In Shisui's mind, the only thing ruling were the memories he held of you.
Beautiful memories that brought a smile to his face and dimples adorned his cheerful countenance.
Throughout his life and shinobi career, Shisui made many promises.
Especially to you.
He promised he would love you forever, even if you weren't aesthetically beautiful anymore and lines of age appeared on your lovely face.
He promised he would marry you someday, a night when both of you were hiding under an old oak tree.
He promised he would be faithful to you, and that no one else would have his heart under a starry night while making love and he sucked on your neck.
He promised he would always protect you from any danger, even if it meant losing his life, even if in your words the danger 'wasn't that big of a deal.'
He promised that you both would have a family someday; perhaps two children, a girl, and a boy. In his mind, there was also the possibility of having a puppy so the children would have a pet and companion, something he always longed for as a child.
He... promised he would move on and that everything he promised he would share with another woman while you slowly died in his arms.
He was a liar.

He simply couldn't continue, not without you. He couldn't continue existing if you weren't by his side. He couldn't love anyone else if it wasn't you.
Before falling to what would be his imminent death, he asked for your forgiveness for not fulfilling any of the promises he made to you, and then he fell to his end while listening to Itachi's pleas to stop in the background.

I firmly believe that no one ever encountered Shisui and said they didn't like him. Everyone apparently loved Shisui
He would ruffle every kid's hair and often give them candy's like old grannys do
He doesn't want to cut his hair
Like he genuinely hates to cut it
But one time they were so long that it went in his eyes, so he decided to trim it from time to time
Itachi is actually the one remembering him
No one can keep me away from CURLY Shisui
I am 100% positive he has little curls when his hair gets long
And he loves to feel that little curl between his fingers
He brings Itachi to restaurants after missions
He genuinely worries that Itachi isn't eating like he should because of the stress
In a nonmassacre!AU he would become a teacher like Kakashi, but he would still help in the police force from time to time
He would totally raise the kids to be like him
He doesn't actually know how to teach them so he just gives them a bunch of strange tasks
And when they manage to pull it off he's just " that was possible?!"
He's a bit strict tho and takes training seriously
He probably pester Sasuke from time to time
He definetly helps Naruto with his pranks
Sasuke is the victim
He gets scolded by Itachi after that, because he should be the adult
He still doesn't listen
He goes to Sakura when he's badly hurt even if she scolds him more than Itachi because that girl has skills
However he gets grumpy every time she puts him in the hospital
On a more Canon note:
He definetly hugged Itachi often when they were out of the compound
They were best bros
He loved to stroke Itachi's hair because they were soft and mesmerizing
Itachi complained every time because he was dirting his hair
He loved to confuse Itachi so he would often say thing totally out of the blue
Like: "Oh, clouds are just endless water bottles" and he would just continue walking like nothing happened
And Itachi would just stare at him like he was high on drugs
Or then again: "you need to murder two people to change the number of murders in the words"
Itachi didn't sleep that night
Still haunts him to this day

Shisui falling for a shy person
(Sorry it's so long and it doesn't have a "cut". I don't know how to put one)
Shisui isn't your typical extrovert
He's more on the introvert side with new people, but after a few encounters he's over the silent treatment
He's used to Itachi, so he doesn't really think about people as shy
More like silent
Took him a good four hours to realise you weren't just silent, but shy
Look, man has priorities in his life
You can't ask him to always be smart
He met you at the library
Not really his go to place, but Itachi's birthday was coming close, so...
Yeah, he doesn't have much creativity with gifts
Why do you think he gifted Sasuke plants two years in a row? (Both on Christmas and on his birthday for both years)
Ok, back to what we were saying
Dude saw you and said "why not"
He knows he's cute, so why not try to flirt with you a bit?
Maybe he would get a date out of that
And oh boy was he wrong
The moment he talked to you was the moment you realised no matter how far in the library you go, people will always found you
Now, you didn't hate talking to people. Au contraire, you actually liked it
But it was difficult. Really difficult
The hardest thing was looking someone in the face
So, for the first half hour or so, you just kept your face on the books
Shisui was actually quite nice to talk to
He didn't pressure you or anything really
But you couldn't help but feel bad
You couldn't stutter out a full sentence even if you wanted to
But he didn't seem to mind?
It confused the shit out of you
So, after another half hour where he spoke almost none stop and you answered in sentences composed of like three words, you managed to ask a few questions
In the end you guys passed a few hours together and you actually managed to talk like normal people
That didn't mean you managed to not stutter or not blush, but eh, it was a start
So. Shisui didn't get his date
But he got a friend
When he told Itachi, he had to explain you weren't really silent
Shisui stared for like a good minute before the information clicked in his mind
He got to meet you a few more times and he managed to get a date out of you
Well, not really a date, but in his head it was
And that's how you began to fall for the guy
But Shisui. Oh Shisui
He fell hard, really hard
And not just when he opened the non-existing door for you
It began with your hair
The way you touched them when you were nervous
How you styled them
The way your cut framed your face
Then it was the little things
He was a ninja, so it wasn't surprising that he would notice tiny little things you never thought about
He saw how you would fidget with your fingers
The way you smiled with your head down so he wouldn't see you
How you closed your eyes for some seconds as you walked, just enjoying the breeze
And when he was on mission he would think about nothing if not you
Well, Itachi was also in his mind, but that's beyond the point
It was a noticeable change in his behaviour
He would hold your hand when he saw you fidget with your fingers
Brush your hair out of the way when they got in front of your eyes
Give you his jacket (that actually didn't do much since it didn't have sleeves) when he saw you cold
But the smile he gave you after all these thing was what actually made you blush
Oh the way he made you stutter and smile and blush
He knew you wouldn't reciprocate his actions immediately
ESPECIALLY if you guys were in public
So he settled for your little smile and the thanks said with a really low voice so that only he could hear
And boy was it enough
For some reason he didn't mind how you acted so differently in public than in private
Of course it took time for you to be completely comfortable with him, but when you did, he was so surprised
You were actually really funny (something he couldn't see before since you didn't like showing it), you would always laugh out loud and joke with him
Even though you actually felt comfortable, your shyness wasn't gone
You would blush profusely at every compliment
Stutter when he was too close
Keep silent when you knew you weren't going anywhere with your words
And the part that shook you was that he was fine with it
You never found anyone who would wait for you to find the right words
Or that wouldn't tease you when you blushed and stuttered
But Shisui was patient
He knew you hated when people laughed at you or pressed you
So he would wait and comfort you
Never tease you (unless you were alone, so he wouldn't draw attention from other people on you)
