Social Mobility - Tumblr Posts
This is actually really cool. Just yesterday in my US history class we were talking about opportunity over equality and how America was founded on that concept. I have great respect for Marxist communism and so this concept seemed a little unfair to me, but I guess I wasn't fully aware of the whole equal opportunity thing. The American dream of social mobility is quite amazing and I really like this video. I'd be curious to see how the numbers work if you're born elsewhere. Assuming the different groups are meant to be split equally by population (which we all know is not true and that causes quite a large problem) does that mean someone from the top has an equal chance of ending up at the bottom? What about the middle class? Now we know that isn't true because people born into higher income have a better chance of completing high school and can afford college and even graduate school. Id be really interested to see the distribution from all sides. Do black Americans born at the top have a likelihood of ending up at the bottom? What about middle class high school drop outs? What about children of gay parents or even better gay youth. If someone knows of a source which elaborates on this concept id love to look into it.
This was extremely useful and interesting.
