“Nadia,” I whisper to her one morning, sitting across from her on her window perch. “Nadia, I’m worried about you.”
She flexes her hands, her eyes darting between cars. “What’s there to worry about?”
“Nadia…” I tap my fingers against the carpet. Spit it out. “It’s okay to be upset.”
Her eyebrows twitch up in a weird sort of surprise. “I’m not upset, Edith.”
“You mope about everyday. You don’t leave the house unless you have a meeting with Carlos. You don’t talk anymore. You’re grieving.”
“I don’t grieve.”
“Everyone grieves.”
“I’m not everyone.”
“Nadia,” I sigh, grabbing her hand. She looks up at me. “No one’s gonna hate you for missing him.”

if you're trying to get into the head of your story's antagonist, try writing an "Am I the Asshole" reddit post from their perspective, explaining their problems and their plans for solving them. Let the voice and logic come through.
sometimes the moral of the story really is just "you cannot go back and what happened to you is going to be with you for the rest of your life. but it's still going to be okay" huh
