I thought it was super weird the first time I watched Sonic 2 that eggman calls Knuckles a "space pumpkin"

But when I rewatched it I realized it may have been a pumpkin hill reference, hell yeah

I love that the sonic drowning theme plays during that underwater scene in Sonic 2 but give me more!! It was so subtle but if they made it longer and more noticeable it would've been terrifying!! The drowning theme scared me so bad as a kid, it would've given me flashbacks and had me on the edge of my seat if they amplified it a little

I really enjoyed your analysis of the interaction. I didn't think of it like that! I just hope that Stone is as welcoming with Shadow as he was with Knuckles, considering the last 'space creature' he welcomed became friends with the hedgehog (I mean I hope Shadow does the same but-) and if he's gonna be the next big bad he maybe a little more sinister and angry as Eggman could be dead (if Mr Carrey does retire) and he could not be as warm as we know him.

i do think about ‘...could use some mushroom’ a lot it felt like a punch to the gut watching it bc you know me i love it when they are in love but stone looked so sad :(. but like. i will never give up hope. Ever. it’s not about stone in the grand scheme of things of that moment i think. i feel like it represents robotnik crossing that Otherwordly threshold a lot bc like. robotnik’s well-dressed very-human agent stone giving him a latte REEKS of sonic movie 1 vibes yknow? back when he was still A Guy Who Was Slightly Power Crazed. that one moment was definitely like. robotnik returning to something he once knew as his routine only to find he no longer conforms to it. also the guys taste buds are ruined with shrooms i feel like it wasn’t a jab at stone at ALL just like. a non sequitur. even if stone was a meow meow about it. also the wording of ‘could use’ some mushroom like... for robotnik that’s oddly gentle yknow. it’s so neutral it’s just a statement. wow. and i guess we also see stone processing how things are going to be different forever now with how he tried to hide it with ‘you look... different’ but like when Their Special Latte isn’t His Order anymore. that’s a sure sign. and that’s followed immediately by stone going ‘is that a fucking echidna’ but... his smile when he says ‘welcome to the team’. that’s a man who is ready to look to the future. a man who goes from :( to delightfully advocating for revenge on the hedgehog. fuck it this is my life now!

anyways. that little exchange doesn’t sto my botniks very much but the more i think about it the more it feels a lot less like a sting to me LOL on my first watch i was just terrified that would be the beginning of the end. but then the scene where robotnik giggles and stoops to stones level like an excited schoolboy to go ‘that means he trusts you, stone!’ makes it better. it heals me. silly goofy fun

No That Was Real

Okay, so I just remembered this moment from the Archie comics while reading this theory:

For years, there were basically thousands, if not millions of chaos emeralds scattered across different planets within the Archie comics. Tails is prophesied to bring about ”the Great Harmony” to unify them all into the 7 we know from the games. The Sonic 2 movie claiming that the Chaos Emeralds all come from the Master Emerald may be a callback to this moment? (Fun fact: there’s one last panel to this page that i cropped out, but Tails says that he hopes something ”special” happens to the Zone of Silence with so much power being stored away there, which is in reference to the fact that the Zone of Silence is called the Special Zone in the games and is where you go to get the Chaos Emeralds normally. I just thought that was cool).

Sonic 2022 (Chaos Emerald Theory Ammendment)

I kept not writing this post because I have adhd. but I don’t want to do homework, so I’m doing this instead.

This post is going to be a LOT shorter than the previous, because personally I don’t believe there’s a lot to cover.

“Is the Chaos Emerald Theory dead?”

No, it just needs amended. Changes need to be made but the base theory still stands.

We proved something in that post, Sonic, specifically his power, is connected to the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic 2020 had a leading theme of his power, Longclaw assumed it’s what the echidnas were after, it’s what Robotnik was after and specifically “seeing what makes him tick.”

I don’t need to repeat everything in the original post, but nothing raised in there was answered in Sonic 2022. The Chaos Emeralds showed up, yes, they never explained Sonic’s power. Where it comes from, what it is, and why it does things previously established by other Sonic canons as something you can only do with a Chaos Emerald. The only addition is Knuckles who has the same power, and Tails who I’m fully convinced also does.

This also shows up in Sonic 2022, Continuing Chaos Emerald sound effects around Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic loosing his speed around the Master Emerald powered Robot, Sonic’s power opening the secret in the map, the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds having the same lighting and eye-glow effect as Sonic and Knuckles so, and I’m certain other things I didn’t notice that I wouldn’t be able to see until we get a full rip.

@autisticshadowthehedgehog recently made her own post talking about some of the things we discussed. Something she does that I avoid is getting into more specific ideas. In her own words she “goes sticks the badger.” [💎] She talks about throwing things in, stuff she’s come up with, stuff we’ve talked about, etc. All hypotheticals that would be interesting.

In the previous theory, there was one specific thing that convinced me, that being the Chaos Emerald sound effect, which was the tip of the scale and caused me to write and post it to begin with. This time, I have a similar tip of the scale that convinces me it’s still alive in some way or another:

Sonic may not be a physical Chaos Emerald, but we’ve done our job of laying out the clear connections that haven’t been there in previous canons, connections I believe will be tackled in future movies.

I can't believe we're getting Shadow before Metal Sonic tho. Robotnik & Stone would be like the perfect parental parallel with the metal speedy son they created together <3
