Liv came into the studio to get some of her own pointe work done. She really wasn’t supposed to do much dancing because of her career-ending hip injury, but she always went against that. Walking into one of the studios, she was surprised to see Mariana. More so because she hadn’t expected to see anyone. “I’m not going to yell at you! Why would I yell at you?” Liv asked, quirking a brow at her. “Take all the time you need. You know you’re always welcome here. Please, continue with what you’re doing!”
the dancer sighed of relief when liv confirmed that she wasn’t upset. “okay, good. i just automatically assume i’m going to get yelled at. bad habit.” she said with a small chuckle. “i probably need to take a break anyway, i’ve been at this for a few the whole day.” mariana walked over to her bag to drink fromher water bottle. “what are you up to tonight? pointe?” she asked, spotting the shoes peeking out of liv’s bag. “are you gonna be okay?”

I might be a dick but I am not that big of a dick.” Jae said loudly to make sure she heard him through the door. “So please open the door before your neighbors call the cops on me.” When she opened the door Jae crossed his arms, “I already regret this but I signed my soul to the devil.” Jae walked inside and went straight to the kitchen, “So am I just going to get a matching gnome to symbolize our love?”
“aw, you care about me so much. glad to know you wouldn’t give me a tattoo of a dick.” mariana replied. she locked the door behind him and followed him to the kitchen. “i promise i won’t give you anything too stupid.” she smirked and sat the counter. “i don’t want to tell you! it’d ruin the fun. it could be a gnome, an octagon, a bowling ball. any of these could symbolize our love. matching garden gnomes would be cute though.”

jagger gave a small nod of appreciation, “thank you so much,” he said, standing up from the table and almost bumping his head on the damn low-hanging lamp. “jesus,” he muttered, before disappearing to the bathroom where he emerged just a couple of minutes later. “you’re an angel,” jagger said, “it’s not like i have anything valuable but if my work things got stolen and the paperwork? fuck, i’d probably get my ass sued.” he chuckled softly as he sat back down, giving her a warm smile. “i’m jagger, by the way. and yes, my mum loved mick jagger, it’s a whole thing.”
by the time he came back, she was sipping on a cup of water. “its no problem. damn, sued? what kind of work do you do?” mariana inquired, an eyebrow raised. if she lost some papers at beyond the crust, the most she would get is an eyeroll. it was a pizza place, though. not really the most important line of work. “mariana. i really wish i had a cool story to my name, but i’m pretty sure my parents just got it from a baby names book or something.” she chuckled. after getting a good look at his face, she asked, “you new around here? i don’t think i’ve seen you before. its the whole small town thing; pretty much everyone knows of everyone.”

“MAR, DARLING, i was just thinking about you! i saw the most beautiful fabric the other day and i—” adelaide responded to her friend’s call with a gleeful tone however, as the other began to speak, the b&b owner could notice her voice heavier than usual, making her frown every so slightly, unease settling on the pit of her stomach. “never too busy for you. eds is doing a school project and will stay over at a friend’s, come over. i’ll make us something to snack over with the wine, are you okay, sweetie?” addie questioned, a hint of worry in her voice as she began to tidy around the apartment before receiving her guest, phone tugged between her ear and her shoulder.
a quiet sigh escaped from her lips. she had always been a bad liar, especially when it came to addie. it never mattered, though. the older woman seemed to always know how she was feeling. that’s one of the things mariana loved about her. “i-um-i’m okay. just the usual family bullshit. don’t worry about it.” she tried her best to sound like she wasn’t the mess that she was. “its all good. do you want red or white wine? i honestly should give you a few of these bottles because i have way too much for just me. maybe i could save them for when ed gets old enough, as a gift.” she let out a chuckle as she rambled, an attempt to change the subject.

Dot offered Mariana a warm smile when she told her how honored she was to be in her presence. You’d think after thirty-five years as a critically acclaimed Ballerina she’d stop feeling nervous when people would fawn over her, particularly young aspiring dancers. Nope, still felt odd. “It’s great to finally meet you, Mariana. My niece Livie speaks highly of you. She thinks you’ve got real potential, that’s why I chose you to be my assistant after all.” Dottie laid a hand on the girls shoulder. “I want you to feel at ease when we work together, don’t be afraid to be yourself. Don’t let my name or the titles get in your head. You may be disappointed when you find out just how ordinary I really am.” She laughed, being uppity was never thing.
“ I chose you for a reason, you are a dedicated dancer with talent. I’m equally honored to be working with you.” Dottie hoped that would ease the girl’s feelings about dancing in front of someone so well known. “It’s my fault we hadn’t met before, i’m terrible with time management lately. I kept meaning to get a one-on-one with you so I could see your technique. I’m eager to see you dance. I suppose we’ve got the time now though, If your up for it?”
“oh, i love liv! she’s been so nice to me and has helped me out a lot.” it was true. she had grown quite a lot since she had first started dancing at en pointe, even more after meeting olivia. mariana let out a small sigh, mostly of relief. she was quite tense about the whole situation. she had worked with several renowned dancers before, but more as a student and less as an equal. she was glad that she could be comfortable around dottie. “alright, i can do that.” she replied with a smile.
heat rushed to her face as dottie complimented her. she busied herself with taking her shoes off and stretching to hide her red cheeks. “thank you, that means a lot coming from you.” her smile was bright. “sure, i can show you something.” mariana replied. she had already mentally prepared for this moment on her way over to the studio. “i actually have something i’ve been working on. i can show you that.” she said as she walked over to the speaker, plugged in her phone, and selected the music. it was a lyrical piece, the accompanying music being “my petition” by jill scott. it had the right balance of technique, tricks, and emotion. she always loved to tell a story through her choreography, and she hoped that the story would be conveyed well to dottie. whenever mari danced, she felt like she was on another planet, speaking a different language through movement. she didn’t even realize that she was done until the music stopped and she snapped back to reality. “what do you think?” she asked, breathless.

it had become a routine for mariana to grab a coffee after work, if it wasn’t extremely late. that day was no different as she stood, waiting for her cappuccino to be ready. out of the corner of her eye, she could see some movement at a table. instinctively, she looked over, finding the movement to be jacob. she smiled and walked over to his table, “hey, i didn’t even see you over here! you want some company?”

“Hey I am happy we are able to outline those boundaries between a gnome and a dick.” He said trying to sound as serious as possible. Jae popped up from the fridge holding a drink and leaning on the counter opposite of Mariana. “If I have a say in any of this then I would appreciate if the tattoo were on my arm.” He said taking a sip, “Oh my god wait you should give me a bowling ball and you get the pins because I knock you over with my amazing personality.” He cheekily said smiling at her. “But for real you got home safely right? You wouldn’t let me walk you up to your apartment because you said and I quote I am the biggest asshole you have ever met.”
mariana made a dramatic face, as if she was thinking about his request. “alright i’ll agree to the arm. same place as mine.” she agreed, looking down at her tattoo again. it was starting to grow on her by the minute. “wait that’s actually so cute. inaccurate, though. if this were a bowling situation, you would definitely be the pins.” mari chuckled. “yeah, i made it up here okay. i fell going up the stairs and i have a bruise on my ankle, but i was fine.” she replied before pulling up her pant leg to show the bruise. “i said that? you know i didn’t mean it. you forgive me?”

Jacob sat at the cafe, sipping a chai tea latte and reading a new book he had picked up from the library on his way there. He looked up when he heard a voice and gave a small wave to Mariana. “Hey you.” He smiled, motioning his hand towards the empty seat across from him. “Please, take a seat!” He said, putting a book mark in his book and setting it down next to him. “How are you?” He asked.
mariana sat in the empty seat, which felt great after her long day. “i’m pretty good. just work and dance, the usual tiring routine.” she shrugged, smiling. “how have you been? i feel like i haven’t talked to you in forever. you look really good, by the way.” her eyes traveled to the book he put down on the table. “what’s this?” she inquired as she went to pick up the book.

Jae prepared to put on his best puppy eyes but was happy she agreed. Those should only have to come out in extreme situations. He shrugged and took another sip of his drink the cold liquid helping with his throbbing headache. “I guess you are right but then how am I going to explain to my future lovers why I have a pin on my arm. That I get constantly destroyed by my best friend?” Jae asked before looking down at her bruise. Worried, he kneeled down and held it looking it over before grabbing a pack of peas from the freezer. “I told you to be careful. Your stairs are literally a fire hazard.” Jae looked up and laughed, “Oh please, if I got upset everytime you called me an asshole then we wouldn’t have been friends for this long. So do you have a cast? or should I become your personal uber?”
“wait a minute, i thought we were getting married? jae, you’re breaking my heart.” mariana jokingly, her facial expression only adding to the drama. “well i hope you’d say that, since its the truth. besides, how is it any better if i’m the one getting destroyed?” her eyebrow quirked up in inquiry. she couldn’t help but wince as he held her ankle. “yeah, yeah. you told me so.” she didn’t realize how sore it really was between her drunken state of the previous night and the killer hangover she had the next morning. mari tried to put some ice on it once she woke up that morning, but it didn’t help much. “very true. we would’ve stopped talking to each other after a week, if that was the case. my vote is for personal uber, but, honestly, i’m alright. i can probably drive on it, i’ll just cry in pain the whole time.”

Honestly, I'd rather not remember RWBY... but Yang is the closest character I could think of whose personality/vibes matched Luna without being too extreme. Inosuke from Demon Slayer is a little TOO aggressive and socially inept. And we do NOT discuss My Hero Academia in this house. So these two are the closest approximations.
Iris:
Kocho Shinobu (Demon Slayer), Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
For those who don't know, Shinobu is a doctor whose usual bright smile hides homicidal rage. She's not smiling here because I couldn't find a decent picture.
Elizabeth is kind of a stretch, honestly. But she's the closest to a "bookworm" character I have on-hand that's not from a novel or obscure franchise, other than perhaps Jo March... but she's not as snarky as Elizabeth imo.
Claire:
Toph Bei Fong (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Mao Mao (Apothecary Diaries)
We DO NOT discuss My Hero Academia here... but I can't find a better embodiment of that Ben Affleck smoking meme than Aizawa at this point. So he gets a dishonorable mention.
Mao Mao being an apothecary would usually make her a better fit for Iris, but she's too much of a gremlin too often to work. It's the INTENSITY of her fixation that fits Claire, not the subject of it (Claire likes dragons).
Felix:
Honey from Ouran High School Host Club, Nie Huaisang from Founder of Diabolism
As he gets older, Felix will shed the Honey vibes and come across more like Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, but he spends a good chunk of the story like this.

WIP Questionnaire Tag
Thanks for the tag, @mysticstarlightduck! I'll use Traveling Bards for this, as is the current trend for me.
1. What’s the first part of your WIP that you created?
The outline? That's usually how I start. If you mean of the actual story, then chapter 1. If you mean the concept itself, the characters.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
Best I can find is Passerine by The Oh Hellos (the artists who made Solider, Poet, King). I'd love to find a more comedic/energetic song, though.
3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?
Within this story? The MCs, lol. Especially Felix, my beloved son! I'm not gonna lie, the sisters are inspired by some IRL people that I love very much. But even without that, they're just so fun! This is my first "simple"/comedy story, so there's less of a focus on prose or "depth" and more on me just dicking around with these guys, so I'm really having a blast with them. Their characters are the most unhinged I've written so far, though I hope to change that soon.
Felix isn't inspired by an IRL person, but he's kind of shameless wish-fulfillment. Traveling Bards initially began as a parody of a very specific genre of anime, so he's essentially what I wish would happen/what I love to see for characters with his archetype.
For the favorites of all time? Can't choose, honestly. Love all of them!
4. What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?
Memes. Or, I'd hope so. If it ever got adapted, I'd love a compilation video or funny edits. Regardless? Endless shitposts, sprinkled with random and unwarranted brainrot thesis-long thinkpieces on elements of my characters and world-building that I never even considered when writing it that ultimately change the way even I view my characters. I'd love a good Tumblr essay from someone being Totally Normal about one of my funky little guys.
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?
Actually writing it! Lmao. For the 3 people that have seen my writing logs, you'd know I had to recently overhaul the entire initial arc as well as the 3 chapters I already wrote! Though I guess plot points would also be part of that struggle.
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
All kinds! Anything from normal animals to classic fantasy ones to ones I personally made up! My favorite out of all of them are the dragons. Because dragons are fucking awesome. My second favorite are the ones I made myself.
One of the first ones I introduce is the "crystal frog" which is this really cute frog that's quite literally translucent- kind of like the glass frog, but even more translucent! And light refracts off of it like a crystal!
7. How do your characters travel/get around?
Carriage/horse most often at first, then eventually via ship, then flying (with magic or on a magic creature). So. Basically anything but a plane or car.
8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?
Actually writing it! I'm currently only a few chapters in on my first rough draft. My goal is to create the entire rough draft with as few edits as possible and then to go back and revise the whole thing, since that'll be easier for me than trying to make each chapter "perfect" before I move on.
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) You think will draw your audience in?
I guess for those that are more familiar with this genre, it'll be that. Isekais/reincarnation/transmigration/portal fantasy/whatever you want to call it. It's also got found family and friendship (kinda spoiler-y, but there's a sibling adoption involved!). Lots of "be gay, do crime" instances too.
It's also primarily an adventure-comedy, with a kinda parody-angle to it. They're intentionally gunning for these classic Hero Adventure experiences, in a bucket-list kind of way. Also, they're bards (for lack of a more accurate and snappy term) in a fantasy setting. So if you like a heavy emphasis on a sibling bond and ridiculous people getting into ridiculous situations of their own making, I'm hoping this will be appealing!
10. What are your hopes for your WIP?
That it gets finished, LMAO. My goal is to complete the rough draft by the end of summer, so that I can spend fall and winter revising, rewriting, editing, etc. I eventually hope (like most writers) to one day publish it. But let's not get ahead of ourselves! I can't get there if I don't even finish it.

8/10. This works only if there are no adorable children younger than her in the games. But on ability alone? Yeah. She'd mow the competition down with surprising skill and strategy.
"Luna does intricate and expensive cosplays."
Meh. Not really? She loves a good excuse to do some dress-up from time to time, though. The fancier the better! I just don't think she'd find the appeal in dressing as another person. 6/10.

0/10 This girl gets LONELY!!! Absolute female golden retriever tbh. Loves people. Loves company. Do NOT leave this girl alone unattended, for her well-being and everyone else's!!! She cannot go unsupervised for more than 10 minutes!!!

Honestly, as an asexual, I'd say to just assume everyone I write is ace by default until I say otherwise, just because it's never even in my headspace. But Luna specifically is straight, or maybe uninterested? Less in an "I've discovered I'm aromantic" way and more in a "wouldn't know her own feelings if they slapped her in the face" way.

Do you have any siblings? If so, how good is your relationship Two sisters, unfortunately. I love them, I do! But I also want to strangle them to death just as much. I know I wouldn't be able to do this without them, though. Just do NOT tell them I said that. We also adopted a brother recently. Honestly, he's more like my son. He's an angel. God's gift to mankind. If anything happens to him, I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself.
What was the toughest time you had to endure while growing up? Middle school. I was kind of a doormat growing up. I got over it eventually, but the less said about that time the better. Mostly because I barely remember it to begin with.

Do you know how to dance? If so what kinds? Yeah! I know some traditional elven dances. I'm not that good at them, but my favorite is kinda similar to human step-dances, 'cause it's one of the fastest ones. It's all in the footwork.
What's the season you hate the most? What's your favorite season? I HATE winter. My favorite's gotta be spring! Most fae-types kinda wilt without sun, y'know? Think seasonal depression, but WAY worse.
Do you have any unusual fears? Escalators. Not elevators, escalators.
Felix:
Do you know how to dance? If so what kinds? As a prince, it was part of my standard royal education to learn traditional ballroom dances. I excelled, actually! So I was also taught some classic foreign dances for diplomatic reasons. But my favorites are the ones my sisters taught me! Like "free-styling", or "the dougie". It's very wild! The commoners have some dances too, and they're very invigorating! But I haven't learned any of the names. I should do that.
What's the season you hate the most? What's your favorite season? I don't know. It used to be summer, when I was a lot younger. Then winter. But I've gained an appreciation for cold nights by a fire with my sisters. There's lots of things to like about each season!

6, at best 7 (though she swears it's 10)

Depends? If there's a clear physical danger, it's flight. If it's a nonviolent confrontation, fight.

HUGE family. on the younger end of 10 children. Isn't so much of a "family person" as she's a "put up with them because I begrudgingly love them and my world is too small to have any other perspective" person (but she does love them).

A grumpy but lazy cat.

Extremely heavy perfumes. For a specific scent, boiled broccoli.

Stunned-still, then pretending to be annoyed (but secretly pleased by the attention). She otherwise hates surprises, though.

Not particularly. It gets in the way of her usual activities. A simple necklace will do, maybe something sentimental.

Neat.

Annoyance and boredom.

Wool, perhaps? or cotton? IDK I'm not a fabric girly. Something suitable for the weather and breathable.
