The sad part is this applies to people who live in nursing homes too. If they are on Medicare/Medicaid, all the money except $30 is to pay the nursing home. But the kicker is if the resident for some reason just keep saving the money and it gets up to $2000 or more the government will make them pay in whole their care in the nursing home.

Abled Person: Hey man, can you hold this wad of $2,000 and this one penny for me while I open my wallet?

I did not actually expect this to happen. Now, to get the charge to stick, and to get a conviction. Still waiting on the trial for the two EMTs who killed a guy, too. I'll give you one guess what both murdered people had in common. come on. guess.
