My own personal favorite headcannon is that Mihawk was just completely rabid in his youth. Like I’m talking when he was still young enough to have something to prove.

I know the seas were a MESS when Mihawk was still hunting down challengers to prove he was the best.

Because I also head canon that a title like World’s strongest swordsman didn’t exist till Mihawk through sheer force of Will and a truly horrifying amount of singular dogmatic pursuit clawed it together by simply proving to the world, one challenger at a time, that no one could beat him.

The mess he must have made, the carnage he must have left in his wake. Right at the beginning of the golden age of piracy too. I know the marines were STRESSED.

I truly love that everytime we see Mihawk Oda seems to go what is the most baffling thing I can have this man do that won’t reveal a single thing about him.

Every single time he draws him he asks himself how can I really destroy the girlies today? How can I reveal more about this man without answering a single goddam pre established question? Infact how do I raise more questions?

as One Piece comes closer to its end more and more characters that we’ve know since way back in the beginning when the manga was still in double digits are now having their pasts and motivations layed out for us to poke and prod at. .

Except Mihawk, because fuck you.

Something about the first time Mihawk swings a sword it’s as a means to protect himself and escape

And everytime after that it’s because it makes him feel strong and he never wants to feel weak again.

Mihawk just has the vibes of someone that grew up primarily around women. Like his love language is asking if you’ve eaten in such an awkward way it’s obvious he learned it from somewhere.

He very much gives son that’s just a little to much like his mother (cold and unhinged) vibes

This one is about to sound even more conspiracy theorist but hey we ride or we die 🤷🏿‍♀️

but yeah, I just learnt that Mihawk and Shanks are both Pisces. and Pisces are associated with Yin and Yang which you know famous for equal balance a good month to give two famously, equal rivals.

But also if we take Red as their main color my good people I ask what would you say their supporting colors are? 🤔

That's right Mihawk's is black Shanks' is white bing bang boom Yin and Yang ladies and gentlemen. Not to mention they have the dot Shank's coat is black while Mihawk has his pasty white skin, and oh his trousers are usually colored white in the manga(so is his kogatana apparently. Apparently Toei just likes the way gold looks on Mihawk)

also as @manofbeskar pointed out Shanks' jorts (spiritually) are flower patterned but not just any flower, Roses! guess who also likes roses. Also the coat Mihawk wear when he actually deigns to wear a shirt is eerily similar to Shanks' and the only other person I can remember that wears a coat like that besides Shanks is Luffy who is also tied to Shanks so do with that what you will

so yeah there we have it; I have no idea what any of this could mean but I'm having fun.

honestly I'm just spiraling at the idea that Oda might actually never reveal anything about their connection 😭 I would actually die if that happened.

Mihawk Headcannons

Some of the headcannons I have about Mihawk that have recently been eating a whole through my brain like a very persistent worm.

These are all just my hopes and dreams based on no evidence whatsoever so yeah the resolute language is just for jokes. - When we see Mihawk at Roger's execution he is 19 and has to wear Yoru across his back because she is too tall for him. Meaning that there was a good at least 5 years where Mihawk prayed every day that he would continue to grow so he could wear Yoru down his back and live out his aesthetic.

-Also, Yoru probably weighed more than 19-year-old Mihawk, and that weight is not distributed evenly, especially with how Mihawk was wearing her across his back. And Mihawk even then was masterfully skilled of course, but say, every now and again he'd be distracted, maybe by a certain redhead whose to say🤷🏿‍♀️, and forget to counterbalance losing him his ever-present fight with gravity. All this to say was that in the right circumstances, young Mihawk was very tippable and had to quickly become acquainted with the expert skill of picking yourself up while on the sand, with a sword bigger than you are strapped across his back.

- I don't really care how but it is imperative to me that Mihawk knew Rayleigh, Garp, Benn and Yasopp as a teenager/very young adult and they used to clown him relentlessly. Garp and Ray are too damn old to be scared of a teenage Mihawk, Yasopp has no self-preservation and Benn has always recognized Mihawk as the awkward, sarcastic mess he is and has had to scold him just as much as his Captain. It's why they are the two rhp he's most familiar with and Benn is his favorite (captain included) - He is Spanish. I know a lot of people headcanon Romanian because of the whole Dracula lives in a dark castle thing but I will stand by he looks like a Spanish Conquistador till my dying day. And obviously, because people don't have to be from just one place he can deffs be both! But yeah I think he's Spanish and should speak/understand Spanish solely because Doffy is also Spanish (can't believe people thought he was German his name is literally Donquioxte) and regularly tries to rizz people up at the Warlord mewting (namely Crocodile) in Spanish and Mihawk (the only other Spanish speaker) has to bare the burden of comprehension of the truly fluid and vile nonsense Doffy is spewing. And Doffy who of course also clocks this is trying to go for a record of what nobody is quiet sure, but whatever it is Mihawk will be damned before he loses at anything to that damn bird

- This one gonna be very brief because the rest of this has been pretty lighthearted and I don't want to harsh the vibes too much. But Mihawk definitely has scars on his back like not just one but properly multiple. And given the fact that he was supposedly betrayed, his mistrust and loner attitude, and the fact that his eyes are very rare and probably special all signs point to; he was definitely at one point hunted as a child till he turned hunter.

What I’ve learnt while researching Mihawk for my color theory essay is that apparently Toei has very strong opinions about Mihawk’s color scheme and like a sugar daddy with very specific tastes they love to put him in gold.

I’m gonna bring this back because I will truly die on this hill and I wanna here y’all thoughts on this.

But I do genuinely believe with all my heart that Mihawk and Doffy should speak Spanish (maybe specifically Spain Spanish cause I know they are different) and more importantly they should speak it to each other. Or more accurately Doffy should speak it at Mihawk while Mihawk adamantly pretends he doesn’t exist.

God the ways in which I just want Mihawk to go absolutely feral have been previously unknown to man. Like I need my man with hair slicked in sweat eyes deranged pupils dilated all the way to that first ring I need him so deranged he’s not even screaming words just something deep and guttural that you know once he gets out he’ll leave a trail of bodies and a Red Sea in just wake.

You do get the sense that Mihawk is a man that has never been normal about a single thing, a day in his life.

He either underreacts or overreacts, Things either don't affect him or obsess him there is no in between. There is only the russian roulette of which option you get.

And unless you're a certain red head or cotton candy haired child, neither option spells anything great for your general well being or the integrity of your ship...

Mihawk the type of dude to try food because he heard it's pair well with a bottle of wine he already had.

This is why he doesn't like hotpot it doesn't go with red wine.
