Herbert, the vampire killer.

Day eleven of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. This wasn’t one of my favorite episodes on the first time through, partially because I had already kind of picked up the vibes that some sketchy shit had happened to Gertrude, but I definitely like it a lot more when I relisten, I mean who’s going to be mad about some Oliver Banks? Anyway total throw away facts from this episode I love, 1) mans is a former account. 2) he worked at the crystal and tarot shop with Jane. And 3) the fact that Oliver canonically dated Graham the notebook guy. This man ends up on future badass Martin’s mental hit list and is one of the least threatening characters in the series, love him.

Day twelve of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, but I get bored. Guess who’s back? Gerard Keay just inspires me to draw a lot of funky little eyes what can I say? Anyway POV you’re a nurse who’s looking forward to not working in the accident ward during Christmas and a goth eye wizard and an old man with fire powers start fighting at 3 am.

Day thirteen of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. Our first live statement boys! This episode is also the first time I picked up on one of my favorite mechanics of the series, although I didn’t realize it until later obviously, but I was sitting listening to the live statement and going “wow this sounds really polished and well put together, I wish the acting was a little more natural” and obviously, surprise! That’s a feature not a flaw!

Day 14 of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. Oh boy I love flesh statements and this one is funky, I like it. But nothing will ever make me laugh quite as much as the difference between season one “I sent Martin to look into this ‘Angela’ character, not that I want him to get chopped up of course, but someone had to.” Jon and....well you know. He’s a bitch and we like him so much.

Day 15 of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. I am so happy with this one, might be one of my favorite doodles I’ve done so far. I played a lot of Minecraft as a child.

Day 16 of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives until I get bored. Heck yeah baby, Carlos Vittery, the poor sap who busted a spider egg sack in the woods when he was six and then proceeded to spend the rest of his life making such logical decisions as, moving out of an apartment solely because there were spiders in his garden, kicking a television, getting and then getting rid of a cat, and getting killed by spiders. Icon behavior.

Day 17 of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. I put way more effort into this one than most of them, but I definitely feel like I’m improving in my designs and executions as this series goes on, so that’s pretty cool, I can’t wait to see what my doodles look like if I manage to get through a couple seasons. Also, Jared the meat man.

Day 18 of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives, until I get bored. I forgot how much “weird meat shit” happens this early and we haven’t even gotten to The Killing Floor yet. I also realize I’ve never just drawn meat before for some reason? And I don’t know why because I had a ton of fun doing the muscle textures on this.

Day 19 of doing a little doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives until I get bored. Rip to father Edwin Burroughs, you stood no chance after getting your shit wrecked by not one, not two, but at least six fear gods, honestly you did about as well as one could expect. By my count you have The Web, The Flesh, The Spiral, The Eye, The Desolation, and The Strangers, all working overtime to fuck up this poor man’s life. No one was going to do well in that situation.
Oh and this is a two part episode and a two part doodle, so I’ll post a combination version tomorrow after I post the second half.

Day 20 of doing a doodle for every episode of the Magnus archives until I get bored. Wow we’re officially 1/10th of the way through the series, as well as half way through season one. Anyway it’s the return of everyone’s favorite cannibal priest, by the time I post this I should also have the full version of this posted where I have the doodle from part one and this one on the same image.
