A SPECIAL NOTE
As some of you know, I work as a lawyer on top of doing all of the various fandom things I do, including these spotlights. While I love doing the Spotlight Saturday posts, I can only do so much on my own. And with how busy I am, I sometimes fall behind and need some help. Before I begin with this week’s spotlight, some things to note:
These Spotlight Saturdays are my way of saying thank you and giving some love to my friends and other content creators in the fandoms I’m in. SO, as long as I am physically able to, I will spotlight someone. If I haven’t gotten to you yet, chances are, I will, at some point in the future.

I’m really excited about this spotlight, and here are a few reasons why. There are a few mods in the SessKag fandom who do a lot and un so many things and fic rec lists. And it just so happens that @sagemcmae is one of them! Thank you Sage for everything you do with rec lists and author spotlights of your own! The SessKag fandom is truly blessed to have you!
Now, full disclosure, I did put the notice up there, but I did have some help with this spotlight because I’m so busy nowadays. Thank you to @sereia1313 and Troll for helping me put this together!
DISCLAIMER: Like quite a few people I’ve spotlighted, I have not read everything that @sagemcmae has written. BUT, if you take a look at her A03 page, you’ll see what I mean.
I’ve also only been able to highlight about 10 of Sage’s 80 stories, 10 of Sage’s 80 stories. Yes that’s right this talented author has given us 80 stories to read! And me being me, I’ve only read a fraction of them.
@sagemcmae actually writes in multiple fandoms. For a list of all of them it’s best you visit her A03 page. For this spotlight, I’ll just focus on her Inuyasha writing, specifically her SessKag writing. And she’s got 31 amazing stories there to share with us!
Let’s start with my favorite be her, and a fan favorite, Happenstance. It’s the Harry Potter, SessKag AU everyone needed, but never knew they did. There’s so much I can say about this, but all I can say, is this: Sesskag and a Hogwarts AU was very much needed and I cannot thank her enough for writing it. If you haven’t read it I think you should check it out. It’s such a good story!
Now, most of you here know that I love a good fluffy story. But sometimes, I cherish what looks like a good, angsty slow burn. And when you add in tropes like arranged marriage, family fluff, and soulmates, I am hooked!!! And @sagemcmae has some of these!
Lessons in Parenting will make you melt and squeal in happiness. And if you need some family fluff to brighten your day, look no further than this story. Best part: its still ongoing!
And for more family fluff, there’s A Place to Belong too! According to Troll: “ A Place to Belong is also really wonderful about them exploring their relationship together when he hires Kagome to help with Rin who he adopted. Lots of family fluff and bonding!”

Now & Then is another AU where Kags goes into the well when she’s a kid and then meets Sess when HE’S a kid, and they end up growing up together (mostly with her going to the feudal era).
Little Red & the Silver Beast : an AU/Feudal Era, Kags sneaks into the Western Stronghold to try and find Tessaiga (cuz Naraku killed Inu/Kikyou) and she’s trying to defeat him while finding her sister (Rin) as well. Short and sweet (but totally well thought out plot), instant attraction kind of thing.
Once Upon a Dream is a “what if” one-shot in Kag’s POV if she’d met Sess first instead of Inu, with Mr. Sandman as the sequel-ish one-shot from Sess’s POV
My ULTIMATE favourite of hers is Silver & Gold (I can’t count the number of time I’ve read this fic and now I wanna go read it again. Canon/modern times, Kags gets locked out of the feudal era when the well closes, happens across an injured dog, takes him home, and it ends up being Sess. It’s the first one she’s got listed on Ao3 (anf FFnet). It’s SOOO Good!

Q: How would you describe your writing style? A: I’m pretty bad at judging my own stuff, so I asked some friends and they gave me their opinions. (Their answers made me smile stupidly, cuz they’re so sweet.) The consensus is, apparently, that my work is consistent, passionate, and “fluffy town”, while keeping the characters relatively believable and relatable in their portrayal.
Q: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is considering reading one of your fics? A: Again, I asked my friends and their answers were to “enjoy the ride”.
While my characters can (and kinda often do) deviate from strictly canon, I try to provide reason for it and explain the *why* of the changes. I’ve never minded OOC characters, but I myself like to know what motivates a character to be that way, especially if it’s a canon diverge, which all of my stories (so far, at the time of filling out the questionnaire) have been.
I’m a bit of a zealot when it comes to editing, and while I don’t know if that will factor into most folks reading experience, I do try to go back and re-edit my works periodically to catch any slips I made or missed in the initial run-through.
I try very hard to stick to a regular uploading schedule so the works don’t get abandoned/orphaned (though SHM definitely lost the bet on that one- I do intend to go back and do something with it, but I kinda got lost along the way with it and it honestly needs an overhaul (read: a complete rewrite).
Q: How do you get/stay inspired to write? (ie: playlists, aesthetics, fanart, this blog, etc.) A: It varies. Music definitely is a huge part of it, but my stories have all been born out of a dream I’ve had. Be it an idea from the dream that stuck with me, or an entire scene. Where the inspiration for my rando dreams come from, who knows :D
Q: What’s your favorite SessKag moment from Inuyasha and why? A: To be honest, it’s been so long since I’ve seen the anime (let alone seen any of the manga) that my memory for specific scenes are often a little fuzzy. I’ve been reading fanfic for InuYasha for so long that I sometimes confuse canon with fanon.
Q: What do you like most about the SessKag fandom? A: I’m relatively new to actually interacting with folks in the fandom and not just lurking to read stories. It’s one of the main fandoms I’ve been consuming for years though, and it honestly blows me away how talented so many of the fan authors and artists are for this fandom.

Q: Where can we find you and your stories? A: AO3, Dokuga, FFnet, and Tumblr
Q: How would you describe your writing style? A: Fluffy. I can’t write stories without a happy ending. And I’d say I’m good at keeping people in character as well (I’ve gotten a lot of comments that say that at least).
Q: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is considering reading one of your fics? A: Prepare to be buried in fluff! There won’t be any angst without purpose, so it’s definitely the place to go if you want to feel better.
Q: How do you get/stay inspired to write? (ie: playlists, aesthetics, fanart, this blog, etc.) A: Music. Music music music. 90% of my ideas are based off songs. And my musical taste is basically “everything I like except the stuff I don’t”, so it ranges from Disney, musicals, pop, rock, country, oldies (1950-1970s). I’m also inclined to Discord shenanigans as well. Basically my imagination is a curse cuz someone will mention a vague idea and a new story will enter in my mind fully formed. FULLY FORMED.
Q: What’s your favorite SessKag moment from Inuyasha and why? A: Oh man.. There’s so many. Aside from their first interaction inside his father’s tomb (which is mentioned the most), I’d say the part during the final battle where Kagome wakes up inside Naraku and Sesshoumaru is keeping her safe from random youkai. It just shows how much he’s changed and I love how the fact that she notices the changes is showcased as well.
Q: What do you like most about the SessKag fandom? A: Oh man, definitely the people. I’ve found a group of fantastic mutuals that love (and encourage) my shenanigans. Everyone is so supportive, especially since I see myself as a newer author. Come for the stories, stay for the peeps. Plus the fact that no one gets tired of reading/drawing about these two falling in love is wonderful!

Happy International Fanworks Day!
To celebrate, I’m launching a new blog. There can never be too many blogs or too many fic recs, right?
We already have @sesskagarchive that specialises on themed fic rec lists and which will accept fic rec requests. But I figured it would be nice to have a way to share fic recs in a more flexible and less time consuming manner.
This blog will be for individual fic recs (one rec per post) and for fic quotes.
And as the biggest difference to how SessKag Archive is run, I’d very much like YOU to join! If you read a lot of SessKag fics and feel up to sharing the ones you like with others, I’d love for you to come on board this blog!

Q: What’s your favorite SessKag moment from Inuyasha and why? A: Don’t laugh. Sometimes, I often get head!canon confused with what actually happened in the anime/manga. So I’ll be thinking, “Remember that time when Kagome met Sesshoumaru’s mom?” And then I have to stop and think, “Waitaminute. *Did* that happen? I remember it so clearly!” (I’m too used to tangling my events with Rumiko Takahashi’s.)
