Rycin found teenage Hamlin beat up in an alley after his first day as an Azorius Arrester and helped him out. They ended up having a Puss in Boots and Perrito type of friendship until Rycin eventually warmed up to him. Nitrogen is a nickname they gave him because he was such an “airhead,” and then it kind of stuck. Now in his 30s, their friendship has sort of evolved into more of a pseudo-parent and child. Nitrogen is a ball of absolute sunshine around Rycin, but he can be intimidating as an arrester. Whenever Rycin has a job cleaning up a body in a harder-to-access area of District 10, they invite Nitrogen and they make a day out of it. Nitrogen scares off anyone questioning what Rycin is doing there and Rycin treats them both to lunch/dinner afterwards.
Although he’s decently good at his job, Nitrogen’s goal in life is to be a therapist and help people. He struggled a lot when he first started out as an arrester because he always tried to talk people through their problems (and then got beat up because who brought a therapist to stop a robbery?). Last we saw him in-campaign, he finally finished submitting all the forms to be certified as an Azorius Psychologist and finally started Rycin “mom.”
