What if Odysseus and Penelope wrote letters to each other while they were apart?

Part 1: Troy

Odysseus was excited, to say the least.

For ten years, all throughout the course of the war, all he had thought about were his wife and son at home. And now he was finally going to see them again.

In the meantime, he wrote, as he had for the past decade.

Dearest love of mine…

Every last letter, from the beginning of the war until the end, had started off the same way. This time, however, Odysseus’s joy knew no bounds.

Dearest love of mine, The war is over. We have won. After all these years of turmoil, Troy and Achaea are finally at peace. How is our son, Telemachus? Surely must have grown into a fine prince by now. How are matters in Ithaca? Hopefully, all is well and you are living in peace. Although, I’m sure you have ruled well even in my absence. I deeply admire your courage and strength. There is so much more I want to ask you; so much I want to say. But I will wait. I’m coming home, Penelope. I’ll finally see you again. Wait for me.

A knock at his door made him jump. The door creaked opened as Eurylochus appeared belowdecks. “Captain?” he prompted. “We are ready.”

Odysseus rose from his chair, his smile nearly spreading off his face. “Full speed ahead, brother.”
