At any rate, they were married last week in Plymouth.
Have you ever done/do you know if there is a ranking of Jane Austen couples based on how long they knew each other before the proposal? Every time I reread Pride and Prejudice I can’t help but think about how little time Jane and Bingley have actually spent together

This is a wonderful idea! I have it ready. Here are all the couples that marry in each book with sufficient data for me to record. This is from meeting to engagement:
Now if we put them in order of length, we can see just how very short some of these relationships were:
Caveats: I was as exact as possible, so for example, despite "knowing" Mr. Bingley for about a year, Jane only spent 6 weeks in his actual presence. I also took out Wentworth's absence from Anne from Dec to Feb 15 etc.
I want to say something about time not being the same. Harriet and Robert Martin were staying at the same house for 2 months, so that's a lot more face to face time than say Jane and Bingley, but I don't have a great way to represent that.
We do not have sufficient data for Jane Fairfax & Frank Churchill or Maria Bertram & James Rushworth, though I would estimate about 8 weeks for the latter couple. John Willoughby also knew Sophia Grey for an unspecified amount of time before the more official courtship and marriage. Mr. Weston and Miss Taylor is also unknown, Emma predicted it 4 years prior, but we can assume they had met before that time.
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Collins knew each other for about 10 days before the proposal, but that did not result in a marriage. Henry Crawford and Fanny Price is again difficult, because while Henry and Fanny were introduced and “knew” each other, he didn’t pay attention to her until the Miss Bertrams left. Also did not end in a marriage. From "hole in her heart" to proposal was only about a month.
If we take out the outliers (Marianne and Colonel Brandon, Emma and Mr. Knightley, and Fanny and Edmund), we can see the longest period of knowing is Lydia and Mr. Wickham! But most are under 15 weeks or about 3.5 months
Of course, the length of time may not be important after all, Mrs. Croft says, "“We had better not talk about it, my dear... for if Miss Elliot were to hear how soon we came to an understanding, she would never be persuaded that we could be happy together. I had known you by character, however, long before.” - Persuasion
But yeah, from a modern perspective these lifelong decisions are happening pretty darn quick!

I swear to god if those men in the Ted Lasso writers room pull out a sense and sensibility themed plot.
The older more emotionally reserved leading lady who conceals her emotions but desperately wants love.
The younger hopeless romantic who wants to be swept off her feet.
The hopless romantic enters into an exciting world wind romance with a rich attractive partner who showers her with attention and gifts. Unfortunately, they have a public scandal which they had already done once before and they choose their reputation over our leading lady.
Eventually, the hopeless romantic realizes that the grumpy old man who’s been looking out for her and allows her to be herself while grounding her is the one for her and they end up happily together.
Back to our other leading lady.
She ends up with the kind man who does not appear to be agreat romantic lead but boasts a quiet intimacy that makes people attach to him, including a previous relationship that is still prominent in his life. Everyone notes how good of friends they are because no one suspects there could be anything but friendship - they continuly miss chances and hold emotions close to their chests. Both putting others needs before their own happiness. Our leading lady eventually lets her guard down and allows herself to express her emotions to him instead of keeping them to herself. They too end up happily together.

I just read the first chapter of Calm after the storm and I love it. 😍
I just wanted to tell you one thing that kinda bothered me. At some point you wrote that people are calling Heaven female Hitler. I don’t know where you’re from what beliefs you follow or not and I totally accept that you might not feel the same as I do. I’m from France and I’m not Jewish but have friends whose grandparents had that horrific tattoo and/or were the only surviving member of their whole family so I might come across as too sensitive but believe me around me no one would ever use that name even as an insult for someone unless they’re responsible of a genocide or have clearly shown nazy ideologies. So far she only seems a bit ruthless and maybe self-centered so I think “female Devil” might be more appropriate. I don’t know why but in a way it’s less shocking than that crazy man who murder millions of people.
I don’t know if I’ve managed to make myself clear but basically I feel like Hitler can only be used when speaking of genocide. In a way using it this way feels like it would participate in making that name “normal” and I think nobody wants that because it means normalizing what he did as well and that’s just unthinkable.
Again I understand that it’s my opinion and you may not share it. I’ll just thank you to even read it and consider what I tried to express.
No need to answer me. I know this is a social network and clearly not the place where you want to speak of that kind of things. I just couldn’t not say anything.

I admit that my knowledge about certain historical figures, like Hitler, is limited to what I've learned here and there. When I was writing, my intention was not to glorify or minimize the atrocities associated with such figures. Rather, I was focusing on the idea of how individuals can be perceived in different lights based on limited information.
I realize now that using such a controversial figure's name to describe a character, even if meant in a different context, can be insensitive and trigger negative emotions in others. I did not mean to offend anyone, and I genuinely apologize if my words caused any discomfort or upset.
Your feedback means a lot to me because it shows that you care about accuracy and sensitivity in storytelling. I promise to take this as a learning opportunity and be more mindful of the historical context and implications of the names and references I use in my writing.

Jane Austen was really out there 200 years ago writing lines like “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more” that to this day are still so swoon-worthy.

AHHH OKAY. so i'm like so excited my books came in 🤭 never in a million years would i have thought i would be excited to read but omg i wanna read emma so bad. i have this like free audio book thing from school that i'm gonna listen to and try and read like 5ish ? chapters a day so it'll prob take me like almost 2 weeks to finish which is fine i wanna take my time anyway.
okay so this is the one i got. it's on sale right now for only about $22 which is A STEAL IN MY OPINION. AND THEYRE PINK!!! they're paperback so i'm a bit worried abt bringing it to school but i'm still SUPER hyped.
the box came a bit damaged which is fine no biggie but the books idk what it's called the paper holdy thingy (it's a spine.) towards the top was a bit damaged. the pages themselves are fine!
other than that the books look great!! i'd totally recommend buying especially if you need to read for school this year. i'm not a huge fan of the cover art but that's just me! anyway ty for reading! i'll post updates about the books as a read them!
