I have a few WIPs but none of them feel ready enough to share except from the story I’ve already given a sneak preview from, so here’s another preview from the same story but a few chapters in:

Doug grew wiser too. Letting Maddie keep their child had been the smartest move he had ever made, because she would do anything for the girl, meaning all he had to do was threaten to withhold something and she would bend to his will. There were moments too he’d bring Erin toys and stuff because he isn’t a monster, but he mainly did it because he knew it scored him points with Maddie.

Now though, as he loads his daughter's dead body into the back of his truck, he doesn’t know where he and Maddie stand. She’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever set his eyes on and she loves him and he can’t afford to lose her. His dad always said no one would ever love him, but he was wrong because Maddie loves him. She said so herself multiple times. He knows now he’ll just have to go buy a shovel and make this whole burial quick that way he can get back to Maddie and comfort her.

She loved Erin sure, but they can have another kid. He can give Maddie another kid to love just as much as she did Erin. Maybe this time it will be a boy. The idea of having a son has always sat nicely in his head even before he knew Erin was a girl. This time he can name it, maybe after himself. He can have a boy to carry his legacy around. Maybe even become a doctor.

The idea puts a grin on Doug’s face as he starts his car up and pulls out of the driveway.

This is a second chance for them, a chance to have a real family, and he won’t waste it.
