Sam And Max Au - Tumblr Posts
I absolutely do not have the energy to draw this out but fffff-
I gotta type this out right now or I’ll forget it
since various people are making Sam and Max gothic-ish alternate universes, I shall plop my idea for one here
• Jekyll and Hyde AU
This alternate universe would feature Sam as Jekyll/Hyde and Max as his partner/lab assistant. It would take place in London in the olden days. Max would be the one who created the experiment, and Sam tested it since he wants to take down thugs in street, and of course it ends in disaster. Sam develops a dangerous split personality, his Hyde. Max immediately realizes the danger he has created, and must find a way to free his dearest companion without causing harm to him. Meanwhile, Sam begins to crack under the pressure of having his own self taunt him and cause harm to the people he once called his acquaintances. Hyde Sam would be just as unhinged as a normal Hyde can be, but with an uncomfortable obsession with Max. For the endgame, I’m thinking either generic sad ending with Max ultimately having to take Sam out of his misery, taking Hyde with him or them finding a way to save him. Flint Paper could serve as a detective searching for Hyde but never realizing it’s his good friend Sam/Samuel. For the designs, typical victorian clothing. I imagine Sam in a fancy petticoat and his Hyde-self in typical cloak and hat but his fur is messy and he’s foaming at the mouth. Max would be in simpler clothing, but still clothed. Flint would be in black clothing, a detective that looks formal. I imagine this AU would work much better in the context of the Gothic Musical (because I love it to death) and I just love the thought of Sam with Anthony Warlow’s voice. Also the idea of Sam transforming into his Hyde self at his and Max’s wedding is perfect angst material.
Other characters such as Girl Stinky can be included. I can imagine she could fit in a role as a girl of the night, but perhaps a spy with Sal as her partner? Mama Bosco can fit in as an another scientist helping aid Sam and Max in their pursuit. Skunkape could possibly be a second antagonist, perhaps Jergen can fit in too?
With any context I guess any character can fit in there. I’m only the best at fitting ideas in short bursts, ha. I’m genuinely sorry if anyone else has had this idea as it’s a fairly common AU premise. But, I’ll hopefully come back to this post with some art but I’m terrible at drawing both Sam and Max so I will try to make it look…some what decent, haha. Until then, thank you for reading through my small idea, I greatly appreciate it.
Hyde!Sam and Max for reference
this was the only good sketch I could churn out, damn my art style not being able to adapt to these two. I am getting better, especially with drawing Max, but I still need practice (especially with their front profiles).
for even more reference, Hyde!Sam and Max’s relationship is supposed to be toxic. Hyde is obsessed with Max, with Max being afraid of him somewhat. It’s supposed to be like a dog hunting down a rabbit, it doesn’t end well for the bunny. Sam can control Hyde’s actions with Max, but not very well, as Hyde controls his brain at those uncomfortable moments. So…Hyde says things that Sam would never say to Max. This, of course, puts strain on their relationship. Sam always apologizes for his behavior, though.

Samuel Jekyll and Maxwell (??) also known as Sam and Max. Two wee lads who live together in the old stone house across the meat pie shop in the heart of town. They’ve jumped from various careers, were once a rouge sort of police force. Now, with Samuel’s push, they are developing a scientific experiment to separate men’s evil from good. They were denied by the board of governors, as I suppose they are now conducting the experiment on their own. For now…I know nothing on them, but the city has asked me to investigate them on the recent murders. This especially hurts my heart since Samuel is a good friend of mine, but I will do what I must for the good of London. — Flint Paper.

VICTORIAN CLOTHES ARE HARD TO DRAW.
I spent half of the 53 minutes on this reference just drawing the vests. But god, it’s a fun experience. Anyways!! Sam and Max reference for the Jekyll and Hyde AU! I especially had fun designing these, and researching victorian clothes as a whole! Planning to make a reference for Flint and Girl Stinky with perhaps Stinky too. Hyde!Sam will have his own separate reference. For what I’m planning to do with this AU?
If I can pull if off- Animatics of various songs from the musical. They’ll be slow, but I want them to look the best. Timeline in this AU song-wise is
Prologue + I Need to Know (track 1 and 2, focusing on Sam and Max wanting to know if Good can exist without evil)
Board of Governors (track 9, focusing on S&M pleading for a test subject for the experiment against the Board of Governor’s wishes)
Bring on The Men (track 10, Girl Stinky’s spotlight!)
Transformation (track 14, Sam decides “fuck it, let’s do it ourselves.” Sam consumes the formula as Max takes notes. This does not end well.)
Alive (Hyde breaks out and has some fun, Max chases. Hilarity ensues….?)
Mass (track 21, Hyde has just murdered one of the members of the Board. This leads to getting Flint’s attention and Max fears for Sam’s life.)
Murder, Murder! (Track 22, the townspeople of London conspire against the murders, and Flint investigates. Girl Stinky hides in the shadows as a Spy, with Sal in tow. Max is caught in the crowd, beginning to crack from the mental pressure.)
The World Has Gone Insane (track 26, Sam is in a very worse state than Max though. Hyde has sent him into a massive paranoia episode.)
No One Must Ever Know (track 28, my favorite song in the musical. Sam and Max pull through and prepare to try their hardest to fix this error and free Sam from Hyde.)
Confrontation (track 31, the standard edgy good personality vs evil personality one. Sam battles Hyde as Max rushes to complete the formula that should fix everything.)
The Wedding Reception (track 32, subject to being cut. Takes place after months Sam has been freed from Hyde, and Sam and Max’s wedding has just finished. I hope nothing bad happens. :,) )
if that fails, either a comic or a story. I still have a lot of planning to do. Hope you guys enjoy my little summary of the plot.
