Barbie And Ken - Tumblr Posts
Lmao so at my school we had spirit days a while back, and one of them was Barbie. Everyone else was like “oh sweet I probably have something pink” but *my* first thought “my mom owns a fur coat”

My mojo dojo casa house era

Just drafted this shirt now going to convince my mom to make it for me bc I don’t know how to work the cricket machine 😔
Never thought I’d be simping over Ryan Gosling but here we are 🤷🏽♀️
Sam and Dean Winchester would have cried during the Barbie movie
“Do you ever think about dying?” 🎀💕✨
Like super excited for the Barbie movie however as a mom of a 12 yo I have seen Barbie: Life in the DreamHouse on Netflix and I swear swear SWEAR TG if Raquel isn't in it...
Barbie, Ken and the other ken

DCEU × Barbie

Margot Robbie as Barbie totally makes up for Mattel not making a Harley Quinn doll, I wanted one for years!
Relationship Goals Be Like...💔

Fun Fact: Ryan Gosling was in consideration for the role of the Joker in 2016's "Suicide Squad" before Jared Leto was casted. While I'm happy to see him & Margot Robbie as another (& FUNCTIONAL) iconic couple, how would you feel if Gosling actually took on the role as the Clown Prince of Crime?
Barbie and Ken In Action (Figuratively)
With the Barbie movie set for this summer, seems like an opportunity to consider how Barbie (Mattel 1959) was marketed as a doll and G.I. Joe (Hasbro 1964) was marketed as an action figure. Other competitors to Hasbro's G.I. Joe around that time used the term boy's doll, which fell out of use.
Marketing and collectibles aside, interesting to observe people's reactions when one uses the terms doll and action figure interchangeably and even more interesting when gender is brought into the picture. To me, they're toys and makes no difference who plays with what; toys are aids to a child's imagination and creativity and that type of play should be allowed to be free from adult hang-ups. If collectors and the IRS want to get into the weeds for valuation and import tax purposes they can have at it.
That being said, Ken (Mattel 1961) really is a doll. Literally. In more ways than one. Ryan Gosling do your thing.

At some point in the Barbie movie, I hope one of the villains steps on a tiny Barbie shoe because if you've ever had one of those clear plastic spikes spear your instep, the trauma is real.

It's Not Science, But What Is Kenistry?
Let's face it, for all the wonderful things about Ryan Gosling (and there are many), the character he is playing is still Ken and Ken without Barbie is well, what exactly?
For most children who play with Barbies, the real chemistry takes place between Barbie and Barbie and Barbie and...you get the picture. They go places, they do things, they are living large.
And Ken is the neutral substance in the equation. I'm no scientist, and what little I recall I'm sure I've just mangled completely, but Kenistry serves Barbie so that Barbie can act and react. Does Ken neutralize Barbie? In the real world, yes, neutralization is a thing (IIRC, human saliva and water are neutral substances) but this is Barbieland and in Barbieland, Kenistry exists so all the Barbies can go out and blow shit up and make things happen; all in whatever outfit serves the purpose. Or nude, if the case may be. All with a big "So cool" and "I'm coming with you" from Ken.
Do your thing Margot Robbie.
*If I messed up the chemistry, don't 'at' me too hard; it wasn't meant to be precise.
Nobody puts Greta Gerwig in a box.
Greta Gerwig do your thing.

Reblogging in light of the public screening; well…did the movie meet expectations? Enjoy it? I cannot wait to see it!

And Stuff. And Ken. You Don't Say...

Took me a minute, but Ryan Gosling's character, Holland March, (from The Nice Guys) telling his daughter,Holly, "and don't say and stuff" and him going on to play 'and Ken' in the Barbie movie is career serendipity at its peak.
If you haven't seen Gosling and Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys, it's worth a look. (Note: adult language, etc)
Hmmm, anyone else having X Files & Barbie (2023) crossover fiction run through their brain?

New fall trend absolutely needs to be males flash mobbing the Ken dance scene from coast to coast. Don’t fight, flash! Oh wait…not that kind of flash, I mean dance…really gotta think before I type…
Girl Power and Future Films: Poll
Without a doubt, the Barbie movie was a success but the movie was about so much more than a childhood toy. Thinking about the themes interwoven in the plot, it would be nice (IMO) if even more screenplays were optioned that take those ideas into consideration and expand upon them in upcoming female centered films. Quite a few talented women out there for various roles, whether paired together, solo, or in a large ensemble cast. Who would you like to see? I'm limited by the poll's constraints so answer in the tags if you don't see your picks listed because I know I left off a lot of great names of talented artists. I also focused on slightly younger artists, so if you're looking for women a little further along the road of life, feel free to add more names or suggest a second poll! Maybe I'll discover a new artist to watch!
A little over a decade ago, actor Ryan Gosling (appearing here as Luke Glanton from The Place Beyond the Pines, 2012) had few thoughts about one day playing a plastic blonde accessory to one of the world's most famous dolls, Barbie. Yet even then, he was faced with the Ken-ness of it all, staring into the fathoms of what it meant to forever be number two...
