I don't think by the moment Odysseus reaches Penelope he's "that" traumatized by the things he's done (you know the war, the infant-frisbeecide, the sacrificing his crew just to get home), because he has had 7 years of crying in Ogygia and I don't think he just cried for his family. He has kind of made peace with all of it at this point.
But you know what he also had to make peace with? "That deer in Circe's island sure tasted funny"

Re-reading the Odyssey and I swear Athena talks about Odysseus the exact same way tumblrinas talk about their blorbos.
