Thats Why We Always Discuss Bucky - Tumblr Posts

Your third point really spoke to me, so I wanted to add:

1. I guess you are refearing to the Winter Soldier Bucky, when Bucky wasn’t contious and so did it with the intent to kill Steve, which gives him a lot more power to use.

But Bucky didn’t want to kill Walker and both him and Sam just fought the Flashshamers which did power them out while Walker seems to go through an adrenaline kick.

On top of that: when you want to kill someone you can punch as hard as you want and as the WS Bucky probably didn’t have the priority to keep his own body safe aswell. A fight against another super soldier could seriously hurt him, unlike fighting a normal person as a super soldier.

2.I think it’s either 2 lists or a list with both in them. But I would guess that Zemo crossed himself out because Bucky on one hand obviously doesn’t own Zemo anything as Zemo himself used Bucky. So maybe from Zemos perspective they are even now that Bucky used him against the flagsmashers and he didn’t let him go (one way or the other Zemo was prepared) so that Bucky does not have any obligation to do anything with Zemo anymore.

3.I complete agree on your point about the fact that the writers show it as Buckys fault what the Winter Soldier did and don’t point out that it isn’t.

Sure Bucky feels like it is, which is why he made that list for himself, but it isn’t adressed that it simply isn’t his fault at all and that is just screwed up. I mean they never blamed Clint or Bruce for what they did being controlled by Loki, but 70 years of getting brainwashed, experimented on and tortured by Hydra and what the WS did is Bucky’s fault? That just doesn’t add up.

While I do think the set up we had back in episode 1 and now the callback in episode 5 was done well, like you said it should be adressed that it isn’t Bucky’s fault what happend. If it helps him and the father of the WS victim and Bucky wants him to know that for closure for both of them, that is perfectly fine. The man can get over that part of his sons death that so deeply disturbs him and Bucky can get peace with the WS innocent victim that keeps haunting him because he remembers what the WS did.

But I think they either won’t show the scene or Bucky will be like: “it was my fault” because it seems since Steve died everyone forgot that it wasn’t Buckys fault.

4.I think that is part Bucky saw some really horrible people in his life and part what was already in 3. He feels incredibly guilty over what the WS did, so he could refer to that guilt he has and not wanting anyone to go a brutal way like the WS.

5.Bucky has killed, especially in WW2 and since he has very good reason to kill Zemo and the fact that Zemo does want to die since Civil War the scene seemed to be more about the fact that Bucky doed not intend to go the WS way, as Bucky himself fears he will.

And on another note he goes with Sam’s mentality of the overall series that you should be able to (at least try) to solve things peacefully, where to opposite would be John Walker.

Bucky was never a very vocal character when it came to his feelings, so TFATWS is quiet the step up to adressing his feelings, seeing his (debatable) therapist and talking to Sam. I mean Sebastian Stan does so much acting just through his body and face you have to pay attention to that (if you can read body language that is) in every movie he shows up, because since WS Bucky is a man of few words. Even though that seems to better now that he is getting better, more back to pre Hydra Bucky (flirting with Sarah was also a sign of old Bucky).

But I totally understand your point of boiling it down, just because it is not adressed that Bucky simply isn’t at fault. He feels at fault and wants to make up for it that is a big part of his character ark this seasons and about him not feeling worthy and going through his issues. And I think we both would wish that at some point this would be properly adressed but it seems wishful thinking.

Some thoughts about the last episode that I really need clarification on:

1. Why was Bucky able to hold his own against Steve but both him and the Falcon have to work that hard to bring down Walker?

2. Why was zemo on bucky's list of amends? That whole thing is so confusing. Is Bucky's list about people he hurt or about people he somehow helped get power? Either way, why is zemo there??????

3. Speaking of the list of amends, Sam did so much better at getting bucky to open up but they're still going with some idea of bucky having to do some sort of penitent task for some reason when he is literally innocent. Sam should have said "you're doing that list to make yourself feel better; it's not working because you'll always feel some guilt because you're a good man. In truth, though, you are a victim and aren't to blame for what HYDRA did".

Continuing to reinforce bucky's guilt is harmful and kinda mean (on the writers' parts). Imagine if someone knocked you out, put a gun in your limp hand, used your finger to pull the trigger and kill someone. Would this haunt you? If you're a good person, absolutely, but wouldn't you also need people that you trust to remind you that you literally did nothing wrong? And that if you want to do something for the family of the person the other person killed, that could be healing for all parties but you have to keep the truth about what happened and your role in it in clear perspective. Pushing you to go to the family, either to feel better or give them closure, is really out of line, sorry.

4. I didn't get bucky's comment about "you don't want to go down this path, trust me". Did bucky go on a revenge kiling spree that I wasn't aware of? What is he referencing????

5. Was the scene with zemo supposed to show something about Bucky that I missed? It was a good scene, but I never expected bucky to kill zemo because bucky has never shown himself to be a killer ... the only real growth i saw there was him obviously being humble enough to try to fix his relationship with wakanda

It was a really good episode but I'm just confused by some choices the writers are making when it comes to bucky. It's like they're giving him a lot of attention but it's all really surface and shallow. Like they've boiled him down to "guy who feels bad because he killed people".
