Wei Wuxain - Tumblr Posts
Wei Wuxian is the Most Character of all time cause it’s so solidly established from the very beginning of the narrative that he’s nothing short of a genius. Hes a master of the five arts. He ranks pretty high in the eligible young master list for a guy who isn’t even a sect heir. He’s also so acutely self-aware. Maybe even too much so. His hands are rated E for everyone and he always has a plan and he’s always two steps ahead. But then he’s also like I’m Straight and my need to be as physically close to LWJ as possible is simply a Part Of The Bit. I will rain praise on him to the point that it annoys people around me but I’m Straight Of Course. I’m gonna tell this waiter my name is Lan. Isn’t it so funny Lan Zhan it’s like I’m part of your clan like we are married! This sex I’m having with Lan Zhan is Platonic Sex which is a completely normal and real thing to happen by the way.

omg saw hanguang-jun winning in a fight against yiling laozu😳😳😳😳😳
i feel like this fandom does not appreciate the amount of psychic damage lwj was dealt when wwx assumed 'come back to gusu with me' meant lwj wanted to lock him up
Wangxian is such a pervasive otp because it fits literally every trope at once. It's both slowburn because they have 20+ years worth of miscommunication foreplay and fastburn because they get married and start fucking literally the second they're alone after affirming that they're dating. It's a high school romance and a romance between 40+ year old coworkers. It's enemies to friends to enemies to lovers. They're both "I could fix him" AND "I could make him worse". Obsessed.
One of my fave things about Wei Ying is that when he fantasized about living with Lan Zhan, he imagined Lan Zhan staying home and mending clothes and cooking and cleaning and just generally waiting for Wei Ying to get back. Because Wei Ying imagined that he would go out and hunt or fish or farm. Wei Ying’s dirty fantasy was that Lan Zhan would live a domestic life with him where he provided food (at least ingredients).
It will never stop being funny that, in the WangXian dynamic, the man who is rumoured to have had sex with so many women as well as had virgins (for their blood? For the sex? For fun? Who knows? Have a virgin!) just hanging around, he fantasized about having a domestic life and farming and fishing. And the “Light Bearing Lord” who came from a respected family and is known as cold and standoffish and feared as much as he’s respected, he fantasized about sex eight times a day with his husband.
It’s hilarious! But, it is also terribly sad!
Wei Ying just wants a home. A place he can go where someone is waiting for him. A place that he can go to and the someone waiting for him is happy that he’s there. A place where he can relax and have fun and his idea of fun is fishing, hunting, and farming. A place where he’s allowed to just be himself, no pretending necessary, he can just exist and have someone exist by his side in harmony.
And then, while I’m thinking about this, I remember that my actual favourite thing from the book is when Wei Ying sits on Little Apple and has Lan Wangji pull the reins because he remembers his mom sitting while his dad pulled the reins. And he thinks about how great it would be if they had a kid so that the kid could sit on Lan Zhan’s shoulders like he sat on his dad’s shoulders. And he recreates this scene, this innocuous scene and it makes him so happy and Lan Zhan doesn’t even question for a milisecond why Wei Ying wants him to do this after he realizes that it makes Wei Ying happy.
They just… am love each other… so much… for so long… and they… they… they are they and that is wonderful…

Lan Qiren: Were is Wei Wuxian?
Lan Xichen: Doing stuff.
Lan Qiren: I don't like the sound of that. Were is Jiang Wanyin?
Lan Xichen: Trying to prevent Wei Wuxian from doing stuff.
Lan Qiren: And Nie Huaisang?
Lan Xichen: Trying to prevent Jiang Wanyin from preventing Wei Wuxian from doing stuff.
Lan Qiren: Of course he is. For that matter, why are YOU here? Isn't this the time you usually use to read at the library?
Lan Xichen: Usually yes, however right now I'm using this time to prevent you from preventing Nie Huaisang from preventing Jiang Wanyin from preventing Wei Wuxian from doing stuff, since the said stuff is my brother.
I think one of the biggest sells for mdzs is the fact that one of the characters is really mad about being gay but not because of internalized homophobia it's just because hes a hall monitor and his crush is the class clown

I have nothing against cutsleeves, but you’re all so annoying. Fuck you
- anybody at the Guanyin Temple, probably

re: i won't let you undress corpse trousers re: i'm drunk and i don't like wen ning re: pre-yi city's waiter that got too handsy with wwx "why's this guy looking like i laid a hand on his wife" re: i'm drunk again and i don't like wen ning
Yiling Wei sect AU but it's accidental
People keep coming to Wei Ying asking for help or for shelter for a while and he says yes because these people have nobody to turn to and it's not like he's living in the lap of luxury but he still has some kind of roof over his head so why not
They start helping with agriculture and buildings and all that stuff because they want to pay back the kindness they were given; some are even craftsmen or scholars and they teach others various skills to provide for the community
Some want to learn cultivation but they never could because they didn't have access to it and Wei Ying decided to teach them a bit because it's better to be able to defend oneself in the Burial Mounds, after all
Suddenly Wei Ying has like 50 disciples and a whole actually livable settlement, steady income and requests from villages around to help with things that other cultivation clans couldn't have been bothered to help with
And one day someone calls him "Wei-zonghzhu" and he has a Realization
( I have the very lovely @kimalysong to thank for encouraging me to post this bit of overthinking which I greatly appreciate!)
Now that we have a full line up of the EN release for the covers of the main story for MDZS, I was curious to discuss the running theme of them which consists of Wei Wuxian metaphorically looking towards his future (meaning Lan Wangji) throughout the art.
For reference, each of the covers:

In the first, we are given Wei Wuxian's first meeting with Lan Wangji, which was were his subconscious spark started for him and his continued badgering of Lan Wangji under the guise of him wanting to get any other reaction aside from aloof from him. Which is fitting for his later confession of him saying all he did and do was out of want for Lan Wangji to follow him and be with him even all those years ago.
The second is just coming off of Wei Wuxian's musings of him thinking it would have been Jiang Cheng standing by him for equality and protecting each other, only for it to be Lan Wangji, who he thought hated him to show gentleness and care for his well-being. It is after that point that he fully places his trust and listens to Lan Wangji's own input through the volume. As well as Wei Wuxian's own suppressed feelings making themselves known to him more openly now that he feels secure in Lan Wangji's trust in Wei Wuxian as well. This is also the first time Wei Wuxian kisses Lan Wangji only to feel guilt much as Lan Wangji had for taking someone's first kiss, without the other fully knowing and the presumption they don't really like them.
The third, is the one to change that aesthetic visual. It feels colder as Wei Wuxian isn't the one looking longingly at the object of his affection any more , and it is Lan Wangji now instead. Here it is because this is the volume where Wei Wuxian is made to choose other's survival over his wants. He has made his choice to be seen as an enemy of the world despite having not said this himself and trying to remain on the low with the Wens that he helped to protect. By that end he has made terms that he would be unable to ever see Lan Wangji again as he himself is no longer part of the cultivation world needing to lose the ties that he had once held dear for survival of those he has protected. He has been made to feel as if he is the only one able to do this and unable to share the truth of his own sacrifices that had led to it all.
This builds up to the betrayal lead by Jiang Cheng believing others against Wei Wuxian. And, where Wei Wuxian hysterically says he had always known it would be Lan Wangji to stand against him with a sword to cut him down. All while not realizing that Lan Wangji had been there to help and give him more time as to not be killed. Something that Wei Wuxian was unaware of in his grief and hurt due to the world labelling him something he never had been. And it is Lan Wangji's time to take a step forward to do something in regards to his feelings for Wei Wuxian despite what the world and his own doubts say.
And finally, the fourth, which interestingly features Jiang Yanli as well as Jiang Cheng. Unlike the earlier back cover design of two which features Xiao Xingchen, a figure that was mused upon by Wei Wuxian, but not emotionally connected or known to him for his tragedy.

Two figures that had great prominence and hold over Wei Wuxian. Jiang Yanli with her motherly love and tenderness as the good, and Jiang Cheng, the albatross metaphorically that held Wei Wuxian down with regrets, jealousy and debts owed to him and his hurts. Yet he is not looking at either one any longer who he has left to his past, as he chooses to live in the present and the well-being of those he can trust and be trusted in turn.
This is also juxtaposed with the cover symbol on the fourth volume being a lotus. The lotus traditionally represents the breakthrough of worldly harsh adversity, while remaining steadfast to be seen as the growth into the ultimate awakening of purity of heart, mind, and spirituality. Harmony, and unwavering faith for the one you love. He is not looking to the past once again and has become sure of his ending and love with Lan Wangji that had endured despite hardship, unlike many other endings for the people he had cared for in the past. According to Buddhist proverb: to live life with unwavering faith, as the lotus does, ensures the most beautiful of revivals.

I drew it a year ago and the idea was super cool but I was too lazy to finish… 🧍
