Leola uses a different spell to communicate with Viren (she hates spells that involve homonculai bc you always have to kill them in the end and she feels bad about it)

callum actually doesn't trust rayla! he doesn't trust anybody. except for zym, of course. he's a little zappy dragon boy that callum feels safe around, so he gets attached to him.
callum can't comprehend human speech in his state so any attempts at speaking to him are unsuccessful. besides, he just cowers whenever anyone enters the room he's being kept in.
zym is the one that actually gets him in his room. the others quickly realized that he was very intrigued and wanted to follow zym around. he finds his zappy kisses to be very nice

how is bird callum’s mental state. he’s feral but what exactly is wrong with him. does it hurt? is he confused and lost? fight or flight? does he recognize the others? i have so many questions
he's not okay mentally, and he isn't after, either.
there are times when it hurts, yes. when he was missing, sometimes he'd be hit by the pain mid-flight and be forced to land and huddle somewhere for the rest of the day, recovering.
he feels at home when he's outside flying, but once he's trapped in his room he really starts to deteriorate. he's confused, he doesn't understand what's going on and he doesn't know who any of these people are. the only person that he's okay with is zym, and he's a dragon, so obviously that's not gonna help the others much. he can't understand speech, either. it makes no sense.
he's fearful, too. little anxious bird boy. he has so many panic attacks that are made worse by the fact that he really has no idea who he is or what's going on.
