During the second half of June the fandom will significantly expand due to the US release, but it also means a whole lot of bashing and terrible reviews coming up. The Engine is forever! +++ Developing a locomotive powered by nuclear fusion that runs nonstop around the world as seen in the South Korean post-apocalyptic train movie “Snowpiercer” could be possible, scientists said. If the world’s scientists and engineers can figure out a way to make a fusion reactor small enough to fit inside a train’s engine room, and use snow as a water supply to fuel the fusion, a real-life Snowpiercer could be developed like nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines. “If a small-size fusion reactor can be developed, it can generate energy for a train,” said Oh Young-Kook, a researcher at the National Fusion Research Institute. “Also, assuming we can use around 5,000 lithium-ion batteries in an engine room, and turn snow outside into water, a fusion reactor could generate energy for a train for several decades.” Nuclear fusion is referred to as an “artificial sun” as it can potentially generate an unlimited amount of energy through hydrogen and tritium. Hydrogen can be obtained from water, while tritium can be gained from lithium-ion batteries, which are used nowadays to power smartphones or laptops, the researcher noted. Scientists worldwide are seeking to develop and secure the next-generation sustainable energy through a controlled process of making two atomic nuclei collide and fuse. Seven members ― the European Union, India, Japan, China, Russia, South Korea and the U.S. ― are currently building the world’s largest experimental nuclear fusion reactor, called the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, or ITER, in France. Its first pilot fusion plant will begin operations in 2040. “Fusion power will be the most ideal source of energy as it is safer and greener than nuclear energy,” said Kim Gon-ho, a professor of Seoul National University’s Plasmas and Fusion Engineering Department. “It will still take some time to make it commercially available even after 2040 because the fusion process requires a very high, sophisticated level of technology.” South Korea, which belatedly jumped into fusion energy research, plans to invest some 150 billion won ($146 million) in the field this year. The National Fusion Research Institute successfully developed a nuclear fusion reactor called Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research in 2007. “The KSTAR will conduct a variety of experiments and tests to realize the development of fusion energy,” an NFRI official said. +++ SOURCE
01. The original screenplay for "Snowpiercer" gives little description of the train aside from the engine car’s “silver, sleek rounded, bullet-shape nose”. The spare description gave the film’s art team a great deal of latitude to dream up a number of different designs for the titular vehicle that houses humanity’s last survivors. One of the initial designs accentuates the train’s sleek curves, suggesting its ability to move at high velocities with little wind resistance. 02. The Greenhouse Section’s surface is comprised almost entirely of windows to allow maximum light to enter and sustain the plants inside. 03. Exterior design of the Lounge + Salon Section. 04. Exterior design of the Swimming Pool Section. Similar to the Greenhouse, the Swimming Pool Section has plenty of windows to allow passengers to sunbathe during the daytime. 05. The cars that compose the Tail Section for the lower classes seem to riff off the look of contemporary livestock cars. Note the slat-style windows along the top, allowing air circulation but no real visibility. 06. Close-up detail of the Snowpiercer's wheels at the nose of the train. 07. In the original screenplay, the engine car’s nose transforms into a “sharp arrow-headed lance” to break through ice and snow. Although the final train does not feature this shape-shifting device, early designs show that the filmmakers did consider a piston-driven lance and a Giger-esque biomechanical aesthetic. 08. In the end, the final version that appears in the film bears a slightly more biomechanical aspect with a face-like design at its front.

hiiii!!! it's me again, your new fan who stumbled upon your other blog with the beautiful blood/gore artworks! ^_^ so yeah, this is me following your instructions to place my request on this blog so you can make the color drawing of minister mason from snowpiercer. but i was wondering if you could include curtis too? perhaps sketching them in a sort of battle pose if you were to design a one-sheet poster for the film. so glad you LOVED snowpiercer btw. and welcome to the fandom too!

Guess who just got a copy of the brilliant source material for my favorite new film fandom? >_<
So far, my favorite bookstore—Fully Booked—did me an awesome solid and got me the first volume of Titan Comics' official English translation of "Le Transperceneige" and they are looking to send me the second volume as soon as they can. Will likely be doing a review of the first book and see what the differences are from the film.
