Let someone from the opposite sect dare and - like us - bring deep evidence and prove that he is a villain! I like to see them try!

Okay but it's not about surface-level charm, it's about the character's inner motivations and actions.

And I have to say we stand by our research and conclusion.

He didn't seem to mind leaving.

This explains things even further. I would like to see how haters want to continue..

The King's Fall

There’s something important I’d like to share about this story.

The king, deeply shaken and worried about an unknown threat, feels the weight of being the sole protector of his kingdom. His trauma from past experiences and the fear of possibly not being able to deal with this danger consume him. He turns to the resources at his disposal but finds no answers. The only remaining option he can think of is the forbidden book. But then his wife suggests asking for help from the people of Rosas, an idea he accepts.

The king summons the people, asking for their help identifying the traitor threatening the kingdom. He asks them only to provide information so that he can deal with it himself.

But once the questions begin and someone says the trigger word “wish”, everyone quickly forgets about the urgent matter and starts asking about wishes. They question the king’s competence in protecting their wishes and begin clamoring for a new wish ceremony.

“Can you hold a wish ceremony? We’d be happy.”

“Can you hold a ceremony today?”

“Can you hold a ceremony NOW?”

With everyone talking at once, it was disrespectful and inconsiderate. Naturally, the king would be irritated.

(What do you think this is? Christmas?)

Bringing order and demanding silence, he asks if all they can think about is the wish ceremony, and they confirm that yes, all they think about is the wish ceremony.

The disappointment and irritation are obvious.

In his frustration, he makes a deal: those who help him will be rewarded with a wish, but those who help the traitor will not. This was quite sensible, as they don’t seem inclined to be helpful otherwise.

So… the worst thing that can happen to traitors is not having their wish granted by the king they betrayed… no imprisonment? no banishment? Okay…

The movie makes it seem like he was irrational and overreacted by getting upset. However, it doesn’t take much to realize that the people’s behavior was incredibly annoying; he has every right to be irritated.

Amaya says they acted this way because the king made them comfortable enough to do so. Which is true. They were very comfortable and complacent.

So, he goes out to vent and de-stress alone, which is perfectly reasonable?

He’s at the height of his stress and irritation, disappointed with his people. Add the past trauma. There’s an unknown threat, and he’s the only one who can defend the kingdom. Seeing no other options, since he’s already tried everything he can think of, he turns to the last resort: the forbidden book. His strong emotions clouded his vision and judgment. He made a hasty and poor decision, which was his mistake, and he ended up cursed.

That said, I’d like to share a piece of life advice that applies to everyone.

Never make any decisions when you’re emotionally shaken, especially important decisions.

When you’re overwhelmed by your emotions, it clouds your vision and judgment. You can’t see the big picture, and reality becomes blurred. If you act hastily, unless a miracle happens, you’ll most likely make a bad decision that you’ll regret later.

Even the most altruistic person can make mistakes under the impact of emotions, making poor decisions that negatively affect those around them and themselves.

You can be stressed, you can be angry. Take some time for yourself and do whatever helps you de-stress. But don’t make any decisions in that state. Calm yourself first. Then, yes, carefully analyze your options and make a decision. Don’t be hasty.

Therefore, it’s essential for everyone to learn and develop the ability to manage their emotions properly. Developing emotional intelligence and self-control is crucial for living a balanced and wise life. Live wisely, and you will live well.

If trauma is involved, the challenge is even greater, as it directly attacks your emotions and judgment, distorting reality further. It is crucial that you seek to work through and heal from your trauma, no matter how big or small, so that it does not control you and your life.

You are not your emotions.

You are not your trauma.

Don’t let these things control you.

You are greater than all of this, even if you don’t feel like it is true. The truth is, you can win and overcome all of these things.

Cursed Villain Magnifico Muahaha

Now let's talk about The Curse!

In the beginning, Amaya says the book's curse would control him. Later, Amaya searches the book for a way to free him from this curse. She is not looking to reduce his power, but to free him from the control, because he wouldn't cause any harm if he weren't under the curse's influence.

However, when she reads the evil book, she discovers that there is no way to break the curse.

"I am the great one and my power is greater than anything. Don’t even try." – source: Evil Book about itself.

So, Amaya simply gives up because the source is considered very reliable and she sees no other options.

"Aw, so sad, anyway"

What is this??? I can think of 2 or 3 ways to break this curse. However, no one tried anything, and after that, they acted as if he had always been like this.

Amaya could have saved the day, but instead, she acted bizarrely and without emotion. She didn't even lament. It was scary and strange.

Changing the subject, you know what’s funny? He is being controlled by an Evil Curse, but even so, he doesn’t show himself to be a real danger.

(The script weakened him so that Asha wouldn’t be defeated the moment he saw her.)

So we end up with a silly guy walking around with messy hair, playing pranks, and making jokes that only he finds funny.

The worst he did was consume wishes, which is bad, but it only made people sad. And it was easily undone later. He didn’t send anyone to the dungeons or exile either.

In the final battle, what did he do? He put his face on everything that reflected, trapped the star, created a cloud to prevent another star from being brought, painted the place with rose thorns (without actual thorns) with magic slime, and stuck people to the ground.

His attacks only pushed people without causing any damage. When he was losing, he released green smoke on people. No one even coughed.

(Oh Look! They could have broken the curse here but they chose to wish for ''something more'' for themselves.)

He squeezed Asha with magic and threw her to the ground. He didn’t threaten to push Asha off the tower like any normal villain would.

He also doesn’t attack Asha for revenge when he realizes he lost. And she was right there next to him.

Then, when he was trapped in the mirror he didn't seem so cursed anymore, what happened? idk

No one cared about him anyway.

Sooo... what was he planning to do with all the accumulated power? He didn’t have a clear objective. He didn't even say he wanted to conquer other lands or do anything.

What if no one had done anything in the end? What would he do?

I think he would vent his frustrations with a speech, maybe a reprise of "This is the thanks I get?" and then send everyone home grounded to "think about their bad behavior and ingratitude."

Most of the people agree that he was a very bad villain. He should have been more dangerous. Which is weird, because isn’t it a powerful curse that’s in control?

I concluded that this is the maximum evil the curse can make him achieve.

I find this very funny because I imagine The Curse being very frustrated.

I must say that he is what you know as the forbidden magic.

The king's fate at the end of Wish

The ending of "Wish" would be perfect for a story that shows the victim breaking free from the control of a pathological narcissist.

Typically, a narcissist's biggest victim is their spouse. In this case, Amaya.

So, in the end, he loses his power, ending up in the mirror where he will be trapped forever, alone in a dungeon.

Narcissists have no redemption. The right way to deal with a narcissist is to use the gray stone technique and cut all ties with them. Their end is loneliness.

That's a great message for a movie to convey.

But that's not the case with Magnifico.

I can't see him as the pathological narcissist that the ending required, simply because he had no malice. Instead, we have someone who cares and shows empathy and respect for others.

Real narcissists are incapable of empathy. They are evil and enjoy causing pain. That's their pleasure. And no, he wasn't faking it. He was genuine. The movie itself tells us that he was good, but then he “turned bad.” That’s not how narcissists work. They were never good to begin with.

It’s a complicated subject. Many people can be mistaken for narcissists because of certain bad, idiotic, and immature behaviors. But they are not really narcissists because they can overcome this and become better people. Narcissists don’t change and don’t want to change, they don’t think they’re wrong. That’s why they have no redemption.

Let’s look at Amaya, who his victim should be if he were truly a narcissist. Narcissists deceive and manipulate their victims into bonding, often through marriage. Then they show their true colors once the victim is trapped with them. They make their victim’s life miserable, disregard them, step on them, oppress them, and make them feel guilty about it. The only opinion that matters is their own. They know what they’re doing and they enjoy it.

Amaya and Magnifico have been married for years and… none of that happens. He genuinely loves her, shows her love, and respects her, her opinion matters, and he listens to her, changes his actions when she asks him to, gives her credit, and praises her. And he does all this when they’re alone, with no one to watch the “show.” He’s genuine.

He genuinely cares about people and wants to protect them; that’s his motivation. He showed empathy for Asha’s pain over the loss of her father and shared his own pain with her.

The movie needed the book with the curse for him to do bad things because without it he wouldn’t. And he was already known as the most powerful sorcerer. Why not use that power?

Because they needed a curse. 😑

I don’t understand why they did it that way. They just had to make the guy a true pathological narcissist. Since they didn’t do that, the movie pissed off a lot of people because the ending was unfair. Usually, unfairness makes people angry.

Did he have a problem? He did. But it wasn’t pathological narcissism. I already talked about his problem in my previous post.

A perfect example of a pathological narcissist in a position of power is Fire Lord Ozai from "Avatar: The Last Airbender". No one was sad when he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

An example of a narcissist in the mother position is Mother Gothel. She gaslighted, treated Rapunzel badly, and left her feeling guilty and afraid.

Gaston is also one. He doesn't care about Belle's opinion. He doesn't care about stepping on people. Many people compare Gaston to Magnifico because of the cringe compliments in the mirror. But really put them next to each other and compare how they see and treat people.

When a narcissist loses, usually, he explodes in fury and revenge and curses everyone.

What we got was someone betrayed by everyone, devastated with sad kicked puppy eyes. (WHY????!!) 😑

The movie shows that if it weren't for the cursed book he wouldn't have done any of that. If the wish system was bad, they could have resolved it peacefully.

Because he was completely redeemable, the ending was very ugly and unpleasant. It painted all the other characters as really bad, traitors, ungrateful, and selfish. Who only care about their own interests and gain.

In short: a tragedy.

Trauma and Protectiveness in Wish and Encanto

So, I watched Wish...

I don't think Wish needed a villain. In fact, I would have liked the film to follow the approach of Encanto (which I loved very much) because they both have points in common.

Yes, I will compare Abuela and Magnífico, two characters who, despite their differences, share similar problems.

Abuela went through a deep trauma in which she lost her home and her husband and had to raise her triplets alone while guiding her community as the bearer of the candle with the miracle that saved them, which originated from the sacrifice of her husband.

This trauma left her afraid of losing everything again, her family and her home. For her, the miracle was what protected them from doom. Therefore, she saw the miracle as the most important thing of all. She also saw it as her responsibility to serve the community with the magic of the miracle.

This made her become very strict and demanding, putting a lot of pressure on her family to be perfect and to serve the community with their abilities at all times.

What they could do became more important than who they were.

This is what caused the destruction of their home and their family relationships.

Magnifico also suffered a trauma, losing absolutely everything — his home and his family. However, he decided to dedicate his life to helping others and preventing them from suffering the same as he did. So he works hard to learn magic and build a kingdom from scratch with his own hands where everyone is welcome and he was very successful at it.

(yes, this is a very good character we have here)

His trauma, like Abuela's, made him afraid that tragedy would happen again.

His way of dealing with it was to take all this responsibility and pressure of caring and protecting and put it on himself and no one else. Carrying it all on his shoulders.

He will only do what he thinks is safe. And since we have trauma involved, he has his own safety measures. He becomes overprotective. (I can talk more about this in another post haha)

He would do everything he could for them because he didn't want them to feel pain and sadness. That was his motivation.

And that's not healthy either.

He sounds a lot like a family man who lost everything when he was young, someone who grew up in need and had to work hard to create a successful life. A story of overcoming.

So he starts a family. He wants them to have a good life and not suffer the pain he suffered. He protects them. He gives them everything he can. He does everything for them. Everything he didn't have when he was younger he will give them. Because he knows the pain of lack.

But then he ends up spoiling his children and being overprotective.

There are many parents like that.

The tendency is for the children to become spoiled, ungrateful and dependent.

They will not appreciate what they receive because they do not have to work for it. Everything was handed to them on a silver platter without effort. They also start to think they deserve to have everything handed to them just because yes. So they expect to get more and more. Give me! give me!

That's exactly how the people of Rosas were.

They expected their king to give them everything and more because, well, he did.

For them, the most important thing was what the king could do for them.

I really wish they had gone the route of Encanto.

At the end of the movie, when the house falls down, Abuela acknowledges her mistakes and Mirabel shows empathy by acknowledging her pain and all her work. She says something like “Nothing is so broken that we can’t fix it, together” and they reconcile. It was beautiful. After that, everyone comes together to rebuild, with the help of the community as a gesture of gratitude for everything the family has done for them.

If the ending of Wish had been one of understanding, reconciliation and respect, it would have been so good.

And it would have achieved the production’s idea that you should work for your goals.

The people of Rosas would have learned gratitude, respect, and to work and strive for their goals alone.

Magnífico would have learned to take a step back and let his people try to achieve their goals alone. Let them succeed on their own, let them feel the sadness and pain of failure because that is part of the process and part of life. And don't carry everything on his shoulders.

Of course, he can still help, but in a different way depending on each case.

He is a wise king after all.

Asha and the rest of the people rise up and defeat the dark monster with their bright hearts and imprison it in the mirror, knowing that monster lies within Magnifico's heart.

Forced to hang him on a wall in the dungeon, no matter how much he struggles that he is now himself and no forbidden magic has possessed him, they no longer trust him.

King Magnifico's efforts to break free are futile, he is sent to the dungeon, Again...

A little prelude to my story.

Um... you mean.. the rings?

Uh, well... I didn't mean to spark any major speculation, but... *coughs* Let's just say that their bond is going to get stronger by the day.

As for the future... *whispers* let's say that the winds of fate are blowing in an interesting direction. But I'm not saying anything concrete just yet. You'll have to wait and see what the future holds!

Who knows, maybe fate's mind will change in a moment!

Magnifico briefly falters…

Asha: try something Y/N.

Y/N: oh great Magnifico! I never told you my wish

Magnifico: fine! what is it?!

Y/N: I wish to have my dad back

Magnifico’s heart breaks and with it, the dark magic leaves him…

Magnifico: Y-Y/N? Oh my pride and joy, I-I’m so sorry

The two embrace and just hold each other tight…

Asha breathes a sigh of relief, the darkness gone…

What inspired the name Henry for Magnifico, or was it simply taken from his own song?

Well... I initially chose the name 'Henry' for Magnifico because it suits his appearance.. and so yeah, I simply took it from his own song.

Later, I did some research and discovered that the name fits his character perfectly (because I even make a backstory for that completely secondary character who didn't say a single dialogue and was only mentioned once!) I kinda did horoscopes for him with the name of Henry and the name of his mother (in my story, Rosa), which revealed that his life would be marked by hardship, including the loss of his parents before him and so on.. (Yes, most of it was misery, but in the end it leads to real peace!)

This resonated with me, and I decided to stick with the name 'Henry' for him.

In fact, I often find that my random decisions lead to surprising and meaningful connections, and this is one example of that.
