The Human Condition - Tumblr Posts
We exist simply to stare death in the face and smile.
Death is a constant companion. They follow us all simultaneously. Plucking at our strings, tracing our ins and outs, our wishes and our doubts. Death meets us at the end of all we all have, we laugh, we cry and ultimately we say goodbye. To live is to know it will one day end. So run through overgrown fields, soak in the yellow of the sun, find pictures in the clouds, get caught on bramble bushes with berries staining your clothes, hug your loved ones. Hold them close.
Remind me why we exist?
Humanity looks up at hidden heavens in the sky, watching, waiting, calling out to something, to someone.
We seem to have this disposition for belief in a higher figure, wether it be a ruler of the sun or the diety of liquor. Such a human thing, to seek a larger figure. I suppose we hope our purpose is something bigger.

Human existence is so fascinating because we build fucking empires in our heads, pry the world apart to know its every secret, argue about philosophy which would not even be relevant if not for those cerebral empires, find music and art and science in every corner of our natural world, but like... if we need to burp or sneeze and our body just Doesn't, everything shuts down.
My entire emotional and physical equilibrium fucking jams up because I need to expel a narsty gas from my face hole before I can sleep. And some of us are kings???

image of me politely not engaging with an interpretation of a character from my shows which i do not agree with and find to be in slightly poor taste
i'm both dumber and smarter than you think so don't underestimate me because i'm actually smart about a lot of stuff but also don't be surprised if i'm dumb about some other stuff hope that helps
“After learning my flight was detained 4 hours, I heard the announcement: if anyone in the vicinity of gate 4-A understands any Arabic, please come to the gate immediately. Well—one pauses these days. Gate 4-A was my own gate. I went there. An older woman in full traditional Palestinian dress, just like my grandma wore, was crumpled to the floor, wailing loudly. Help, said the flight service person. Talk to her. What is her problem? We told her the flight was going to be four hours late and she did this. I put my arm around her and spoke to her haltingly. Shu dow-a, shu-biduck habibti, stani stani schway, min fadlick, sho bit se-wee? The minute she heard any words she knew—however poorly used—she stopped crying. She thought our flight had been canceled entirely. She needed to be in El Paso for some major medical treatment the following day. I said no, no, we’re fine, you’ll get there, just late. Who is picking you up? Let’s call him and tell him. We called her son and I spoke with him in English. I told him I would stay with his mother until we got on the plane and would ride next to her—Southwest. She talked to him. Then we called her other sons just for the fun of it. Then we called my dad and he and she spoke for a while in Arabic and found out, of course, they had ten shared friends. Then I thought just for the heck of it why not call some Palestinian poets I know and let them chat with her. This all took up about 2 hours. She was laughing a lot by then. Telling about her life. Answering questions. She had pulled a sack of homemade mamool cookies—little powdered sugar crumbly mounds stuffed with dates and nuts—out of her bag—and was offering them to all the women at the gate. To my amazement, not a single woman declined one. It was like a sacrament. The traveler from Argentina, the traveler from California, the lovely woman from Laredo—we were all covered with the same powdered sugar. And smiling. There are no better cookies. And then the airline broke out the free beverages from huge coolers—non-alcoholic—and the two little girls from our flight, one African American, one Mexican American—ran around serving us all apple juice and lemonade, and they were covered with powdered sugar, too. And I noticed my new best friend—by now we were holding hands—had a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing with green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition. Always carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere. And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought, this is the world I want to live in. The shared world. Not a single person in this gate—once the crying of confusion stopped—has seemed apprehensive about any other person. They took the cookies. I wanted to hug all those other women, too. This can still happen anywhere. Not everything is lost.”

Me: Ok, getting ready to rough it in the woods. No luxuries, no distractions, limited medical supplies, let's go.
My body: You got it boss. One massive, acutely painful blind pimple coming up. Hope you weren't too attached to tilting your head even slightly in any direction.
Yes or one of these will come visit you in the middle of the night...
This is karma...

If you promise to be a good human, the sweet one will visit instead...

Your choice?

Be a good human.
Character matters.

guys help I’m making a playlist of songs that are just like. so incredibly human. like the human experience but in song form. idk how exactly to explain it but songs that just feel like r a w existence?? that’s the best way I can put it.
Here’s some songs already on it plssss send more if you have any I’d love to hear them

Although I guess if I knew tomorrow, I guess I wouldn’t need faith // I guess if I never fell, I guess I wouldn’t need grace // I guess if I knew His plans, I guess He wouldn’t be God
Another song perfect for noise cancelling headphones. This song really loses the cool effects without headphones. Jon is amazing with his pans in this song, making the sound come from everywhere at once. I love the lyrics as well. Awesome song.
i ALWAYS think about this it’s so so beautiful
The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacher’s who I had when I was nine. I’m now twenty one and he’s been dead eight years but my i’s still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We haven’t spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I don’t know it. How beautiful.
~Edit~
Yikes guys I didn’t expect this post to blow up.
I’m grateful it did though. Looking at all the comments and tags really takes a stab at my heart because it just shows how wired we are for connection. If life has any meaning, then it’s that.
This concept really sunk its teeth into me as it reassures the notion that no one is ever truly gone. Parts of them just change into you.
That teacher I talked about inspired me to become a teacher myself. This was my first year teaching. Here’s to a new generation of curved i’s.
sometimes you just need to blast sad music in headphones and finger paint memories in the dark
I am this. Especially #12.
Humans are adorable.
Supporting evidence:
1. Humans say ‘ow’, even if they haven’t actually been hurt. It’s just a thing they say when they think they might have been hurt, but aren’t sure yet.
2. Humans collect shiny things and decorate their bodies and nests with them. The shinier the better, although each individual has a unique taste for style and colouring
3. Humans are not an aquatic or even amphibious species, but they flock to bodies of water simply to play in it. They can’t even hold their breath all that long; they just love to splash!
4. When night falls and the sky goes dark, humans become drowsy and begin to cocoon themselves in soft, fluffy bedding.
5. Some humans spend time in each other’s nests! Just for fun! It’s not their nest; they’re just visiting each other.
6. Some humans use pigments and dyes to make their bodies flashy and colourful! They even attach shiny dangly bits to their cartalidgous membranes!
7. Humans are very clever, and sometimes adopt creatures from other species into their family units. They don’t seem to notice the obvious differences, and often raise them alongside their own young!
8. If a human sees another creature in distress, they can commonly be observed trying to help! Even at their own risk, most humans are deeply compassionate creatures!
9. If a human hears a particularity catchy sound or tune, it will often mimic it, even to the point of annoying themselves!
10. Sneezes are entirely involuntary, and completely adorable. Especially when the human in question becomes frustrated
11. Humans love treats!!! Some more than others. Many humans will save these treats specifically for a later date when they are in need of comfort or reassurance. IE, pickles, pop tarts, Popsicles, etc
12. They’re learning to travel in space!!! They can’t get very far, but they’re trying!!! So far, they’ve made it to the end of their yard, and have found rocks
